OK, I have stayed silent for a few pages because beyond being a MEGAlurker here, I don't know about this site as much as you all do. But to hear that some are giving up on Mega Man because of Crapcom trolling the fans seems a bit much to me. Don't get me wrong, I understand entirely. When the dummkopfs at Crapcom pulled the plug on MML3, I cried. LITERALLY CRIED. For an hour. I have been around Mega Man since it launched in December 1987, when I was 8, so believe me when I say Mega Man is a big part of me. But then I heard about the 100,000 strong movement, and decided to get involved. Will it work? Probably not, although they HAVE noticed. But throughout the petitions, Facebook groups, and the total remaining fanbase, Crapcom has assured us that there WILL be a Mega Man game forthcoming. Do I believe that? I have to. To think otherwise is to give up, and allow the one remaining piece of my childhood die, and I refuse to allow that to happen. I have an example to set for my 2 daughters, after all.

But now there is talk about shifting Sprites Inc away from Mega, and to me that just sucks. There just aren't that many Mega Man sites anymore that are not now solely focused onthe revival of MML3 and MMU. After the death of my other internet forum home, I decided to come here, time permitting, and now I hear the talk of shifting away from Mega Man as a central theme. Damn. Day late and a dollar short, eh?

Again, I have no true say here, only having lurked here for a while. But It occurs to me we need MORE Mega Man, not LESS, if we wanna save the Blue Guy.

After all, Legends never die, we grow LEGION!!!

Shifting away doesn't necessarily mean COMPLETELY. There'll always still be Megaman discussions and sprites.

It's a matter of interest we're talking about. Inc has been one of the oldest sites I've visited by far, and used it most of the time. It would be a damn shame now that I think about it.

Simply put: Don't COMPLETELY re-brand it, just keep it so that it will be an intrest in Megaman, but other things as well (example: Sonic the Hedgehog). While Crapcom has trolled the fans, sure, but I don't get hit as hard like I used to by trolls (in fact, I know a few good friends that be trollin'). Remember, I went with this shit with BOTH Sonic X-Treme's cancellation and Sonic 06's disaster, I should know this pain.

This is the link before the full announcement.

Give it a look.

I'll probably change the theme in a few days. It's a bit bland.

You can register. I'm currently making a list of new features and the like, followed by re-typing the forum rules.

And then where we go from here.

It'll be archived when I announce things on Sprites INC. You should still be able to access it, but not post.

Just thought I'd contribute to the "old man list" and make my post too. :P

I'll echo the fondness of Megaman sentiments just like everyone else has, and the nostalgia that comes with having spent my teenage years on these online forums and the general community. All great stuff that I agree with.

However, I think it's important to put Sprites Inc into that perspective. I think the height of its popularity was when sprite web comics were "the thing." More specifically (and some people might remember this place), when Bob and George was still around. That comic drived demand for Megaman sprites almost as the games did, in a way. Of course, during that time we were still getting Megaman games on a pretty regular basis. Lots of Megaman Battle Network, Megaman Zero, and a few Megaman X games.

The landscape of this particular niche (Megaman Sprites), has changed significantly.

If you want to see the forums act more like a community, then there has to be something for the community for form around. A web comic is an easy one. A game is another one. Just projects in general.

I recall that we've tried quite a few of these ideas over the years... regular contests, games, RPs... that PD section that's just plain gone now! What happened to that? :P

In a way, it wouldn't be a bad idea to think of some re-branding. "Sprites Inc." What can that name really encompass and mean? Sprites Incorporated? Why not host sprites, but also host everything sprites are used for? Host some user created games, host some comics. Might as well make use of the webspace.

Actually, having a gallery for sprite comics, fangames, and other projects on the main site (Or, alternatively, the overhauled Wiki-style PD section which has been proposed) sounds like a really good idea. I haven't seen the numbers, per se, but I get the impression that the main site is still considered to be a very valuable resource for sprites, so putting a section up for fan projects on the home page might help to really stir up some interest in MegaMan again.

I really think we should try to distance ourselves away from the Megaman fanbase, honestly.

I mean yeah, stay megaman to a degree, but it's not going to do ANYTHING for the community being around such a fanbase in this much disarray.

I think we should maybe aim towards something for something more suited for growth in spriting, sprite comics, game development, etc.
