Frick it all. Biographies are apparently dull and boring, so instead I'll put up stories. Note that none of these are complete, and the first two or so are nigh-permanently on hold, due to blockage or otherwise "story boredom." I will not post any of my stories that haven't reached ten pages of text yet, because that's just lame. They'll be here rather rapidly for the most part, though C+P is rather easy to begin with. I just hope it doesn't mess too badly with formatting. If it does, I apologize, but I'm NOT going to dredge through 100 typewritten pages of story to fix every un-done formatting change.

Also, note: They'll be the same characters several times- please, if you comment on a character, comment on them WHILE MENTIONING the story you're speaking of.

Anyway... Spoiler'd for potential unsafeness and SIZE, holy mother of earth, SIZE... Please avoid unless older than fifteen, more for convenience rather than specifics, as I haven't looked at this story in a year. This is Clan Elemental. Also, expect five/six chapters a post, depending on how massively texty they are... This is an early one, though, so only a few chapters (Mostly battles or long speeches) are really long.

Chapter One: The Feint

Briiiiiing! The area outside Terria High began filling up with students rapidly escaping the boring trap known as school. Being the last day of scholarly activity before a vacation, everybody was anxious to leave, including the teachers. In just fifteen minutes, only two students remained, and, of course, the janitorial staff.
These two students were Jay Vioga and Seth Ryoza, and they were mutual “best buddies.” In reality, there was little truth in that statement. They were brothers in every sense of the word except for genetics. They were standing in the senior locker hallway, chatting away in the near-total silence. Seth was leaning against a locker, one leg on the ground and another against the locker. Jay was leaning on the wall opposite Seth.
“So, have you seen the advertisement? About that Clan Elemental? It sounded like they needed people with your talents.”
“Yeah, Seth, I’ve seen it. You shoved it into my binder just so I could see it. I just don’t think it seems too… Well, it sounds like some cult.”
“Cult? Nah, it’s more like a union of warriors, I heard! You get to go around and help people, and beat other people up! At least, that’s what the ad said”
“Yeah, it sounds cool enough, but then I couldn’t hang out with you! You don’t have a gift like I do, you know”
“I know Jay, I know… If only I had an elemental power… But I’m still going to go to the recruiting! They might need a secretary or something, you never know. Then we could still be around each other.”
“Well, if you’re going… Then I might as well.”
“See? I knew you’d do it!”
“Only because you’re so pushy, Seth.”
“Thanks, Jay.” With that, the pair exited the school and left for home.

Chapter 2: The Story Begins!

“The ad said it was at 521 Elemental Drive… They really love the word ‘Elemental,’ huh? Ah, this must be it. I guess the big banner kinda gives it away… Although, why didn’t Seth come with me? Or at least, offer me a ride… Perhaps he didn’t want to be embarrassed.”
The building in question was a typical office building, but it had a massive multi-colored banner, which stated “CLAN ELEMENTAL RECRUITING TODAY!” in ridiculously bold letters. Jay entered with a bit of apprehension.
“Hello, there, cutie! You here to be recruited into Clan Elemental?”
Jay jumped in surprise, looking for the source of the voice. It turned out to be an attractive woman in her thirties, sitting behind a counter like a typical receptionist.
“Um, uh, yeah. I am.”
“Well, then, come on over and grab yourself one of these application forms.”
As Jay walked towards the counter, he noticed a large number of friends (and enemies) from school, but he did not find Seth.
“Why wouldn’t he be here? He said he would… It’s not like him… He never breaks a promise, whether he calls it a promise or not…”
“Here you go, honey. I hope you get in. Gods know we need some eye candy in the clan.” The woman finished her comment with a wink.
Jay hurried to an empty seat and filled out the form, mildly shocked at the woman’s forwardness. He received another wink when he went to turn the form in. He sat and fidgeted a bit, still worrying about Seth’s absence.
The woman suddenly received a transmission through her earpiece.
“Rosalina, send in Jay Vioga, please.”
“Sir, how did you…?”
“Just send him in, will you?”
“C-certainly sir.” She then addressed the waiting area. “We will now begin the interviews. Jay Vioga, you’re up first. Enter the door with the fancy symbol on it.”

