Whilst it is a generally accepted fact that the recent seasons have crashed and burned (but might be getting better), it doesn't stop me from accepting the Simpsons as my 6th favourite cartoon of all time, so i felt like starting a thread for discussion of it. How generic of me. Haw.
Channel 4 have been showing the really old ones as of last week whilst we're all accustomed to the recent episodes. It's amazing how far the characters have come when they do things you'd never dream they'd do (homer selling the TV, Nelson being a real big enemy for Bart).
I'm not sure what my favourite episodes were but the "Who shot Mr Burns" were well done imo.

I'd say that it gets good around the fifth-six season (which both happen to have the "Who Shot Mr. Burns" episodes). Yeah, the Simpsons is far deeper than alot of comedies on Television, (especially in America) and it's nice to get a break from the crap that's normally on over here.

I have no idea why it is so popular these days to hate the Simpsons, but then again it's incredibly rare I see a new episode, so I dont have much to go by.
Sad as hell- I have seen that many reruns of the first 4 series, I can tell the entire episode almost word for word just by watching the first three minutes.
Usually the first 10 minutes of a Simpsons episode is completely de-tacted from the main plot of the episode, so quite often I can't tell which episode it is until the plot actually kicks in. I can, however, tell roughly when an episode was made in a split secound.

For the first 8 or so seasons I can roughly guess which episode is which from the couch gag, if not the first 10 seconds.
Again it's quite weird how Homer started off as a caring father only to become the oaf we all recognise him as. Probably because he fell down a cliff twice.
Yeah, listening to the commentaries of the boxset that I've got (season five) they did turn Homer from less of an angry guy in the Tracey Ullman shows to a usually happy\angry guy, and under Al Jean as executive producer he just seems to get stupider and stupider, which is a shame.
ALSO! Did you know that between season five and the current seasons they've lost two minutes of episode to commercials, meaning that a recent episode is two minutes shorter? They said this and added that this makes it harder to do multi-threaded storylines like in some of the earlier ones.
The best Simpsons episodes are the ones where you feel for the characters. Where you want them to achieve and do well. These new episodes are just crammed full of one liners. That's like putting a bandaid over cancer!
Also, what do people think of this movie they've recently confirmed is coming out 2007?

It's either going to be absolutely hillarious, or it's going to be a colossal pile of crap. I'm hoping for the first.

It'll probably be like the powerpuff movie; generally alright but doing shat at the box office.

It is a Simpsons movie.
No why in hell will a Simpsons movie flop. It'll do as well as the South Park one, even if it's not as good.
BUMP!
DUN DUN DUNNN. Simpsons movie animatic clips!
