Its kinda strange to post here since I haven't really been here, but I just paid $65.84 for a game, I am pissed and I need a place to bitch about why this game is terrible and dosen't deserve to be used as a cup coaster for a luke-warm beer in a broken down strip club.
For those that don't know, inFAMOUS is a superhero orgin game were you play as Cole MacGrath, a sorry bike messager, with no real personality and a fat friend named Zeke, who is willing to take advantage of his only friend in the world.... just to make a few bucks. Now on to why this game blows.
The artwork and comic book style of story telling in this game, is very visualy pleasing, but that doesn't seem to translate into the game itself. Cole looks amazing, the NPCs, enemies and enviroments however, don't. The NPCs looks like deformed freaks, they seem to stare awkwardly at you when you speak to them, and the over all animations within the game, look robotic, unnatrually quick, jerky and seem to be used EVERYWHERE (NPCs, enemies, whatever). Trish, Cole's girlfriend seems to suffer most. Now I am not a very picky guy when it comes to women, due to me not being "perfect" like Brad Pitt... but holy crap. He must of been drinking the good stuff when he found her, because not even my standards are that low.
Ol Cole is an urban explorer, which most of the gameplay is indeed that. Think Assassin's Creed, only beaten and rushed out the door by some lazy developers. Cole's climbing isn't as natrual as Altair's. Altair is like an angel, which when compaired to Cole, makes poor Cole look like a monkey. Now I know compairing anything to Assassin's Creed isn't really fair, but I don't care. There is no real flow between what Cole is leaping from, and what he is grabbing onto, and the game seems to make you gravitate to a ledge or a pole. And while that does save you a little, it also makes to grab onto the wrong surface at times when you are in a frantic rush to escape gunfire.
HINT: Here is something to expect... when you are jumping towards that ledge on a side of a building, trying to escape a missle, get ready to be sucked towards that light pole! Its almost like the game wants you to be a sitting duck!
Cole has some powers! Which are fun at times and seem well thought out. Like the Lightning Bolt, which has two functions depending on your karma. The Good bolt will replenish your energy, and at its max, a well placed "Head Shock" will heal you at the same time. The Evil one is my person fav. A "Head Shock" from one of these bad boys will make the poor bastard that gets hit with it, explode.
However using them in combat gets lame. You will end up, very early in the game, just hanging off the ledges and shocking people from behind cover. the whole game seems to suffer from this, easy, normal or hard, until you run into a boss fight, or a Reaper Conduit, which gets REALLY, really fun, since they can teleport to were ever you are and dodge whatever you throw at it. For the best exp, fight one on hard.
The story is most likely my second greatest problem with this game. Its predictable and Cole's lack of personality makes you question "why?" whenever you are faced with a good or evil action. Cole just doesn't have the motive to be a bad guy.
Oh, and random fact: While the voice acting in the game is good, the in game cuts that reveal some of the plot are turned into a laughable side show due to the animations.
And finally, the number one thing that kills me about this game... The lead game developer actually had the balls to say that this game could of only been made for the PS3.
What?
Let me point something out... Killzone 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 are the only two games that could ever be played on the PS3. The ultra realistic graphics, gameplay and world, will only ever run on the PS3, or a NASA built computer.
Now, please tell me why that little cunt would say such a retarded statement like that when I am almost positive I seen one of the same cop cars in that game, in Grand Theft Auto II?
