If you're a Pokemon fan (geek) like me then you probaly heard that the newest edition of Pokemoin is Black and White. And the you have the old ones, Fire Red and Leaf Green. Anyway so don't fight on this thread. It can be any Pokemon game you like, remeber, or just want to egt info on it from others.
Enjoy!
>My face when someone calls fire red and leaf green old ones
Kid, Back in our days, we played the original pokemans. These pokemans were Red and Blue. Just Red, and Just blue. Not Water blue or Fire red. Leaf green and fire red are considerably new.
Also, Quote this if you agree that the first 151 and MAYBE the second wave of pokemon were the best. The rest all look like robots with spikes and stripes. I know I quote from a webcomic but it's TRUE. They DO.

As Lern said, Fire Red and Leaf Green are not old. Red, Blue and Green are the old ones, and maybe Pokemon Yellow.
The best generations of Pokemon were 1 and 2. 3... bleh. It introduced alot of new concepts but at this point I felt the designs were becoming far to much like Digimon.
And to quote the same comic as Lern:
"HOW LEGENDARY ARE YA IF EVERYONE IS?"
Every generation has introduced more legendaries then the last. I do not understand how they still have ideas, considering they've made God.
To correct your quote;
"HOW LEGENDARY ARE THEY IF EVERYONE ELSE HAS THEM TOO!"
Now to test this comic's theory.

I agree with Heavy and Metal, 1, 2, and 3 were the best.
Yeah, that comic was right, there are too many legendaries.

^ Arceus was merely the god of Sinnoh, no other region has him in their legends.
Each legendary, and I'm talking the actual legendary pokemon, not the ones that're on the same tier, is the product of a well written lore for the region. Back in Generation 1, RGBY, we had the three birds, Mewtwo, and the almost nonexistent Mew. That's it. No backstory, no explanation, nothing. They just were.
Fastforward to Genration IV with Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heart Gold, and Soul Silver. In these, except HG and SS, the legendaries were well written into the story of the game. They each were given a back story and explination as to why they existed in the world. The three Lake pokemon existed to keep the balance between Palkia and Dialga. Who inturn kept a balance to Giratina. THEN there's the side story of Regigigas who was kept in balance by the three gigas Pokemon from the previous generation who were now available in that world as well. Darkrai and Cressalia are opposite each other, and Arceus who is the god of Sinnoh.
Granted, much of this seems like the company is simply making shit up so they can sell more movies, but still.
Also, whether or not a pokemon is legendary doesn't mean there's only one in existance in our world. Hell Mew is probably more rare than anything for the sole fact that they stopped releasing her back in the 90s, in Japan. So just to clarify: Legendary does NOT equal real life rarity.
To add to the conversation some more, my personal favourite pokemon is Sandshrew. Sandshrew is merely 2' in height, and yet is amazing. It can curl up into a ball, use its claws to scratch the ever loving Hell outta something, and is just fucking cute.

You have no say in the matter.
Your second favorite is Zangoose.
Sorry, my mistake for Fire Red and all but I have a question. Black and White is going to be the newest the edition to the Pokemon series right? Well since more games these days are coming out for the DSi, I wonder if Black and White is coming out for DS too? Anybody know?

IT LOOKS LITTLE LIKE SCISOR!
Just because it's Red and has sharp claws does not make it one.
I do see a minor Kamen Rider influence, however... Could be my eyes.

Neggy, if it's out for the DSi, it's for the DS as well. There was NO cartridge change between the two. The only difference is the addition of cameras. And that was between the consoles.
And yeah, Phoenix, it does look like a Kamen Rider reject. But that's what we love about it, no? [/sarcasm]

Black is just plain awesome though, it's almost a little intimidating having to rely entirely on Pokemon I've never used before, that hasn't happened in a long time.

