With the year 2008 coming to a close, let's look back on what games were a smash hit, and what...wasn't.

Best:

Tales of Vesperia: With engaging characters, a well-paced storyline, hours upon hours of gameplay and tons of secrets and sidequests, this is hands-down one of the best RPGs ever, even better then FF12

The World Ends with You: While Squenix's recent RPGs have been considered lackluster (Inifinite Undiscovery), this game was one of their highest points this year. Cool story, awesome music, unique visuals and loads and loads of character development...one of SE's best.

Sonic Chronicles: Bioware really came through with this one. Top-notch story, improves the characters personalities (Knux, Big and Amy, to name a few), plus the only new character sinc Blaze that HASN'T been bashed to high heaven.

Crisis Core: Let's be frank, FF7, though good, is one of the most overrated games in history. Even so, this prequel still manages to deliver with a believable cast and a story that shows what Zack went through, from his early days as a 2nd class SOLDIER all the way to the Nebihim Incident that kicked off the original game.

FF4 DS: FF4, although no FF12, is still one of the finest Final Fantasy games, and this remake shows it all too well. Great 3D graphics for a DS, suprisingly good voice-acting (aside from Kain) and a slight expansion on the story are only the tip of the iceberg.

Worst: Erm...I haven't really played any games this year that I've hated, so...no entries from me.

So what games were the best and worst of 2008 for you? Also, for the sake of keeping things civil, try to explain/defend your reasons for your entries, particularly for the worst entries.

(NOTE: I actually enjoyed a LOT of the games I played this year, the ones in the Best entry are the ones that had come out this year)

Best:

Tales of Vesperia: Hands down the best Tales of yet. The Animation, The Story, The Characters. A fun game all in all. Plus, the improved features in the game made it enjoyable.

The World Ends With You: Seriously, one of the best games on the DS if not the best. Fun story. Enjoyable Characters. And Unique game play. Plus the soundtrack is killer. A few flaws with the touch screen battles, but with all the prs, it's easy to over look.

Sonic Unleashed (Wii and 360): The best 3D Sonic game to date. The Day time levels are fun as hell. Though, it's over to quickly. I actually had fun on with the Night Tame Levels on 360 version, on the Wii though, it's a bit aggravating. But still has enjoyable moments. All in All Sonic Unleashed is fun.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl: God I miss Roy. Still a fun game. Despite the aggravating Story Mode, it an awesome, awesome game. A few disappointments in the roster, it's overlook able though.

Mario Kart Wii: God this game is so aggravating. Why do I love it so? I still haven't unlocked all the characters, and I guess that's good. But I love playing on Wi-Fi. Getting owned online is a crushing blow to my soul. But still a fun crushing blow. And there aren't a lot of cheaters. Yay. =D

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin: Days of Ruin is the best Advance Wars yet. Instead of being completely lighthearted like the previous ones, it has a Darker Tone. Though, the difficulty of this game is low compared to Black Hole Rising or Dual Strike.

Mega Man 9: While not as hard as 2 or 3, it is still difficult. And fun. It beat me over the head with nostalgia. A lot. Especially when I threw down the controller and cried in my room for an hour.

Persona 4: I love the story in this game. It's fucking awesome. The gameply is pretty epic as well. I love the characters and the art is amazing. Though, some of the voice acting could be a tad better.

Worst:

To Be Added Later.

Best:
LittleBigPlanet- God i love it. Great character customization, excellent level design abilities, and the fact that you can play online with people around the world and download other's levels.
Disgaea 3- Funny, and fun. The battle system is great.
SSBB- My friend's always bugging me to play it. The story mode wasn't too bad either.

Worst:
Added later when I can think of some.

I had to look at a list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_in_video_gaming) to be sure I forget a videogame I’ll have bought this year, so much 2008 sucks… which is quite ironic because I’ve bought 5 games and 1 extension that year: that makes two more game than the previous year, 2007.

It’s interesting to see as “great” games like Spore can quickly fall into my pit of oblivion…

Anyway, my list won’t be hard:

Favourite game of 2008:
Dead Space
This game is full with good points: the way sounds are managed into the void, the beautiful soundtrack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-DtH1mKZg0) (sorry : I meant this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfbV6sSrn_4)), the oppressing and stressing atmosphere, the overall design, the light effects, the way you can hammer your steel boots into the enemy’s corps while shouting obscenities behind your keyboard (while your heartbeat rate slowly turns to normal)… Definitely the only game I’ll remember from that year.

Of course this game isn’t perfect, but don’t get me started on this because I’m an old-fashioned bastard whose last favourite game is from 1995…

Worst game of 2008:
Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
Even now I just can’t explain myself why I bought this game in the first place.
Maybe I was hoping it would prove me that MMORPG aren’t all about mashing the F1 button while your character (typically a manga-looking slut with enough armour on her body to barely forge a single horseshoe) hammers her “f*ck you attack” in a deluge of pyrotechnical effects…

…I found myself with a quite beautiful game (the first MMORPG using something a bit newer than the Unreal 2 engine), very occidental-looking, where you can fully customize your character’s face before hiding it beneath the same armour-suit as every single other player out there (http://www.sympato.ch/~dark-ax/temp/aoc_temp_01.jpg) and going mashing three buttons instead of one.

While the game had a very good aesthetic potential (very good soundtrack, beautiful landscapes, interesting NPCs (http://www.sympato.ch/~dark-ax/temp/aoc_temp_02.jpg)), it was not enough for me to willing pay the monthly fee…