Chapter 3: The Shock

Knock. Knock. Jay hesitated, unsure whether he should open the ornate gold door or not.
A voice called from within.
“Come on in, Jay. I’ve been…expecting you.”
Jay entered the room, still wondering about what was about to happen. As he entered, a high-backed chair of black leather began to swivel around. Slowly, a man in his twenties was revealed behind the smooth mahogany desk. Jay immediately noticed that this man had an unnerving resemblance to Seth.
“You, uh… Kinda look like my best friend.”
“Hmm, really? That’s quite a coincidence. What would the name of this friend be?”
“His name is… Seth, sir.”
“There’s no need of formality, you know. In fact…”
Jay stepped back in shock, as the mysterious leader of Clan Elemental began to glow in a cocoon of red-hued light. As the light faded, it revealed Seth Ryoza at age eighteen.
“What?! Seth?! Y-you’re the… It… I-it can’t…!”
“It can. I’ll explain this later, but first I must admit…”
“But wait… You said-“
“Ahem. I must admit, I have only lied to you twice. One was big, the other was really big. This is the really big lie.”
“So, you can actually…?”
“Yes, Jay. I can use elemental powers just like you. I control the element of Fire, like I always ‘wished’ I could.”
“So all that encouragement and training…”
“Was really… Me stealthily training you to be able to join my clan.”
“Hold it, though! What’s the ‘big’ lie? You never told me!”
“Hold your tongue for just a moment! I must explain what all of this means! Otherwise, the ethics committees will be all over my ass for disallowing you informed consent.”
“I don’t need to be informed. I want to join.”
“It means that you will be unable to see your friends, and will be locked into a power struggle that has continued for over eighty years. You will be fighting, training, and doing missions. You will be toiling harder than you’ve ever felt. Both mind and body shall be tested. And you will be bound to others in a cloth woven tighter than blood. Do you, Jay Vioga, thus take the vow to forever bind yourself to Clan Elemental?”
“…Wow… It’s all… A bit more than I thought…”
“Do you, Jay Vioga, thus take the vow to forever bind yourself to Clan Elemental?”
“I, Jay Vioga, thus bind myself to your service, Seth Ryoza. I am at your command.”

Chapter 4: Jay Versus Seth! Electric Firestorm!

“Didn’t I tell you to skip the formalities? Ah, well. I guess it can’t be helped. Anyway, I must now test the extent of your ability.”
“Test? Like... A multiple choice test?”
Seth hit an intercom button without addressing Jay’s question. Like a true commander, he barked his order to whatever “poor sap” was on the other end.
“Rosalina! Exam Room One! Now!”
“Certainly, sir, coming right up!”
The reality around Jay melted as he was wrapped in a blue light. The light dissipated, and slowly Jay realized he wasn’t in Seth’s office anymore. The entire area was completely nondescript flatness. They were basically standing in a white box. Dotting this almost empty landscape were black and yellow circular targets, typical of any marksmanship contest. They were at various ranges, covering the gamut from ten yards to approximately a mile.
“Jay Vioga, this is your first test. You must use your bow to strike each of these targets. The center is preferred, although just a hit will suffice.”
“Wait… I, uh, don’t have a bow…”
“Then I shall give you one.”
Red energy flared from Seth’s hands and shaped itself into what appeared to be bullhorns. The energy flew away, leaving an immaculate bow of intricate design.
“This is the bow that was used by Artemis herself. I suppose it would not displease you to use it?”
“…No. How could it ‘displease’ me?”
Seth smirked, giving a strangely creepy all-knowing smile. “I do not know myself. But I do know that someone DID turn down the use of this bow once.”
“Oh… Well… I guess I should, uh, start then?”
“Yes. You should.” Seth continued radiating his all-knowing smile while he handed Jay the bow and a quiver packed with arrows.
Then, the fun began. Jay’s arms moved like lightning as he fired arrows like a machine-gun. One after another, the targets were struck dead center. Within a minute, only five targets remained, each at a ridiculous distance. Jay pulled out five arrows, and drew back the bow as far as he could reach. Tilting the bow upward, he released the quintuple shot. Every arrow hit perfectly. Jay dropped the bow and quiver in minor exhaustion. He quickly noticed two things. One: Ouch. Two: There weren’t any extra arrows! Eeesh. The not so quick third thought: Shizam! Forty deadeye shots in only a minute and a half! I’ll bet Seth’s gonna drop his jaw!
“Excellent work, Jay. You have passed, and far beyond my expectations. Now rest, for the second, as well as final, and lastly, harshest test is much more difficult. Rosalina! Exam Room Two, if you please!”
“Of course sir.”
The feeling of weightlessness and the blue light once again surrounded Jay and Seth. When it faded once more, they were standing in the middle of a huge field of grass boxed in by mountains. The grass extended at least a mile in any direction. Jay quickly noticed that Seth was about twenty yards away, and that he was holding a silver rapier and a flaming saber.
“Catch!”
Before his brain could process anything, Seth chucked the rapier at Jay. Jay deftly caught it about a tenth of a second before it would have pierced his knee. He waved it around experimentally, and noticed that electricity crackled throughout the air as it was swung.
“That sword is the Raijin, a mystical blade of lightning. Fitting, no?”
“Then… Your sword is...?”
“This? It is the Ryojin, the Raijin’s flame-imbued counterpart. Both are weapons as legendary as your bow. Perfect for an epic clash, eh?”
“Clash? That’s the second test? A fight?”
“Exactly. A battle. Fight me as though your life depended on it!”
With this, Seth charged forward, holding his saber at the ready for a helm-splitting slash. Jay backed up a bit, bringing Raijin up to block the attack. Electricity surged through the air as the weapons collided. Suddenly, a burst of flame knocked Jay off his feet, after which he landed sprawling on the ground about ten yards away.
“You’ve got to use your elemental power, Jay! Otherwise you stand no chance!”
“You know, he’s right. I’ve got to use my power…”
Jay stood back up, ready to battle, and to win. Seth charged forward once again, this time preparing for a gutting slice. Something was different though… Seth drew a rune in the air with his free hand.
“Blazing Slicing Wave!”
Ryojin glowed brightly as flaming energy surrounded the blade. The sword’s path traced itself through the air, and a smell of vaporized grass billowed behind Seth’s charge. Jay pulled out Artemis’s bow, and pulled back an arrow as he sent electrical energy into the shaft.
“Halberd Thunder!”
Seth swung at the exact moment that Jay released his attack. A massive curving blade of flame erupted from Ryojin as Jay’s arrow became a beam of electricity. The techniques collided with a furious explosion and a fierce shockwave. Both Jay and Seth flew backwards, Seth receiving the brunt of the force. Jay immediately stood back on his feet, and prepared his “signature” technique. Yellow energies surged through the arrow he pulled onto his bowstring.
“Gyro… Arrow!”
The shot was loosed into the upper atmosphere, where the energies began to absorb the other energies in the atmosphere. A focused storm formed where the shot had gone.
“…Release!”
“Damn it.”
From the storm cloud poured twenty-three bolts of searing thunder, each aimed directly at Seth. The lightning bolts blasted a forty-yard radius around Seth completely clear of… everything. After the smoke faded away, Seth slowly stood up.
“This battle… it is… done. You… Jay Vioga, you pass.”
“Are you alright, Seth?”
“I’m fine… I’m a bit more powerful than you think. A couple of thunderbolts won’t hurt me too much. Rosalina, back to my office, please.”
“Sure thing, Seth.”
The blue light once again surrounded the pair, this time dropping them off at Seth’s office. For the first time, Jay noticed Seth’s extremely formal robe of red hemmed in gold. It also had an extended scarf of sorts at its front, upon which was embroidered a strange runic symbol.
“I, uh, just noticed… What’s with the robe?”
“Official High Council gear. I have to wear it when recruiting or on official business. They forgot to protect my actual robe with the proper spells, though… I ended up burning a massive hole in it. While they replace it at their own leisure, I have to use this itchy spare. It’s almost identical, though. It’d take a trained eye to figure that out. That, or just… observing my uncomfortable twitches. Anyway, that ‘big lie’ will be revealed as soon as you enter the back room. You’ll also get the proof of your membership. I hope you want a tattoo.”
“…Wha-“
Seth quickly pushed Jay through the door, realizing just how long this process was going to take.
“Wow. It’s a good thing the Exam Rooms have an altered temporal flow. Those tests took a good hour. As it is, that only took about four minutes, so at least I still have the element of surprise. Ten minutes is a reasonable amount of time for an interview, no?”
“It’s about perfect, sir. Shall I send in the next person?”
“Yes. Please do.”