Don, due to the lack of official Arceus events, I still don't think it's been confirmed wether Arceus is the god of Sinnoh only or everywhere else. I think it's either Palkia or Dialga (depending on your game version) who created the Sinnoh region, but Arceus is the upper-class god.
While Mew has legendary status, I never really considered it legendary, as it's implied that there used to be more then 1, so I just kind of think of it more as a last of it's kind.
And alot of the fifth generation look so gosh dern retarded. And so many god damn legends... LEGENDS, LEGENDS EVERYWHERE.
On a side note, they finally made a pure flying type Pokemon, and in the process created a recolour trio. Yaaay.

I have Diamond and it says Arceus: " Described in mythology as the Pokemon that shaped the Universe with its 1,000 arms" And it is known as the alpha Pokemon so I'm guessing it is like the god of Sinnoh. Also we are forgetting about Mespsirit, Uxie, and Azelf. Don't they keep the world in balance or something?
NG, I always though Arceus was the supreme god and all the other legendaries are lesser gods.
Don Kalypso
20-02-11, 08:50
The Lake Trio, of Mesprit, Uxie, and Azelf, are in the world of Sinnoh to keep Dialga and Palkia in balance. Dialga, Palkia, and Giritina are the aspects of the universe. Space, Time, and Anti-Reality.
Arceus is ABOVE the Universe Trio, it is the god of Sinnoh, and possibly the entire Pokemon universe. Whether it created the Universe Trio, or existed alongside them isn't known, but it is credited as the creator of reality. This is shown by the different elemental plates it can hold to change its element.
Mew is seen as the precursor Pokemon. The mother of all pokemon. Whether or not there's more than one, that's never explored, but we do know she was cloned, yes Mew is a girl, and that resulted in Mewtwo.
In Generation II, because Johto and Kanto are RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER, Lugia and Ho-oh play special roles in Kanto's mythos. Lugia is a balancer between the three elemenetal birds, Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos. This was explored in one of the Pokemon Movies. Ho-oh is seen as a pokemon of birth, rebirth, and of journey. In the Anime Ash sees a Ho-oh on his first day out as a trainer, this is explored and explained MULTIPLE TIMES in the series. At the end of the first movie Ash tells Misty and Brock that on his first day out he saw a legendary pokemon, but didn't know what it was. When the camera looks at it, it's OBVIOUSLY a Ho-oh.
Addendum: The explination behind Mew's motherhood of all pokemon in game is by her being able to learn ANY move. Any HM, any TM, ANYTHING. No matter the element or use. She's a psychic pokemon that is capable of learning any move. Now THAT is kickin'. Especially if you consider the fact that back in Gen I psychic was only weak to psychic.

Well a few of the legendaries aren't really gods. The three beasts were made by Ho-Oh and don't really control anything, the four Regis were created by man (so was MewTwo), Mew is simply the last of it's species and the few Deoxys that pop up are just members of an alien species.
I'm not sure about the fifth generation legends, but in my opinion the mythology and design of the main legendary trio is pretty cool.
Oh, also Don, MewTwo is only a clone in the anime reality. In the games they used some super advanced science on a pregnant Mew to splice the genes of her baby, causing her to give birth to MewTwo.
Don Kalypso
20-02-11, 09:02
Heavy, I'm gonna hit you. Stop getting your legends wrong. The Gigas were made by Regigigas. Regigigas was then sealed away by the people who worshiped it. Its power was split between the three it created. SO, if you get all three Gigas together, you can awaken Regigigas. Hell, this actually happens in the anime series.
"In the games, Mewtwo is revealed to have been cloned from Mew in the journals in the Pokémon Mansion. Unlike most Pokémon, however, Mew gave live birth to Mewtwo, rather than laying an egg and Mewtwo hatching from it. Mewtwo was too powerful, however, and it escapes from the Pokémon Mansion, destroying it in the process. Mewtwo then makes its home in Cerulean Cave, where all kinds of powerful Pokémon live." ~Bulbapedia (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Legendary_Pok%C3%A9mon)

Ahh crap, forgot MewTwo was a clone who was birthed. And the Regi mythology changed since I last checked. I'm pretty sure it was originally said humans made the Regi's (one in the ice age, one in the iron age, one in the stone age) but then feared them and sealed them away. They must have changed it when they created Regigigas...
And please don't hit me, I got my other facts right (I think).
If you have Pokemon D/P like me Regigigas is kept in the Snow Temple in SnowPoint City. You must find the other 3 Regis, Rock, Steel, and Ice. Also speaking of legendaries, what was the point of brother and sister Pokemon Latias and Latios?

