Whether it be power/black/death/tech/thrash/progressive/stoner/ sludgecore/goregrind/grindcore/noisecore/whatever, any other metal fans?

And before I get labelled the forum metalhead, while I listen to more metal than anything else, for an example of how ranged my "taste" is- I listen to Johnny Cash, Hyatari, Lord Shinigami, Anaal Nathrakh, Mozart, Explosions In The Sky, Sonic Youth, Apocalyptica, ANAL CUNT, Pig Destroyer, Boards of Canada, Mogwai, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Gary Numan, Nirvana, Mike Oldfield, Motorhead The Ramones, and just about anything else out there with at least a shred of artistic merit/originality/entertaining factors.

GG gains a +50 in "ROFL, I HAVE MOR VARIED TAIST DAN U BIZNATCH!"

Anyway- Any takers?
Any Devin Townsend fans? :D

I can like it, so long as one of the lyrics isn't "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRGH!" To me, screaming in songs is just the band's way of saying that they're way too stupid to come up with a lyric at this particular point, so they''ll just emote in a very over-the-top-way.

Wrong in every single way.

Mikael Akerfeldt screams his bollocks off [as well as singing mournfully/melodically] and he's a lyrical/musical fucking genius.

There are lyrics that are meant to be yelled. Take Slayer. You couldn't get someone like Pavarotti to go "GOD HATES US ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!" :p

I listen to some metal. I've listened to Pink Floyd for a while. Currently, I'm exposing myself more to metal.

I have too much stuff to reccomend, so I'll simply start with some essentials that should be easy to get into

Slayer: Seasons In The Abyss
Celtic Frost: To Mega Therion
Pantera: Vulgar Display Of Power
Black Sabbath: Paranoid
Black Sabbath: Master Of Reality

And, if you can overlook the harsh vocals,
Opeth: Orchid
Opeth: Morningrise
Death: The Sound Of Perseverance
Death: Leprosy

Or, if you want to go STRAIGHT for the heaviest of the heavy, YOB, Thee Plague Of Gentlemen are two seriously heavy bands.

And, there is always ANY Drone band.
< Currently listening to Hyatari like there will not be a tomorrow.

Would say i'm a funk, groove, soul and jazzman, but i'm not sure that's always the case. So what stuff do i like.

Slayer: A few songs
Pantera: A few of their well known songs like mouth of war, Rise, Suicide note part 2.
AC\DC: Mainly big gun.
Metallica: No remorse, Seek and destroy. Haven't looked into any of the mention bands much but i hear Metallica's gone down hill. That's your cue GG_Hendrix
Mind you the formentioned bands influenced the soundtrack to the original doom soundtrack.
Bit of Testament, Some of the Downward Spiral by NIN, Korn (before their album Issues, they were at least average before, now their shit), two or three Marilyn Manson tracks. Bit of Ofeastia, bit of Str8jackit, bit of Katscan, bit of Spineshank, Chris Vrenna's doom 3 track, any decent track i can get my hands on really. Though the recent bands i've been listening to a lot is Iron Maiden, Rammstein and Moderatto.

Usually don't like slipknot-esque bellowing-down-the-mike-singing; often spoils the music that often isn't as fucked up as the vocals. For me it's like "Hey this is some good guitaring and the drums aren't bad either." then Corey Taylor opens his mouth and i loose interest (cept for Tattered and torn, went hand in hand there).

Metallica's first album, Kill Em All- Average
Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, ...And Justice For All - FUCKING GENIUS, GO GET THEM NOW.
The Black Album- Average
Load- Below average
Re-Load- Below average
St. Anger- What the fuck is this shit?!

hmm.... I don't remember saying that, but clearly the Quote Bar cannot lie!!!

Anyway, I never meant that either. A lot of bands that scream for some God-forsaken reason have good lyrics. All I was saying was that they weren't smart enough to think of a good lyric to put in for the 5-10 seconds that they're screaming for no reason at all other than to convey emotion.

EDIT: And I'm also more of an XD or a ROTFL kind of guy, to be honest.

Just popping in a random question for GG_Hendrix (though any metal head can answer this one). You like Gwar and stuff. Have you heard of a band called the Berzerker?

GG Hendrix

I love The Berzerker, even though they dont wear hillariously poor masks anymore :D

Their drummer is tremendously overrated, though he IS faster than a machine.

I've yet to pick up "World Of Lies" unfortunately, but I doubt it'll top Dissimulate

Any album that opens with the line "I have often thought to myself why some people dont eat flesh" is a certifiable winner :p

And I worship GWAR.

They have the awesome image
They have an AWESOME stageshow
They have funny songs
And they're good musicians

Go and see GWAR when they come over this year, you WILL NOT regret it.
Even if you dont like metal, you should see them just for the show. There's that much fake blood and gore and monsters, even if you're a doorman you're gonna leave looking like you killed something.
