alright, what I want to know, is what games do you know to be the black sheeps of series. you know, the ones that are an attempt to try new ideas or change the formula. the only ones I know are Z2AOL and maybe STH.

The correct plural of "sheep" is "sheep", not "sheeps"... But that aside...
Final Fantasy II, a very underrated game. Sure, the system is far from perfect , but it's still fun and has a decent plot to it.

Shadow the Hedgehog.
Very much an attempt.
I think Ape Escape 3, and Shadow of the Colossus.

SOTC can't be a black sheep since its the only one in its series.
Kirby Squeak Squad, FFXII AND VII(Materia), AND X(First with a grid), AND III(First where you could change class in game)

Tales of Legendia, Disgaea DS, Phantasy Star Universe.
Only ones I can think of right now.

It counts a Ico 2. Why would the new one be called Ico 3? And SOTC was awesome btw.

I thought SOTC was a prequel to ICO, not a sequel?

I never said it was a sequel. It's the second Ico title. But yeah, it is a prequel.
Hmm... Lemme see...
Devil May Cry 2 - Basically, it was WAY too easy. Why? Because you can just shoot EVERYTHING. The BGs were nice and big but that made guns more important than swordplay... Not to mention you can just tap the evasion button after a mass amount of shooting to perfectly evade...
Tales of Legendia - Well... it would have been nice... Except for the fact the controls felt klunky and there were no Hi-Ougis... It was nice to see a gigantic dragon getting grappled though.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance - Some people like it, others don't. My reason? The damn law system. It made things TOO frustrating...
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - A Sonic Game... Made by Bioware. Now normally I would have rejoiced (actually back then I did), but then, things were WAY below my expectations... Too bad, it had such potential. Hopefully part 2 is better.
Soul Calibur 4 - Yeah, you read this right. Despite the fact it's the best graphical SC to date, I also consider it the worst. I mean, c'mon... Tales of Souls Mode actually made it so a story was being told and in SC4 what do we get? A few fights with no decent dialogue in the middle? Not to mention in SC3, when characters talk, their mouths actually move that way instead of being just dubbed... CoS would have been nice too, if you didn't have to look like a total idiot just to make your CoS strong.

Castlevania 2.
It had some good ideas, but was too early to be appreciated. For one, leveling up was largely unnecessary. The major Achilles heel though was the horrid translation we got stateside. It was so bad it made the game physically impossible to play without help from a FAQ. (lol kneel before the river to reveal a hidden passage. I totally woulda guessed that on first sight.)
However, I'm glad Konami learned from their past follies and tried the formula again for SoTN.