Latios and Latias are the Eon Duo. They're a minor legend in Hoenn. Unfortunately there's no specific legend associated with them.
you just realized that ditto is the failed clone of mew, hence why it knows transform(the only other pokemon capable of this being mew), it is most commonly found in the cinnabar mansion, and also why its regular and shiny colors emulate mew's.
Don Kalypso
21-02-11, 04:44
I hope you understand how stupid you just sounded, Loki.
Similar colour palettes and a single shared ability only help prove that Mew is the Mother Pokemon. Since Ditto is the variation that kept the shape-shifting ability.
Ditto is not legendary, it is not a clone. There are TONS of Ditto encountered in the games and anime. The similar colours are due to the limited colour selections back in Generation 1.
If that was a joke, it was lost on me.
Ah, but remember! Generation 1 HAD NO COLORS, and therefor, no COLOR RESTRICTIONS!

Don Kalypso
21-02-11, 05:25
The Generation 1 games did in fact have colour to them. When played on a Gameboy Colour each game took on a tint of its cartridge colour. Pokemon Blue had a blue tint, Pokemon Red had a red tint, and Pokemon Yellow had a yellow tint.
Much of the colour data is there, but due to hardware constraints on the older Gameboy machines, the games appeared black and white unless played on newer handhelds.

Glitch? That's no glitch. All games could have their colors swapped between 4 different colors upon start up. ALL of them.
Also, Don, then if the color restrictions had it recolored, why not make it a different color in the anime?
it is most commonly found in the cinnabar mansion
I've NEVER seen a ditto in there.
Heck, until I looked it up to make sure I wasn't crazy, I didn't even know it COULD be there. (and it can't in the originals)
Honestly if they are there, its probably due to its ability to breed with everything, since you know, Mewtwo.
Ditto is mewtwo's dad maybe.
Mewtwo was cloned directly off of Mew. No birth given. Ditto is, according to the theory I henceforth support, a theoretical descandant or ascendant of mew.

Ditto is just the creation of what happened when Prof. Oak tried to make Jell-o. Somehow he gave it a soul and his great works of science went unnoticed because Ditto were made. The reason they are not legendary is because they reproduce through Mitosis.

No, you used mitosis correctly. Meiosis is how all the OTHERS make the cells they need to reproduce. Also, how do the Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee species survive in the wild? Chansey and Kangaskhan could be explained(parthenogenesis) but not hitmonchan or hitmonlee.

Wrong. Mewtwo is a clone of Mew, yes, but she did give birth to him. This was made very clear in the games. Mew gave birth. She is the ONLY pokemon on record to have given birth. All others lay eggs.
Ditto, and all known living pokemon unless otherwise stated, the descendents of Mew. Mew DID NOT create the other pokemon, she is merely their ancestor.
Arceus made the universe. He then made aspects of different things to keep the universe in balance. Dialga, Palkia, and Giritina keep the forces of the universe itself at bay. Space, Time, and anti-reality. He then made the aspects of the spirit, Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf. That's all we know he specifically made, although we can conjecture that he made the other legends as well. Going so far as to made redundancies for different aspects. Celebi, for example, is an aspect of time.
Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan are both evolutions. Tyrogue (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Tyrogue_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29) have been seen being born from eggs, so we can assume that the Hitmons do a similar thing to Kangaskan, since Kanga is a female species.