Chapter 5: The Recluse

“Alida D’Violenue, you are next. Please enter the door with the symbol on it.”
“…Alright… Thank you…”
Alida disappeared behind the crest-emblazoned door, looking only at the floor.
“Wow. Seth, she isn’t much of a talker, just so you know…”
“I know, Rosalina. I know.”
Alida had adopted a different persona as she entered Seth’s office, walking with confidence, at least, until she saw Clan Elemental’s leader.
“Seth?! You’re the leader?! Oh, cripes.”
“Yes, I’m the leader of Clan Elemental. Now, how about sitting down and relaxing a bit? Would you like a glass of water, or soda maybe?”
“Do you have any Goffarion?”
“That ancient stuff? Yeah, plenty of it.” Seth handed Alida a blue can of soda, which she popped open and began to drink with the skill of an expert. She paused for a moment, noticing that it wasn’t quite the same flavor she was used to.
“Hey! It’s… different.”
“Yeah, it should be. I combined the three flavors together into one soda. I call it Strawgrapalicious Cherry Bomber.”
“Uhh… No comment.”
“Anyway, I should probably start the interview.”
Alida’s eyes crossed the room, searching for a wastebasket. When she found one, she arced the empty can straight in.
“So… I, uh… didn’t prepare… so… I’ll just wing it. What element or elements can you utilize?”
“I’m not sure what to call it, but I can do all sorts of stuff with light.”
“Alright… Have you ever created any weapons with your energy?”
“Yes. I’ve made…”
“Ah, now seeing is believing. If you can, make some of your more impressive pieces of art for me right now.”
“Uh… O-ok.” Alida held her hand as if she was grasping a sword’s hilt. A shining flare of white energy almost blinded Seth for a few seconds. After his eyes stopped throbbing, Seth noticed that Alida was now holding an ornate golden sword inscribed with runes. The blade sparkled with holy energies that continuously pulsed from within.
“Alida… I said impressive artwork, not a legendary sword made to banish evil!”
“S-sorry!”
“It’s not a bad thing, not at all! I just didn’t expect THIS from an untrained Spirit Forger!”
“Spirit Forger…?”
“Yeah, that’s what that art is called.” Seth held out his hand, and a small burst of red energy emanated from his hand. It dissipated to reveal a pair of brass knuckles.
“See? Spirit Forging… Oh, crap! I totally forgot…!”

