Default Sprites Inc Contest #12: A Blast From The Past Out the Asst!

What's the sitches, bitches? I'm sorry about the late post. I fell asleep and didn't wake up until a few minutes ago.

This week we're going for a Nostalgic Comic Contest!

Here're the rules.
1: You have two weeks to think up, design, put together, and post a Nostalgic Comic.
2: The subject of your comic must be from before the year 2000, and after the year 1980.
3: It can be funny, serious, seriously funny, doesn't matter.
4: The comic must be between three and twelve panels long.
5: The comic must be in English. I will be counting off for spelling and grammar mistakes.
6: If you cover anything aside from a video game, you must be able to provide a link to either a wikipedia page about it, or a news article.

There you go. Those are the rules. Now here's Ollie Willams with the Blacu-Whether-Scorecast, Ollie.

"YOU GONNA LOSE!"

Thank you, Ollie.
  • Theme: Theme is nearly the exact same thing as it is for the sprite contests. Worth 100 points.
  • Language: This parametre is focusing on proper use of the English language, or the language chosen by the contest/submitter. At this point in time it will focus on English, as I'm not completely in tune with foreign languages. Worth 100 points.
  • Effects: This parametre focuses on effects and text boxes. The placement and usage of such. Worth 100 points.
  • Misc: If I feel anything else should add to your score, then this is where you'll see it. This operates very similarly to the Misc section for sprite contests. This is worth up to 100 points, and does not detract from your score.

So there you have it. Remember that this contest is ONLY two weeks long. That means that come 11:59PM CST (GMT -6) on the Sunday after the next I'm closing all further entries and only the most recent entries, update-wise, will be accepted. Any entries submitted after the indicated time will not be accepted. This is a hard rule that will not change, no matter the sob story you PM me.

I don't get it. Are we supposed to use characters originating from that time period? Just reference/parody something? Have a comic about a nostalgal trip to those times?
Any of the above?

You are to make a comic. The subject matter of the comic is to be nostalgic, that is to say from 1980 to 2000. It can be nearly anything from those 20 years. A video game, a famous band, perhaps a celebrity, a movie, Hell even a famous book.

It has to be mainstream enough that it either has a cult following, or was actually part of the mainstream.

Do we have to fit Megaman stuff into the comic?

No, it's just a nostalgic comic. That's all.

...
Honestly. That didn't quite answer my question.

Nostalgia comic is still too vague even if you are QUITE sure on what nostalgia is.

I'm asking in what context it should be nostalgic. Are we supposed to take a a bunch of charectors from a series from that time frame?

Have someone rant about the good olde days, like have someone remember Captian N or ghostbusters or Gargoyle's quest or Lufia II or something?

Both?

I'm not sure what you are looking for here. Just that it contains nostalgia in some form.

I tried to make this as open ended as I could, but I suppose I went a little too far.

To answer your question, NDrax. It's either, or, or both. So long as it contains nostalgia. Be it Gargoyles, the early Pokemon shows, mayhaps even Judge Dredd.

The subject itself is up to you, how you handle it it up to you. But it must be a comic, not a slide presentation of the nostalgia. I suggest reading some VG Cats and Penny Arcade to see how they handle some of the older games they cover.

I'd say yes cause it was too vague and open ended. Plus a horrible idea. So I'm locking this early.