Oh, and last time I knew Don, Giratina was the embodiment of Dimensions not "Anti-Reality" cause it's been said that he can travel between those areas not of Time and Space(which is the other two). So yea... Dimensions. Not Anti-Reality. Cause no matter of you look at it the other dimensions are real. Anti-reality would mean they don't exist when in fact they do, just normal beings can't traverse them.
Don Kalypso
22-02-11, 01:10
I stand corrected then. But honestly when you say "Dimensions" I think of three dimensional space. Which is what's confusing me. I'm doing most of this from memory.
Girantina lives in a reverse world of ours. It is said to appear in acient cemetaries.
I just had a great mental image.
While playing, I was raising a Poliwag, because Poliwag is the shit. Well, fate pitted it against a Pidgy. This pidgy was like, level 3 compared to my level 20 Poliwag so I was guaranteed a OHKO. I used body slam. Then it hit me. Poliwag jumping into the sky, doing a slow flip as he is hidden due to the sunlight. From there, the black outline of him falls down. The Pidgy, then is crushed and feathers fly out all around the Poliwag that is now face down in the ground.I love it.

Eevee is supposedly rare because its genetic code is unstable. Thus, the slightest stimulus from its environment could trigger evolution, such as the radiation from an evolution stone, exposure to regular sunlight or shadow, or just being in an environment where evolution would be necessary for it to survive.:mega-1up:

Parthenogenesis? that only occurs in females. I don't see that happening with pokemon whose species are all male. There are no female tyrogue or any of he "hitmons". In order to even get a tyrogue under normal circumstances, you would have to breed one of the aforementioned "hitmons" with Ditto.

Despite the fact that you can only ever really get one Eevee in each game, Eevee isn't as rare as it looks. It's seen numerous times in the anime, as are its evolutions.
Hell, there's even a family in the original season, when Ash was back in Kanto, that had an Eevee for each son, and the older brothers were trying to get their younger brother to evolve his Eevee into one of their evolutions of it. Each brother had a different Eeveelution.
Heatnix, don't double post. There's a handy little edit button.
Anyway, I'd love to hear your explanation of how the Hitmons continue to reproduce. is it possible they're asexual? Could it be that they reproduce via budding? Or perhaps, just perhaps, the men really do lay the eggs and rear the children? This type of behaviour has been seen in seahorses and penguins combined. So, if we take the Parthenogenesis, combine it with a seahorse and a penguin. We get the Hitmons. Because let's be honest here. Using Ditto to reproduce is a trick we use in the games to get copes of otherwise hard to obtain pokemon. I don't recall there ever being a case of this being done in the anime.
If you didn't know, Hitmons refers to Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, and Hitmontop.

Vile, it's been explained that most Pokemon are passive in nature, with many of them living in peace with humans for nearly the entire human history. In the Celebi movie we go back in time, granted only about 40 years, and we see that the most dangerous thing to Pokemon is dangerous humans.
Most of the recorded cases of a Pokemon attacking a human had to do with the Pokemon protecting its young, or the humans were trespassing on its home.
First, Male penguins merely care for the eggs, they don't give birth to them at all.
Male seahorses are a little different, its the females that make the egg but give them to the males to put in a special pouch they have, and then live birth the eggs from there like a living incubator. I suppose these could just be technicalities in this discussion, but they needed to be said.
Technicallities aside:
Has anyone actually seen a wild hitmon? Like in the grass? If so, disregard this little theory:
Since the way I get a hitmon is by being given it, rather catching it, it stands to reason they are found in a place you can't access, for what ever reason. And since the poke professors can't get some strangely talented young trainer to do the leg work for them in those areas (being inaccessible through the means of a 10 yr trainer with mad skills and all) there could be a female version there, or something in the enviroment that causes them to temporarly or perminately gender-swap. I think some amphibians are able to do that in RL, if a certain dinosaur movie is accurate in that regard.
I'd also bring up the fact pokemon are sorted into mating groups and are able to breed with other types within their egg group + ditto, but I think thats an irrelavent fact in this case.