Chapter 6: That Big Lie

Meanwhile, on the other side of the command room…
“So, you’re Jay, Seth’s best friend, huh?”
“W-wait, who are you?”
“I’m his sister, Harley.”
“Seth never told me he had a sister…”
“Of course not, he couldn’t. He can’t disclose the names of clan members unless you’re in a clan yourself. Problem of being in a clan. Speaking of nondisclosure…”
“I’m the big lie Seth never told you about.”
“Wait, what?”
A small gray cat pranced into the room. Jay instantly noticed it was his cat, Runty.
“Runty, why are you-“
“Duh, I’m in Clan Elemental!”
“W-wait… You can… talk?”
“Of course! Seth swore me to secrecy! Talking cats aren’t exactly normal, you know.”
“Well, of course not… Wait, so that’s why you were missing today!”
“And last Saturday.”
“W-wait, Runty, what’s happening?” Runty had enveloped himself in gray light that pulsed and expanded. It faded to reveal a gray tiger striped in black.
“Runty…?”
“Yeah, I can transform too! Isn’t it awesome?”
“Uh… Yeah…” Jay was already almost completely lost.
“Don’t worry, Jay. You’ll get it eventually. For now, though, you need to get all the marks!”
“Marks…?”

Chapter 7: Alida’s Test! Dummy Destruction Ensues!

“Wait… Test?”
“Yeah, I need to test you. Don’t worry, it’s not an essay, and it’s easier than multiple choice.”
“What-?”
“Rosalina, Exam Room Three!”
“Roger, sir!”
Alida’s head began to spin as she and Seth were surrounded by blue light. The blue light deposited them on a flat plain with training dummies sticking out in odd places.
“Your task is to fatally wound each of these training dummies. Do it however you wish, with whatever weapon you wish to use. You may begin whenever you are ready.”
Alida concentrated on her hand, and white energy began shaping itself in the air. She released her mental grip on the energy, and a revolver tipped with a triangular sword blade dropped into the palm of her hand. Seth stared at it, trying to understand what she had crafted.
“What in the world…?”
“I call it a gunsword. It’s a combination of a whip, a gun, and a sword. It’s really handy.”
“That’s… interesting.”
Wow. She’s really inventive. And she’s an amazing Spirit Forger. To produce Claimh Solais on a whim… It’s a good thing I gave her that energy boost though… Otherwise she’d have collapsed already.
“Ok, I’m going to start now.”
“Go right ahead.” Seth twitched a little. His robe was starting to itch again.
With a loud bang, the blade at the end of the revolver turned into a silver blur as it shot through the closest dummy, piercing its head. Alida rushed towards the other dummies as the blade retracted back to the gun’s barrel. Arm and steel flashed through the air, whistling out a song of dummy death as heads and torsos were split like watermelons in a cheesy samurai commercial. One, two, three, twenty-four of the dummies were cut apart. With another loud bang, the blade of Alida’s gunsword shot into the air. Grasping the chain connecting blade and gun, Alida began twirling the sword in a massive circle. Metal blurs arced a dangerous barrier around her as she began chanting an incantation.
“Holy energy of shining light, destroy the foe upon this night! Rayblade!”
The circle began blazing with blinding, bright energy. Shining steel struck the last dummy in a searing flash, completely erasing the poor training doll from existence. After a few moments to erase the after-glare, Seth noticed that Alida was kneeling on the ground, breathing heavily and barely supporting herself. Seth pushed some of his energy into her inconspicuously. Within a minute, she was able to stand back up and turn to face him.
“Well, Alida, you pass. But, uh… Try not to overdo it so much next time, alright?”
“Ok… Anything else you need me to do?”
“Yeah. One last test. Rosalina, Exam Room Two, please.”
“Of course.”

Chapter 8: Solar Flare! Fight And Flight of Anger!

Seth was once again deposited in the lush fields of Exam Room Two. No evidence remained of the explosive clash he had with Jay. Alida looked about in minor confusion.
“What now? Find the stray dog?”
“No, no. Fight me.”
“Fight?!”
“Yes. Fight me as though your last breath was quickly coming. As though the foundations of your life and sanity had crumbled beneath your feet. As though… the very woman you loved the most had betrayed you.”
“…!”
Seth began conjuring an image into the air. It was a picture of Alida’s girlfriend having some fun on the side, and with none other than Seth himself.
I’m sorry I have to deceive you, Alida. But, I must see your true potential, as I know naught of it.
“…You…”
Crimson energy began swirling around Alida. Seth stepped back, worrying about what horror he may have unleashed.
“…You…!”
Did I push her too far? This energy is filled with conflict… Anger, hatred, darkness… What could she be doing?
The energy blasted into the atmosphere, forming a spiral column of blood-red light. Waves of pressure emanated from this tower, pulsing with energy and throwing electrical sparks everywhere. The field they had been standing on was now an inferno.
She’s… She’s unleashing her Guardian Spirit! I did push her too far! Now, it is I who must fight to survive…
“…You… BASTARD!!! You’ll PAY!!!”
The energy was thrown away in every direction, scattered like leaves upon a fearsome gale. What remained was no longer Alida. Crouching on all fours was a repulsive facsimile of her original form. Her face had been transformed into a fox’s wild, snarling snout, full of razor-sharp teeth. Her body was now covered in pure white fur; her limbs elongated and tipped in deadly predator claws. Nine tails now flailed about, each one sprouting from what once was Alida’s backside.
Damnit! This is no Guardian Spirit! Her anger has morphed even its powers… This is the Divine Kyuubi, the Dread Form of the Yoko Spirit… I have to use it. There’s no other way to survive this. Her fury is palpable… It’s twisting even the air around her… Perhaps I shouldn’t have put myself into that image...
Great Phoenix, aid me in this battle so that I may prevail!
Wasn’t it you, little one, who started this battle?
Please, Great One, do not mock me now. I would prefer that I live to run my clan… I just got Jay to join, and there’s no telling how he’d react if he learned I’d been gored to death by a twisted, clouded mockery of his second closest friend.
You have a point. My power is yours, so use it well. I do hope you don’t plan to make every recruit this angry…
Heavens, no, O Great One. Thank you for lending me your strength.
I am bonded to you, and thus am bound to aid you. Thank not me, but the great wizard Laedel.
“Great Phoenix, grant unto me your power!!!”
Flames erupted from the scorched earth, surrounding Seth in a blazing cocoon. From this orb of fire burst two wings, each radiating intense energy. The energy pressures collided between Seth and the Divine Kyuubi, crushing the very fabric of the space around them.
The flames engulfing Seth flew away upon the intense pressure, revealing Seth’s altered form. He now floated above the destroyed earth, slowly flapping his shining wings of fire.
“Well, then. Let us dance!”
“I’LL KILL YOU!!!”
“Meteor… IMPACT!!!”
“Divine Destruction…!!!”
Seth flew into the air, blazing inside an aura of conflagration. The Divine Kyuubi shone within a blinding aura of light. Seth began a searing nosedive, fist first. The Divine Kyuubi leaped toward Seth, jaws open and claws ready.
“HaaaaaAAAAAAH!”
“KIIIIIIIILL!!!”
Seth and the Divine Kyuubi collided as massive, searing beams of light. The entire area was completely vaporized in the explosion. Time, space, and everything else warped and twisted until everything was totally annihilated.
“Holy shit, Seth! That was reckless! Exam Room Two is completely erased… Thank the gods you’ve got me to take care of you.”

