In case people are completely blind about Sprites INC - No signitures. There. Aren't. Any. On. The. Site.
I won't be accepting any sheets regardless of quality if you demand credit. They're sprite rips people, you have no right to demand credit for something Capcom made.

excuse me, but how do say that to a guy who's asking for credit for MMZ sprites and Sonic sprites and he's stubborn enough to say he's gonna sue you if you don't?

Well, for one thing they cant sue you since it's not their sprites if they ripped from a game. However if they are custom, or edits, or scratch in the style of, then credit is due.
Just tell them they dont own the sprites, and cant claim credit, or sue. Since they can't. |

You can't sue if there's no damages. No money lost = no damages. What would he sue for?? Furthermore, I think any judge would laugh this out of court. If it even got that far.
Anyways, at this point everyone knows how Sprites INC is run. The credit system that used to be in place was cumbersome and, really, .... it took longer to update THAT MONSTROSOTY than the site itself sometimes. If there's a new system ever in place I hope it's easier to update that that thing was. |

Inu, stop being a baby. Your thretening to sue/get the site shut down because he doesn't give credit to you? Wow. It's not even yours. Your just a pawn of Sprites Inc, doing it's bidding.

Wow. I mean really, wow. I have to be a voice of reason. I mean really... That's just sad.
First of all, there's absolutely nothing to sue for, even if some incredibly insane judge would take you seriously. Like Gauntlet said, no damages. Literally. You ripped Capcom and Sega's sprites. The only sueing that could go on is them sueing you for owning the ROMs without having bought the rights to it, if you don't own the games. ACE has done nothing at all. And even if it were a case where someone could sue, like Gauntlet said, no sane judge would let it in a courtroom. Does the word "mistrial" mean anything to you? No? That's probably because you were eating paste in 5th grade when they were teaching it to you. And again I say: They're Capcom and Sega's sprites. Capcom and Sega's. Not yours. You can't take credit for their work. That's like me going to the MMC (sorry ACE, but can't think of another widely known board at this hour), copying and pasting a sheet of custom sprites, and demanding credit. Either you're tempermental and young, or a complete idiot. Guess which one I think it is.

That ain't fair, my year 5 class never learnt anything about mistrials. =( I had to learn that stuff from L&O.
Anyway, you can claim credit for ripping the sprites, Ace gives due credit. but remove the tags, please. |

Metool...voice of reason, but denial is your location indeed. Read Inu's posts thoroughly please. >.<

He is asking us how to deal with assholes that are too stubborn to deal with, he he isn't talking about how he wants credit... (Unless I am missing something very important from somewhere else...and since when does someone want to put Sonic sprites on Sprites Inc?) Quote:
See how he is talking that *he* can't be sued? Not how he could easily sue ACE? Sorry for my reaction but I just couldn't watch this. >.< |

Sorry if I'm digging up a dead post. But since it's stickied, it must be an important topic. Now, I ripped one sheet that took me a good two weeks. It's from a game called Alien Soldier, and I worked hard on that sheet. Could I ask for credit for RIPPING them?

A rip's a rip. It's still a company's work, no matter how much effort is put into ripping it.
If someone was going to credit you for it, they will. Those that won't wouldn't listen to that the sheet says anyway. Thats just how it is. If you submit a sheet to a site other than Sprites INC, I say at least put up "ripped by *YOURNAMEHERE*" Don't demand credit, people are more likely than not, not going to. How-ever, take solace in the fact - there are people out there whom do.

Couldn't you just say
"Ripped by NAME, don't steal, or claim as your own" 'Cause that's what I always do. It's not asking for credit, it's just saying don't say it's yours, say you got it from SI, or wherever else. |

I usually have a tag on my site that says "credit where credit's due, folks!". If people wish to credit they can. It doesn't bug me if they don't. Plus I make a habit of tagging on my name on sheets I like to keep as "mine" on my site. I don't find much redirtribution of sprite sheets on the net, so it's unlikely people'll come and steal them out from under you and claim it as their own.
You know tho .... back was spriting was young and few people did it, they demanded credit for their rips. Very few really did full-motion game rips or even really knew how to rip at all. But once quite a few people started doing it crediting for just rips began to get redundant. I mean .... two people rip the same game. It happens. It's only natural to feel a bit possessive of rips you ripped, but asking for credit on use is a pain. Really, do you even want a bunch of people e-mailing you for permission? Nah. |

This is my first post.
I rip "some" graphics, BUT for educational purposes. (learning how sprites are formed, technique Etc..) It does take time but I don't see any reason to claim credit. Not many people give credit to the hard working original designers for thier work, yet thier is a ton of folks I have seen around the net claiming credit and getting it sometimes. Not to mention when most people play a game, how many of those actually sit there at the END of the game and watch the credits roll? Probably very few. Can you name a few? I believe that even the original designers have to mix and rip thier own graphics as well to fit thier games, so THEY too work even harder. Most people can tell if a sprite is ripped just by looking at the quality. I, personally, only know 2 or 3 very talented spriters, not including professionals. It's easy to spot original work. If it happens, noone can edit just one pixle and call it thier own, I've seen a few folks doing that, but i wont mention any names. My hat off to all those talented folks who don't get appriciated. I guess that's it. Noone should get credit for work they didn't do. Sure it may take a bit of work to RIP, that's understandable, but it's also fun. When I start making money off creating sprites and gfx, THEN I would ASK for credit, I'd never demand it. Chow |