Sorry about the double post. anyway, pokemon isn't really famous for following the laws of nature. The smallest pokemon, combee, is eight inches tall according to the pokedex. I don't think there is a real bee species that even comes close to half that size. Also, the males of the seahorse and penguin care for the eggs, but they don't lay them. That task, as always, is left to the females. Maybe there are female Hitmons, but no-one has successfully seen one or bred them in captivity. There's just so much that the programmers were either unable or too lazy to reconcile that they will just have to remain mysteries. such as why Ditto can breed with genderless pokemon. or how genderless or single-gender species can survive and multiply. and why Team Rocket decided to equip their soldiers with the pokemon equivalents of glass hammers.Oh, and Draxian, you can find wild Tyrogues with the pokeradar, and the gender-benders you may be thinking of are oysters.:mega-derp:

What's with all the hate toward the Fifth Generation lineup, here? Now, this may be partly due to the fact that they have greatly expanded on the Dragon Type, but I thought many of the new Pokemon in Black and White were quite innovative.
Confagrigus, Bisharp, Hydreigon, Carracosta, Archeops, Escavalier, Ferrothorn, Elektross, Chandelure, Haxorus, Braviary... There are some real jewels in here, in my opinion. Zekrom and Reshiram both seem like pretty cool Legendaries, too. Overall, the Pokemon for Black and White seem to be far more creative than those from Diamond/Pearl/Platinum... Though even I can't bring myself to defend the starters. D:
For the record, my favorite Generations are the First, the Third, and the Fifth. Silver, Gold, and Crystal were obviously awesome games, considering the fact that they actually tied in directly with the previous generation - to the point of letting you actually play through two regions - , but for some reason, great as those games are, the Pokemon roster just doesn't do it for me.

DZ has a point about B&W having innovative combinations. We actually get a Fire/Ghost and an Electric/Bug.
There are some inventive pokemon in B&W, but what I think most people find jarring about it is that it basically states that NONE of the previous generation pokemon are in Unova. While at first this seems to bitchslap the other generation's jewels, this is actually nice and new. Rather than expanding on the previous generation or relying on staple pokemon B&W had to make an all new lineup, and I feel they did well. This prevents people from relying on their staple pokemon.
I still feel that Ghost and Electric don't get enough love. There's very little variation and combination with Electric, and Ghost falls to the fact that it gets very little love.
DZ, have you taken a deeper look at Oshwatt's line? I love the samurai motif they have going on in it. But despite how kickass Oshwatt's line is it can't compete with Cyndaquil.
I freakin love that Tarantula! I've always loved bug types, and it seems they all kinda, well suck. But now, I feel I can make an awesome team with the new ones.
Fire moth guy
Venomoth
Butterfree

Those all just become rape with the new move butterfly dance.
I think my new team will be
Fire Moth

Scizor

Electric Tarantula
good variation, and its all bugs :D Still gonna get my ass handed to me though. I feel it.

I disagree with the starters honestly. I think Tepig(horrible name, but that's why I'm renaming him Keroswine :D) is awesome. as well as Snivy. I mean, yea the names all mostly suck for them but the designs look good. I mean hell, this is the first Fire Type Starter I'm gonna actually go with since Charmander.

Starter Pokemon usually suck at first but once they evolve and such they become pretty fucking awsome. Although some never get better, meaning Bulbasaur. Maybe I don't like it because grass type Pokemon to me are so weak. That's just my opinion.

01-03-11, 12:10
It could be because both are squat pigs.
One thing I've noticed with Gen 5 is that they all borrow from mythology more then previous generations.
Granted Chimchar's line was a direct ripoff of Son Wukong, but Emboar's swirls remind me of him.
I was somewhat right. Yes, Chimchar's line is based on Son Wukong, but Tepig's line is more based on Zhu Bajie, a pig demon from the Journey to the West.
I'm getting B&W on March 24 for my birthday! I cn't wait and I thing I'll go with Tepig. I've never useda fire type and yes Jace it is cute. :D