Chapter 9: Woah…

“Rosalina, send Alida to the infirmary! Get Harley on medic duty, now!”
“But, sir, shouldn’t you…?”
“I said, now!”
“A-alright, sir… Will you be okay?”
“I’ll be fine! I’ve taken harder hits from the training programs.”
“Right…”
“Alida needs medical attention, now. While she’s unconscious, Harley, take care of the other stuff.”
“Of course, Seth. Is she going to be okay?”
“Only if you start taking care of her now!”
“Y-yes…”
Meanwhile, out in the lobby, people were looking around in shock. Thanks to some personal control on Rosalina’s part, all they heard was a very loud “Holy Shit!”
“Rosalina, send in the next person, please.”
“Are you-?”
“Yes, I’m sure! Send him, or her, in, now!”
“Y-yes, sir. Ami Reichino, you are next.”
“Um, miss, could I bring my friend in too?”
“Let me check… Seth, sir, this girl wants to bring her friend in at the same time… Is that alright?”
“Just send them in.”
“Alright, Ms. Reichino, you’re all set. Your friend is…?”
“Rylee Norrello.”
“Enter the door the others have gone through.”
“Alright. Thanks.”

Chapter 10: Two Pair!

“What the…? Seth? You’re…?! And the…!”
“Ah, damnit. I forgot.”
O, Great Phoenix… Could you, uh, stop… You know, helping me for now?
Of course, little one. It seems you forgot to do this earlier. Guess Runty got out of the bag, so to speak?
I can’t see you, O Great one, but I’d swear you’re wearing a smarmy smirk on that fiery beak of yours.
And I’d swear you can see me. I am, indeed, wearing that oh-so-annoying all-knowing smile you so often irritate others with.
Are you sure you’re a Guardian Spirit?
Of course I am. Do you doubt my power after all this time?
No, not at all. Thank you, O Great Phoenix.
Back in Seth’s office, the wings and flame dissolved into the air, leaving Seth as he was before he put himself on Alida’s bad side. Rylee and Ami simply stood in awe, wondering what was going on.
“Sorry about that, trippy special effects are supposed to help impress the new recruits.”
“Trippy indeed…”

Hargh. Chapter 11. Really hating this character limit thing...

Chapter 11: The Ace Of Swords Approaches! Heated Battle!

