Quint's Revenge 2 - Demo 1

Wait what?:
A fan game based around Quint, like the title implies. [Image: razz.png]
Long story short? I've been literally unable to work on anything else for quite some time, owing to PC failures and various real life shenanigans goings on, I've been unable to access to my files. I needed to do something in the mean time, so I refined one of the few things I had copies of, the Sprites INC engine, and started building this.

Has something happened to Revolution?:
As of a few days ago, I have access to Revolution's files again. Don't worry its safe. In the mean time? I'm releasing what work I've done to this game.

Why Quint? Again!?:
Lets be blunt, I feel I could do a better job than the original game, I've learned some things since and I think my recent work is a lot better. But the main reason? I think the gameplay style I came up with for the original game was fun as all get out, and wanted an excuse to bring it back.

How longs the demo?:
Three stages, intro stage and two robot masters, plus an unlockable thing.

What's the storyline to the game? There's no intro in the demo?:
Gameplay first, storyline third sort of deal. I have a rough plot in mind but for now here's the basics: Takes place in the future. Wily's up to no good. Upgraded Robot Masters and Mechaniloids stolen from the Robot Museum. Future Mega Man (Quint) has to go fight for everlasting peace. Gems of power. That about wraps it up.

Is that RushJet's music?:
Yes. I really like RushJet's music and thought his remixes would be the perfect fit to the game. RushJet agreed with me. I like Collin's music just fine too, but wanted a different take on the music this time round.

What's new to the game?:
Quint's abilities are still intact from the first game. New features are this:
* Slide has been reinstated.
* Charge shot has been reinstated.
* W-Tanks and M-Tanks have been put in.
* Sakugarne is now summon-able anywhere.

.. so is this becoming your primary project?:
In short, no. Revolution Remix does take priority, this is a fall back for times I'm unable to work on Revo, or when motivation issues hit me.

Hey my version of the game is all grey for some reason!:
For what-ever reason, your PC does not like the filter the game uses. Turn off the "NES Filter" in the options and this colour issue should be resolved.

RE: Quint's Revenge 2 - Demo 1
ACE, I've only beat the two RMs so far, but holy fuck. That whole thing, is a huge step up in difficulty from the first game. Intro Stage's still relatively simple, but the RM stages more than trump even the Wily Stages from the original in terms of difficulty. (The autoscrolling rising lava segment is a particular culprit.) I don't know WHY you did it like this, but keep going, you devious man.

I loved the first game, and now you made a sequel. Well then, I'll be having fun with this later.

God damn based on these reactions I'm definitely going to give this a go. Oh, and maybe do a blind recording playthrough? I'm going to try doing one and see how that turns out.

This is looking to be pretty great so far ACE, great work as always.

Ran into a few bugs so far though.

Not really anything game breaking on the first one here, but if you dash as the intro stage boss dies, quint will remain dashing until he teleports out.

This second one, a bit more game breaking, but when you respawn after the Fire Man miniboss, and go left, you'll re-enter the miniboss fight. Once defeated, you're left unable to scroll to either the left or right screen after.

RE: Quint's Revenge 2 - Demo 1
Alright, found some bugs:
1. If you are one step away from a boss door but you duck and then dash, the boss won't start. I got this with Gemini Man.
2.If you are sliding under 1 block space that you can only get through by sliding but get damaged, you'll get shunted off to the opposite side you're facing.
3. You can still shoot pellets and charge your shot while scrolling through a different screen vertically.
4.If you immediately go to the opposite way after you slide through a space you can only get through by sliding, you'll go through them just by walking.

Only one i've uncovered so far is the intro stage boss. After defeating him, his projectile from the fist remained on screen and I was able to take damage from it - Fixed

While I enjoyed the first game, this sequel is definitely a step up compared to that one. While I feel the difficulty may be a little on the tough side, it's nothing too major, and I love the polish you've put into it: for example, the alternate path in the Yoku blocks section was really interesting and shows how much thought was put into this game as a whole.
Great job as always! Big Grin

RE: Quint's Revenge 2 - Demo 1
I found two bugs, one minor and the other... not so minor.

The first is the death sound occasionally not playing when I die.

The second is that I cannot save.

This may be something wrong on my end since I also can't save in Rock Force, the first Quint's Revenge, or Unlimited, and it happened on my old computer too, so eh.

Stupid question, but you have unzipped the game, right? I had a similar report last time and that ended up fixing it. Either that or something is seriously wrong with your comp.

I use 7zip, but I did extract the game and it fixed the problem.

This made me feel so much better you have no idea.

I thought I was.

Anyway, this game is miles better than the first.

Looking forward to beating my head against this and Revolution Remix!

I saw the first demo, and I must say, I am looking forward to the final version!

But first, what gem names are represented by the colors in the character selection borders (besides Hyacinth and Sapphire)? I think Ruby, Emerald, Amethyst and Aquamarine are four of them, and maybe gold and silver for the other two. Or were they Citrine and Diamond? And more importantly, what other Robot Masters will be used (besides Gemini Man and Fire Man)?