Famitsu gave it a perfect 40/40, making it the only Pokemon game to get a perfect score.
So I guess nothing's wrong with it.
pffffffffft at new gen pokemans. I'll call it flawless once I play it.
Black and White's pretty good and essentially comes off as a completely polished and well rounded Pokemon game. My two nitpicks are:
1. Pokemon don't follow you outside the Pokeball (just a minor nitpick)
2. Random battles seem way two frequent (on average every 2-3 steps).
But again, nothing to stop anyone from enjoying the game.
Famitsu gave it a perfect 40/40, making it the only Pokemon game to get a perfect score.
So I guess nothing's wrong with it.
Famitsu tends to give scores based on payment/hype, not on game quality. Which is more or less why Demon's Souls got a low score.
I got it. This shit is hard man! Just trying to grind in an area of everything about my level, then a level 17 Sawk comes up and just rapes me. Well, it was a two on two wild battle. Point stands though. Although, I was going somewhere I shouldn't have been. >_>
It is rather fun though, and I do love the wild double battles. I've also gotten super lucky. Seems everyone I catch, its nature makes it lower the attack it doesn't use, and higher something else. :D

I have been trying to assemble competitive teams for each type. not easy.
So far, for steel:
Escavalier, Bisharp, Metagross, Lucario, Magnezone, and Steelix.
sound like a good team?
ANything wiht Bisharp is awesome. I love him, I think he topped on as my favorite Steel type.
One thing I think you should consider, have Magnezone learn Magnet Lift. That way for some rounds your steel types are not weak to earth. (mostly magnazone as he's x4)
Im working on a bug team, as we are doing gyms in my area and I was chosen for the bug gym.
Genesect, Forretress, Scizor, Heracross, Ninjask, Volcrona
If I can't use Genesect, then I would use Vespiquen.
my ideas are as fallowed
Forrtress: Sturdy ability
Stealth Rock
Toxic Spikes
Explosion
Rapid Spin
Lay down traps, remove any on me, explode when near death.
Genesect: Download
Ice Beam
Flame Thrower
Flash Cannon
Bug buzz / Energy Ball
He would be a special sweeper for me. With his wide range of special element attacks, mainly Ice Beam for dragons, I'd use him to take out what I normally could not
Scizor: Technician
Bullet Punch
Bug Bite
Swords Dance
Wing attack
With him, all attacks of base 60 get modified, so I need to abuse that. Using Bullet punch and bug bite, they get the 1.5 special so they go up to 90, then they get STAB (same type attack bonus) Wing attack is in there for an air attack. Verity and such
Herecross: Guts
I have two move pools for him
MegaHorn
Focus Punch
Stone Edge
EarthQuake
Or
Megahorn
Focus Punch / close combat
Rest
Sleep talk
Both sets require Guts as his Ability. With the first one, having him hold the poison orb gives him a status problem, activating guts. From there, I have a movepool of verity for his strongest moves. It should be fairly self said.
The second one, his to attack until I need to use rest. Rest, giving me a status problem and healing me, then use sleep talk to attack with the 1.5 bonus with two STAB attacks.
Ninjask: Speed up Ability
Substitute
Swords Dance
Baton Pass
X-scissor
Start off using substitute, to have a wall for me. Every turn he gets a speed boost. During the Substitute, abuse Swords dance. Before Substitute is gone, baton pass to a physical attacker so they get the speed and attack boosts. X-scissor there in case he needs to attack.
Volcrona: FLame body
Quiver Dance
Bug Buzz
Substitute
Flame Thrower
The idea is to keep him behind the substitute and quiver dance to up his speed, sp attack and sp defense, then unload with Flame Thrower and Bug Buzz. Overheat might work better than flame thrower
Yeah, there was Omanyte, he is an octopus right? Squid? Ammonite?
Escavalier!
I have him and other one, and Haxorus LV 60, at the Pokemans League.
Boom.
I don't even see him as a squid. He's a snail. Even his evolution has only 2 tentacles, but all the rest of them in both forms/phases/evolutions appear to be legs.

I'm thinking of replacing Steelix with Skarmory(to have at least one quick striker, plus it's immune to ground type moves.) Also, what does the move Telekinesis do? My opponents have used it, but it doesn't seem to affect the battle at all.
Gives the target flight, but reduces evasion.
For your Steelix, I say do it. Steelix can handle any physical attack without fail, but a special attack and he is outta-there. Skarmory is awesome too, a perfect wall if raised in HGSS first. Stealth Rock, Drill Peck, Roost, and a fourth move, I usually go with Toxic Spikes or Toxic.