About ten real-world minutes, some shouting, and a hard smack to the face later, Ami and Rylee were ushered through the back door of Seth’s office to join Seth, Harley, Runty, and Alida.
“Harley, status report on Alida.”
“Stable, but unconscious. I added the Clan Symbol about three minutes ago.”
“Good. Be sure to add them to Ami and Rylee, and make sure nobody gets at anybody else’s throats.”
“Of course, Seth.” Harley sounded mildly exasperated.
“Now, Rosalina, send in the next person.”
“Of course. Chris Malento, you are up next. Enter the shiny door, please.”
“Thank you, miss. I should easily make whatever requirements this clan has. After all, I am pretty much perfect.”
“Seth, this guy’s a little full of himself.”
“Don’t worry, it’s only an act. He thinks it impresses the ladies. Unfortunately, it works on most of them.”
Chris entered with a confident stride, only pausing to notice just who the leader of Clan Elemental was.
“Seth! This is certainly a pleasant surprise.”
“It is, it is. Sit down, Chris, and have a soda.”
“Well, thanks. Let me guess, you want to know what element I use?”
“Yeah, that’s rather important.” Seth popped open his soda and drained half of it before he set it back down again.
“Excuse me for a moment, please.”
“Sure thing, Seth.” Seth and Chris were friends with each other, as well as Jay. They had a sort of rivalry going in their Arts of War class at school.
Seth began rubbing the knuckles of his left hand, wincing slightly as the skin began contorting and bones and muscle began to repair themselves. His hand sparked slightly with the energy flowing through it.
“I can’t believe it lasted that long… I went through an exam against two people, and I didn’t even notice…”
“What didn’t you notice, Seth?”
“I almost broke my hand on someone’s skull.”
I didn’t mean to say anything out loud… Oh well.
“So, I’m guessing you’ll want to know my element now? I can utilize icy energies, Seth.”
“Alright. I guess I should test them now.”
“Ooh, we get to spar? We’ll finally know who the better swordsman is!”
“Still on that defeat from Arts of War? Very well. Rosalina, Exam Room 5!”
“Whoa…!”
Chris, as with everybody else, was unused to the sudden release from the tethers of gravity and reality. Once his body had regained its sense of anchor, he noticed that he was now standing on a flat, dusty plain, about fifty yards away from Seth. Seth was holding a saber and a longsword in his hand. He threw the longsword over to Chris, which he deftly plucked from the air.
“Let us duel, then, Chris, to see… who really… the better swordsman is!”
Seth charged forward, ready to slice Chris in two. Chris leapt backward a short distance, bringing his sword up to block the side strike. The blade was quickly knocked aside as though it were a petal upon a gale. Small whirls of dirt flew around Seth’s feet as he whirled around for a lethal strike to the head. Chris ducked, arcing his blade upward to strike at Seth’s crotch. Seth rapidly jumped backward, preparing a new strike at Chris’s arm. Chris jumped back and swung at Seth’s hand, realizing that the saber’s added weight gave Seth the advantage.
Seth moved faster than Chris’s eyes could process. He dropped his grip, Chris’s sword missing by millimeters. He grabbed the sword with his other hand, and it flashed into rest a mere hair’s breadth from Chris’s leg.
“You just lost, Chris.”
“Right. Now, make it a fair fight.”
“As you wish.” Seth’s saber evaporated into thin air, and from his hand sprung a sword identical to Chris’s.
“Is this satisfactory, Chris?”
“I suppose.”
“Let us begin again, then.” Seth leapt back to his original position, leaving small dust eddies in his wake.
“Perhaps, you should show me your mastery of the Ice element as well?”
“Sure thing, Seth.” Chris smiled as he prepared his attack.
Let’s hope this works!
“Glacier Icenova!”
Chris’s sword glowed bright blue as an icy squall erupted around the blade.
Yes! It………
Chris blacked out, falling onto the dust with a dull thud. The snowstorm surrounding his sword faded away, lacking a source of energy to sustain it.
“Rosalina, bring him to the infirmary as well. It seems Alida will get some company today… Bring me back to my office, and send in the next person.”
“Certainly, sir.”

If this is really, truly bad, then delete this post, but it's an update which requires a double post. These are long writings, and as such the character limit is an issue when C+Ping it in. Chapters 11 and 12 are freaking INSANELY LONG. With that, Chapter 12.

Chapter 12: A Long Road Awaits!

