Well done!

Yes, very interesting indeed. The edges on some are rough, but they have a cute and simple style to them that makes it fit in perfect. I've always loved little item icons like these in video games. I love these!

Me too. We see in the last time always these morphing Power Rangers recolours or edits, but this is a nice variation. :D

It's a minor edit of a Rockman Jump sprite, they all use that many colors.

That's pretty damn good Speed, keep it up.

Done in about two minutes in paint,
he's gonna be in my next BYOND game.

Woo, full sheet.
Edit - Also added a brighter version.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Ukyo
05-01-09, 03:39
Wait, wasn't Omega Zero technically the real Zero anyway?
I could have sworn there was something in one of the games saying that Omega was in Zero's real body.
I guess my monitor is too bright for you folks if they look like that though.

Darth Dumbo
05-01-09, 05:21
Technically, yeah, Omega Zero is physically the original, just not in the head.

Try making the hair a bit more...I had it a second ago...frizzy. I think that's the word I was thinking of...

The heroes of Akira Kurosawa's motion picture epic "Shichinin no Samurai".

To make things easier, their names in order of left to right are:
Kyuzo, Katsushiro, Kikuchiyo, Heihachi, Kambei, Gorobei, Shichiroji.

Plaz
19-03-09, 14:27
Shichiroji's weapon is oddly shaded in comparison to everything else. It shouldn't have such a dark outline on the blade.

Ukyo
19-03-09, 20:11
Could you provide an example of a better designed one? I can't seem to be able to make his weapon look any better.

More pixelated stuff for you to enjoy, this time it's a drawing of outer-space!

Yay, boredom!

Edit: I didn't like the MS paint colors on the planets.

Xterra
30-10-09, 11:03
The blue, green, and brown planet are too horizontally alligned for a "fantasy space sprite artwork". Although it is more realistic. My only real complaint are the small "blossom" patches of stars throughout the picture. Try and make it more gradual, and interconnected.

I also suggest that the next time you're bored enough to sprite space, that you try different sizes of planets, at different distances from the screen. See what you can make.

I know of a guide that helped me sprite/draw space, so let me quickly find it...

(EDIT)- Here are the guides that helped me out:

http://gallery.artofgregmartin.com/tuts_arts/making_a_star_field.html

http://gallery.artofgregmartin.com/tuts_arts/making_a_planet.html

I suggest you take a brief glance through and try it out. You might like it. If all works out well, you'll be making beautiful celestial pieces of artwork close to the very beauty of the cosmos. Have fun!

Ukyo
30-10-09, 11:12
The stars were all placed in completely random spots, the only ones that I put in definative spots were the large ones. The rest were all a result of ctrl+ and the MSPaint Spraypaint tool.

NeoMan
12-08-10, 16:07
It could just be me, But If I remember correctly, the feat in 8-bit nes megaman always remain on the same level as the ground(excluding jumping and moving). So the first slashes right leg should be brought down a pixel. I see no other problems besides that.

Ukyo
13-08-10, 20:31
So you mean, more like this?
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/3669/ukyo8bit2.png
I didn't know the feet had to be leveled, and that's actually a defensive pose. I probably shouldn't have put it in the same row as the downward slash.

Black

and it fits in the color limit

Megaman...Has split layers. =/

Don Kalypso
14-08-10, 17:55
That may be, but for the sake of not blowing people's minds, let's not split something like Rock into layers.

Ukyo, if the character is indeed a samurai, would it not be feesable to put him into armour and include a tanto and a form of Kyudo attack? You've got his katana and his normal clothing.

Zan Sidera
14-08-10, 18:04
That may be, but for the sake of not blowing people's minds, let's not split something like Rock into layers.

Why not inform people how it actually works? Having the same "amount" of colors as Rock is not what matters here.

Rock is made from two objects, each with a 4 color palette.

Object1 is the body without face.
Object2 is just the face.

The palette for the second object is set in stone;
Transparency, Black, Skintone, White

The palette for the first object follows the following premise:
Transparency, Outline, Primary, Secondary.

That's how it is for the player character in a Rockman game. And the samurai sprite follows that premise.

Hard to see, but true, they are.

Also, I think the faceless/hairless pose is cool too, like some kind of demon puppet or doppelganger!

Ukyo
01-09-10, 12:27
Well I was going for this (http://www.menstuff.org/logos/hakama.jpg) kind of hakama, which when not wrinkled beyond belief, looks flat on the sides. Do you have any tips for making it look more like that?

[fish in space]
01-09-10, 13:58
if you look at that photo, there's almost no shadows on the right side of it. just shade it like you see it. also, you might want to shift the hues on the white part of it, grey is pretty dull.

RyuReiatsu
01-09-10, 21:22
The way the center is shaped, it looks like it's the actual back of it (like a cape, y'know?) You might want to play with that a little too.

Ukyo

The pallates are already set for the game this is for, I can't do much about the colors.

About the third sprite, is that hair or a hat?.

Ukyo

Hat. Eboshi tend to be the same color as wearer's hair, even in real life.

NeoMan
20-09-10, 09:39
Fujiwara Ukyo is great, but he seams overly complicated for this style. In 8 bit megaman, the focus on characters in megaman's size range is not detail, (but just enough detail to telll what it is) nstead it focuses on bright colors.

I'm not sure that made sense the way I said it.
But you get the point right?
your "other people" sheet has the same issue, mostly the armor.

Ukyo
20-09-10, 20:00
I gave up on keeping my comic in 8-bit style a long time ago. I couldn't put the level of detail into it that I wanted. But yeah you're right, I knew that when I made them though.

Ukyo
21-09-10, 02:09
Okay, how does this guy look?
http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/4209/piratez.png
He's supposed to be a Qing dynasty Chinese pirate captain. This time instead of being a Rockman edit he's scratch, and actually 8-bit for a change. I'm not sure if I like his clothing though. I wanted something both sophisticated and simple.

Ukyo
21-09-10, 05:11

Okay, I came up with a second design for him. Which one do you think works better?

BarylTDF
21-09-10, 05:25
I would say the first one is the best, about Fujiwara...don't use Megaman head, instead make a custom one because it's head looks awful with long hair.

Ukyo
21-09-10, 05:36
Yeah, but the problem is he's already in the comic, so there's only so much I can modify him. I think he looks okay when he's in armor though. I might modify the head a bit to show that his hair is actually tied behind his back though.

Ukyo