I hadn't thought of that:mega-derp: :mega-derp: :mega-derp: I fail.
Just to address a two things:
Bisharp is indeed awesome, but x4 fighting weakness, which is a fairly common type, and x2 fire weakness leave him with a lot of flaws. Plus, there's Scizor, so yeah.
Incidentally, Skarmory's pretty useless if you're using him for speed, because steel types in general are slow. He's a really good physical wall, but he's not really any better at blocking Special attacks than Steelix would be.
Scizor is weak to fire x4, and I personally find him to be just okay. Scyther with an evolve stone just makes him a bit better, or more suited for a sweeper. Scizor to me is just a small attacker with a bit of wall. I like Bisharp because he has great attack, and is a duel type that I have not seen before. Both Steel and Dark can come in handy for me. Just my preference. Im still growing to competitive play.
Personally, I just like Skarmory, and i just use him as a set up. I find him to be a bit better that Forrtress just because he's not 4 times weak to fire.
IAmBlazeHeatnix
24-03-11, 20:54
Fighting type weakness can easily be fixed(assuming Bisharp can learn Aerial Ace) and the Fire type weakness can be countered with an Occa Berry or a NeverMeltIce. Ground type can be fixed with a Shuca Berry or a Balloon.
Scizor, even with an x4 Fire weakness can just outperform Bisharp in the roles you'd give him. If you consider Scizor to be a small attacker then Bisharp can't even qualify for the role. There's nothing "little" about 400 Atk + Technician + STAB + Bullet Punch + Priority move. That's not counting a Sword Dance or items like Life Orb. =p
Incidentally, Bisharp learning moves to counter his weaknesses doesn't really work as he's pretty slow and would get hit before being able to set up anything. Berries also aren't very good as counter items because after they've been used up how do you intend to continue dealing with that Pokemon?
MonoEyeGuy
24-03-11, 22:45
I think if used strategically, a Ferrothorn is practically unstoppable.
Bisharp is faster than Scizzor. I personally like BIsharp. I've yet to have issues with him.
And trust me, I know the combo of death with Scizzor and Technician. I use it, but I tend to use Scyther more.
IAmBlazeHeatnix
25-03-11, 20:38
I think if used strategically, a Ferrothorn is practically unstoppable.
Not so. X4 Fire weakness, X2 Fighting weakness, and low speed. Ferrothorn's still good for stuff like Bide because it can get pretty high HP and Defense stats. If you're looking for a flawless type combo, Spiritomb or Sableye is the way to go.

18-04-11, 00:55
EDIT: Can someone please explain to me what stuff like "glass cannon" and "special sweeper" mean?A Glass Cannon is a term in game balance where a member of a team focuses so completely on dealing damage that it ends up with no defense whatsoever and needs to be supported when it's threatened. In Pokemon, glass cannons have a high attack stat and low defensive stats. They also either need to have a high Speed stat or a good increased priority move (or both), and it helps if they're baton passed a buff or two so they can start sweeping without being easily countered.
A Special Sweeper is purely a Poke'mon term. It's when an offensive Poke'mon with a high Special Attack stat is built and set up to One-Hit KO (OHKO) the enemy team one at a time without them having the chance to react (which is what it means to sweep someone). They can be countered by Poke'mon with high Special Defense, which are known as Special Tanks. A Tank is a balance term for a member of a team is built to withstand attacks rather than dish out damage.
There are a lot of general terms for roles like these in competitive gameplay of all types. Poke'mon has a few unique terms of its own, but they're not very difficult to learn once you've got the idea.
Also Heatnix, While Volcrona is awesome as Dustman, I find Galvantula to be better. The fact that Thunder now has a 91% accurecy due to his compound eyes makes him awesome, let alone the new move Volt Switch. Mine though, uses a choice scarf and is rigged to special sweep with
Thunder

Yeah, Galvantula is a really interesting pokemon. The type matchup is really interesting, Bug and Electric, it's got good stats... but to me, it goes a bit unoticed to me. Nothing is bad, just it's not really alluring.
Speaking of Bug-types, ever noticed how many Bug/Flying type combinations there are?
I can only think of one (never played Black or white mind you):
Scyther.
ButterFree
Beautifly
Yamma
Lydian and Ladiba
Masquerain
Ninjask
Mothim
Vespaqueen
Yanmega (had to double check that one, I thought he was Rock Bug)
Yeah, alot. And Rock beats the crap out of them all.
I really am shocked they have not made a Bug/Dragon. It could be, you know, a DRAGONFLY. And a bug Water would be cool.