“Well, I think that was a good day’s work.”
“I agree, sir.”
“Seth, are you ever going to come back here and greet us all?”
“Eventually, Rylee.”
“Come on, Seth! Get your ass back here!”
“Sis, you are far too pushy. Just give me some time to think a bit…”
Well, well, well. We’ve got quite a cast of characters. Let’s see… Jay and Ami both use electricity, and Rylee uses sand, apparently. Kaytlyn will get some one on one training with Harley to teach her the intricacies of the Wind element… Chris needs to learn to use a less energy-intensive technique, and Alida as well. Julian seems a little reckless, but he IS, after all, only fourteen. All in all, I think I’ve got a good group to prep for the future… I just hope HE cooperates…
“Alright, I’m coming in! Just be sure to put away any alcoholic beverages and stop your partying!” The only response was laughter.
Seth entered the core of Clan Elemental’s base to find all of its members sitting at the very large table in the center of the room. Everyone was in surprisingly high spirits, and even Alida was wearing a bright smile. Runty was curled up in Jay’s lap, looking for all the world like a normal, carefree cat.
“Alright, I’ve got a lot to teach you guys, but I guess the most important is certainly the use of less extreme techniques. So far, the only moderation I’ve seen from anyone is Jay not starting with Gyro Arrow right off the bat.”
Everyone began staring at Jay, who then starting looking very sorry, almost as if he was now branded a serial killer.
“Don’t worry! It’s not a bad thing. It’s just that… You need a less extreme measure, something you can use to help, but without dropping into unconsciousness, or worse, just plain extreme fatigue.”
Kaytlyn piped up in minor confusion. “But, wouldn’t dropping into essentially a coma be worse than dropping into exhaustion?”
“No. Most people will be kind and NOT kill you if you’re stupid enough to use all of the energy you’ve got and end up snoring. These same ‘kind folks,’ however, would gladly take the opportunity to end your life if you happen to still be conscious after foolishly wasting your strength.” This time, it was Harley who spoke.
“Harley happens to be right. Rosalina might be a miracle worker, but even she cannot save you if you happen to run out of juice. That teleportation all of you got dizzy from takes a little of your energy to use. Not much, but if you’re dead empty, well, that ‘dead’ just might mean a whole lot more than you think.
“But hey, I don’t really want to sound alarmist right now. Seeing as we are our only opponents right now, we don’t yet have to worry about losing important limbs. Anyway, on to lesser techniques. I will show and teach you each at least one lesser technique that will drain much less energy than what you’ve used on me. Luckily, I’ve got lots of experience in non-elemental techniques. All these years in the clans are pretty useful.”
“Wait… All these years? How long have you been leader of Clan Elemental?” Jay’s brain was still loopy from Harley and Runty earlier that day. Unfortunately, he was in for another metaphorical headdesk.
“Seth here has led Clan Elemental for thirty-two years. He’s been in the clan for eighty-one, which goes back to when it was Clan Dragonica.” Harley spoke with a small smirk on her face, knowing just what came next.
The universal cry of everyone else in the room, except Seth and Runty, was: “WHAAAT?!”
“That’s just the coolest thing about being in a clan. We can’t die from natural causes… We are all immortal from an aging standpoint. There are magics to alter one’s appearance to that of his or her appearance at another age. Those I will not teach you for quite some time. However, those magics are the reason I appeared to be about twenty-three when I interviewed Jay.”
Kaytlyn was already imagining herself at the age of twenty-one, while all the others were left imagining Seth as a really old geezer.
“AHEM. To go back on topic, the first technique I’m showing you is called Force Palm. It basically turns the energy you release into a powerful gravitational field capable of making things ‘fall’ towards your foe.”
Seth picked up a glass paperweight “conveniently” resting on the table. He gently juggled it in the air for a moment, and then threw it up high and yelled, “Force Palm!” The area surrounding Seth’s palm immediately warped and twisted, making the air in front of his hand look like a heat mirage. The moment the paperweight entered this morphed space, it rocketed into the wall Seth’s hand was parallel to, shattering and covering the wall and floor with shiny shards of glass. All of the newbies jumped in shock.
Jay’s statement reflected the sentiments of the entire cast of recruits.
“Whoa!”
“Whoa, indeed, Jay. This technique can transform any sort of object into a powerful projectile. Next up is Aura Shot, which I believe will be most useful for Jay and Julian. This, like Force Palm, requires something extra to really work. I mean, you could use Force Palm to push a person, but pushing a rock into that same person’s face would probably help more in the long run. Aura Shot requires one to utilize his or her weapon. For example…”
Seth produced a simple bow from thin air with a flourish of his hand and a burst of red energy. An arrow popped into existence in a similar manner just a second later. Seth prepped a shot at the slightly deformed wall he had just thrown the paperweight into.
“Aura… Shot!”
The arrow was instantly surrounded in a storm of energy as it soared towards the wall. It struck with a dull thwack, which was instantly followed by a loud bang. The energy cocooning the shot had vaporized a foot-wide circular area around its contact point. There was now a hole in the wall looking right into the infirmary that Chris and Alida had spent the better part of a half an hour in.
Another “Whoa!” quickly ensued, but Seth shushed it with his next remarks.
“I always forget this. I always do. Okay, the door in the back leads to the infirmary, where you’ll get any cuts or bruises treated, and where you end up if you at any time lose consciousness.” Alida and Chris fidgeted a bit, mostly Alida, though.
“Next to it, and on the far side of that big metal thing with the door handles, is the male dormitory. That is where you, Jay, Julian, Runty, and Chris, will sleep. In the back of said dormitory is a bathroom with enough space, sinks, toilets, and showers for you all to have to go, wash hands, and just wash at the same time, with even a few extra. I will not baby-sit you, I expect you to work out the bunk arrangements yourselves.
“Opposite it, on the other wall, is the door leading to MY personal room. Do not enter it unless you have my permission or are dying. There’s a reason there are intercoms placed on every wall.
“Meanwhile, that big metal thing with the door handles is the fridge and freezer. It contains at least one unit of every food one could possibly imagine needing refrigeration or freezing. The stuff needed to heat it back up is stored in the walls, just look for the appropriately labeled buttons.” He pointed at a nearby button labeled “Microwave.”
