If I downloaded RPG Maker 2K3 (with english patch) off of a LEGAL download program that you pay for. Is it still illegal to use?

RM2K3 will never be legal, if you paid for it that means you got ripped off. Seeing as RM2K3 is a commercial product, basically some dude bought one, translated it and distributed it as freeware, then some dude took it and is selling it from his website, which means you are not paying the company that made it (Enterbrain) or the person that translated it, rather you are paying the greedy owner of the website :P.

You can get a legal version of RPG Maker XP off download.com and that's the only legit english version of RM.

That's not what I mean. I got it off of a P2P file sharing program that I PAID FOR. I didn't buy RPG Maker 2k3 itself. I bought the program that allowed me to download it. Besides if I did get it illegaly and made a game with it and distributed it, what can Enterbrain do?

Well, thousands of other people do it... not a lot really, just don't sell commercially.

EDIT: yes it's still illegal.

So pretty much the only way to geta legal one is to go to/order from Japan and buy it?

Well yes, and you would have to have damn good Japanese skills to understand it all and whatnot...

RMXP is gettable in english legally though, and that can be modded heavily, so you could make it like RM2K3.

RM2K, and RM2K3 were never released over here - just translated and illegally put out over the internet. RMXP is much better than RM2K3 - you can mod it to be exactly the same as RM2K3 if you like... Plus it has maaaany more features that make it much better. Trust me.

Yea, but from what I've seen it doesn't have that good of an item/weopon customizer program. That and I can't figure out how to use the coding program.

There are billions of tutorials, and you can mod the items thing, heck you can mod everything! I would link you to some tutorials but I lost all my bookmarks... sorry!