There is a Bug-Water, actually.
Surskit! (http://pokedream.com/pokedex/images/sugimori/283.jpg?1306803310)
Unfortunately, it has crap stats.... and even though it has an evolution... it becomes Masquerain... who's Bug-Flying.

Well right now I just got to Nimbasa City, so I don't have a Joltik yet.
Hey guys If any body wants it I put up a level 2 Arceus on wifi (he's semi legit) and I want an Eevee for it if anybodies looking. I will put up my friend code once I find it. (I'm playing Platinum) Umm... also, I don't remember how to find it. (FACEPALM)

God I hate when people spew that real fan shit. As if knowing the Japanese names for Pokemon makes you more of a fan than others.
Sorry its just that when i get addicted to something I need to know everything.

That is perfectly okay, trust me I do that way too much with things that I get obsessed with; but what you said was not okay. It was a 'holier than thou' statement about pokemon. You can be just as much a fan as someone else even if you don't know every little detail about something.
In addition acting that way tends to go hand in hand with ignornance. Can you name all the pokemon by their chinese name? Just how many shadow pokemon are there? What is MissingNo.?
Are you not a true fan if you can't answer all of these?
MissingNo is a glitch from red/blue/green that happens after you talk to that guy that teaches you to catch a pokemon then you surf up and down at the shore of.... Cinabar Island after catching it the sprites and text screw up and the game may crash.

People actually spent a bunch of time researching the effects of missingno
Actually I did the glitch myself.

...so did I. I'm just saying that there's more to missingno than just that.

Did you know that it also has a Japanese name? Ketsuban.
It has five different forms, 4 in R/B/G and 1 exclusive to Pokemon Yellow that is far more dangerous to mess with.
The four in R/B/G appear as a backward 'L' shaped block, a skeleton Aerodactyl, a skeleton Kabutops, and a ghost from Lavender Town.
In Yellow it looks like a huge broken-up box.
MissingNo. contrary to popular belief (excluding the Yellow one) will not harm your game aside from a messed up Hall of Fame and some messed up graphics. That would be 'M, who resembles MissingNo.'s glitch form.
The reason why there is a pause when encountering MissingNo. is because the game is saving the Hall of Fame which causes the battle to have to wait until this data is saved,
The reason the glitch occurs in the first place is because the strip of land next to Cinnabar Island has blank references to data. When you talk to the Old Man your name is temporarilly saved, the blank data then uses your name to determine what pokemon are supposed to appear there resulting in pokemon that go outside the intended range (151).
MissingNo. is fairly complex and very interesting.
My huge glitch-fan-gasm aside; you missed the point completely and only repeated your folly.
You ignored that what I was saying was that you have no right to act as though you are a better fan than someone else; especially for something as ridiculous as just knowing the Japanese names for Pokemon. My questions were intended to point out that there is a lot of information that you still probably don't know yet. Does not knowing the Chinese and Korean name of each pokemon make you any less of a fan?
If not then why does people not knowing the Japanese name of each pokemon make them any less of a fan?
does anyone here have Pokemon Black that they'd be willing to trade over the WiFi with me? I need that stupid Vullaby that's not available in White. I have a Rufflet to exchange or even a Zorua which seem to be very difficult to find. I have a lot that i'd be willing to discuss trading over as well, just looking for some specifics like Eevee.
I haven't played Pokemon since the original Gold/Silver came out. Just picked up White mostly due to the free Mewtwo that was being distributed. I think the game has vastly improved and I love the concept of the WiFi trading capability. The whole "catch them all" concept is still alive and strong