“On the other side of the fridge is the door to the girls’ dormitory. Again, arrangement is up to you. Similarly, there is a bathroom in the back. Some smarmy plumber decided to put urinals in there alongside the regular toilets, though, so don’t be surprised to see the useless things. I remember telling the fool it was meant for females.”
The guys laughed, while the girls just rolled their eyes.
Harley spoke up next. “I will not be sleeping with you girls, however. I have… my own arrangements for sleep.”
Just as Jay did, Ami’s response reflected the group’s question. “Um… Why not? Are you like half-dude, half-chick?” All right, maybe it DIDN’T reflect the group’s thoughts, but it did still raise the proper question of “why.”
“Well, you see, Harley likes to sleep in that tube over there.” Seth pointed at a cryogenic stasis tube over in the far corner of the room. “Every night, she strips herself naked and hops into that tube, and ‘buckles’ herself in for the night. She claims it’s good for the skin, but then again, she does essentially marinate herself in some sort of human cleaning fluid. Don’t expect to be seeing anything, though. My sis cares about her privacy, and that tube has its own shielding mechanism to prevent prying eyes from peeking in.”
Chris dropped his head in a pathetic, perverted form of sadness, while Julian acted his age and pretended he didn’t like the thought of naked girls. Jay managed to look as though he was deep in thought contemplating the mysteries of the universe, while Kaytlyn stared at Chris with minor contempt. Ami and Rylee were laughing at Julian’s excessive protest, and Alida was thinking on the same channel as Chris: Damn. Runty was left licking his paw in a self-absorbed manner, and Harley simply petted him while she shook her head and laughed internally.
“Wow… I didn’t think I could get such varied reactions from one comment. Anyway… You guys get yourselves dinner. I’ll be in my quarters… I’ve got some stuff I need to do before I officially end your first day as members of Clan Elemental. Feel free to do whatever, there’s board games and video games stashed in the dormitories. By the way, all of your clothes are here, put into drawers in your dormitories. The drawers are labeled with your names, of course. I’d suggest some nice pajamas, because the rest of the night will be pretty boring.”
Everyone scattered except Harley, who stuck behind with the obvious intent to talk to her brother. By the time everyone had filtered into his or her dormitories, Seth had himself a bowl of instant ramen and was headed for his quarters.
“Seth! Hold up now.” Seth stopped, although he was still stirring his steaming bowl of ramen with an air of expertise.
“How do you like the new recruits?”
“They are a great bunch. With some training, they’ll be fit to shoot for the stars!” He ended this comment with a joking smile, which Harley flashed in return.
“You know what I mean, Seth. Do you really think they’ll be ready for-“
“Don’t ever remind me of our brother, Harley. I don’t need the stress of HIM piling on top of me right now. As far as I’m concerned right now, he isn’t even a brother. You know why I’ve ignored his existence. I cannot imagine why you would not.”
“Are you questioning my loyalty, Seth?!”
“No, Harley, merely your senses. What he did is beyond forgivable! And yet, you forgive him!”
“Do not try my patience, Seth! I have a fuse just as short as yours, and I will not be insulted by my own brother!”
Harley and Seth jumped as a pssh sound signaled the opening of the male dormitory door. Chris walked out, barely noticing the scene mercifully halted in the nick of time.
“Oh, hey, Seth, Harley. I thought you’d be in your quarters, Seth…” Chris was slowly approaching the fridge.
“Yeah, I just wanted to get myself dinner.” Seth waved the bowl of ramen gently, as if to corroborate his statement. Chris smiled in agreement.
“Food. Can’t live with it, can’t live without it. Just like girls… No offense, Harley.”
“None taken, Chris. Now get back to your demeaning circle of sex stories, or whatever it was you were doing.” Harley forced a smile so that her statement did not seem as harsh as the tone would imply.
“Alright, babe, I’ll be sure to dream of you tonight.” Chris winked at her, completely missing the cold anger and finishing up what he thought was good-natured bantering. He re-entered the dormitory with another quiet pssh.
“I’ll be in my room, Harley. If you have further need of me, be sure to knock first.”
“But, Seth…!”
He was already gone, lost behind the shiny silver door. Harley walked over to the table, already on the verge of tears. Once she sat down, she found she couldn’t hold it in anymore. Her tough exterior melted as the water exited her eyes.
“I haven’t forgiven him, not at all… But ignoring it won’t help anything… And him being a High Councilman and all…”
Another soft pssh forced Harley upright. Alida exited the girls’ dormitory holding an empty can of Goffarion. When she saw Harley, though, she dropped the can and rushed next to her.
“Harley, what’s wrong?”
“It…It’s nothing.”
“Right. You’re crying because of nothing.”
“Well… I guess I could tell you. After all, we’re teammates. It’s Seth. He’s being an ass again.”
“Ah, I’ve gotten a first-hand look at Seth being an ass. What’d he do?”
“Family issues.”
“Enough said.”
“What’d he do to you, Alida?”
“Somehow, he created an image of him doing it with my girlfriend. Apparently, I took it so badly I passed out.”
“He’s lying, a bit. But only to help you.”
“What…?”
“Well, you already know he DIDN’T sleep with your girlfriend. But, he did kinda lie about the ‘passing out from anger’ thing.”
“I don’t really care how it happened. I already figured out that I was somehow morphed into something else. That’s why he had to fix up his fingers while interviewing Chris. He said he took a whole exam with Ami and Rylee without noticing, and I was right before them. By extrapolation, the face Chris said that Seth busted his hand on had to be mine. Since I don’t remember it happening, I obviously wasn’t in control during that event.”
“Oh, wow. You are really quite observant.”
“Thanks. Do you feel better now?”
“Yeah, I do. Thank you. By the way, what are you doing in the dorm?”
“Truth or Dare. It was going epically when I left. I wanted another can of soda.”
“I think I’ll join you in there… As long as nobody dares me to kiss my brother or anything stupid like that.”
“There’s a ‘No Kiss, Diss, Sex, Or Ex’ policy on any and every dare given in that room.”
“Neat policy. Let’s go already, I’m bored to the bone.”
“Alright, alright.”
With only a quick side-swipe to grab some extra cans of soda, Alida and Harley entered the girls’ dorm, leaving the main room completely empty, except for the rebounding sound of a gentle pssh.
