View Full Version : Film sequels that should never of been made:

While going through the DVD section in a store, something caught my eye.
Dr. Doolittle. 3.
After the "huh, wha, when did they..." feeling washed over, I looked at the cover and back, and... guess what. No Eddie Murphy. If thats not a sign that a sequel is crap, that the original actors didnt come back, then I don't know what is.
There are several sequels that should never of been made in the first place. (I realise that this list contains several kiddy movies, but thats what comes off the top of my head.)
Lion King 2 springs to mind. While I don't really mind a film switching character focus, it's always a bad sign that its the main character's kid.
Does "Son of the Mask" even need mentioning?
And while the first Spy Kids was actually watchable, its sequels were completely godawful. (For starters, where the hell did this Spy Kid Organisation come from? I don't recall that being in the original..)
So I don't continue lambasting awful kiddy sequels, Terminator 3 deserves a mention. While not exactly awful, it needed to beat or at least equal Terminator 2. Hell, being just below Terminator 2 would've worked. It wasn't, making it a bad movie by it's predecessors.
And don't get me started on the Matrix "lets insert a random sex scene into the middle of the movie with two ugly bald ugly characters that'll annoy everyone who just wants to see a confusing film" sequels.
So.. those are some of my opinions. Those films should never of been made. What other sequels can you think of?

Anything related to Rambo, Rocky, Star Wars, or Indiana Jones. The magic's over, and it was the creators of the series that killed the magic (except Indy, but it's still over because its been far too long for another sequel).
Scary Movie was great...untill they made the sequels. The 2nd one sucked the 3rd one was just plain stupid, and the 4th one? made no sense.
I also have a complaint about the Bionicle series. I admit I watched the first one with my friends brother and the movie sucked but the 2nd one completly was off. It changed time foucus and storyline.
I'll think of some more later...

Agreed on all counts other than the Indy movie, I am REALLY hoping they pull this off.
Terminator 3, Battle Royale 2.....too many to think of.

Star Wars
I dunno, Episode 5 was pretty good, and 1 was watchable. The others? *gag*.
Especially Episode 3 (NOOOOOOO!) and 6 (Ewoks! Wtf?!).
Rambo 3, 1 and 2 were good, 1 being a quite a psycological thing and 2 being an all out action film, but 3.....OH GOD.....terrible, all round terrible.
Oh well, I have hope for Rambo 4 and Rocky 6.
Well I actually did not like the second X-men film.
I only just heard about this Dr. Dolittle 3 yesterday myself, thanks to a big cardboard cut out sitting in WHSmith. The fact it's going direct to DVD is not a good sign either.

Disney sequels.
I mean, wtf? The originals were fine, but a sequel? There's no point in a sequel!

Let's what i've heard so far.
Indiana Jones: 1 to 3 are great. The new movie on its way hasn't got my attention much.
Terminator, Rambo: First two great. Number 3 is a bummer
Star wars prequels: Seemed watchable, cept for 2. Everyone think they're that god awful?
Matrix: I'll agree with peeps saying first is best and 2 and 3 blow, but i'm losing interest in this series anyway so.
Dr Dolittle: 1 and 2 are fine. 3 sounds like they're shooting themselves in the legs.
Spy kids: Is pants with or without the sequels
Scary movie: One and two were alright. Haven't seen 3 or 4.
As for new suggestions, was just discovering it now and thought Back to the future 2 wasn't that special but 3 was a comeback. There was also this godawful King Kong sequel from the 80s that was bollocks.
Batman and Robin anyone? Nah didn't think so either.
Haven't seen 3 or 4.
Don't see #4. It makes no sense, says it has King Kong in it, but is he there? No. It was a big disapointment the whole movie.:g-hmph:

Scary Movie 3's best joke was the one that was left on the cutting room floor.
Unfortunately it was part of an even WORSE ending. Suppose you can't win.
4 doesn't look too hot though, the first two were definately better.

Alien VS Predator, while not really a sequal, was the shittest shit ever shat.
And I will cheesegrate the face of anyone who says predator 2 was shit!

AvP is movie in which they should have done before they were like "Let's do "violent" movies that are more BBFC friendly. The outcome we have to put up with was stale tbh.
And i think Predator 2 was the better out of the two Pred flicks. :g-winky:
Btw i know it's a bit off topic but does anyone remember that Aliens\Predator wannabee called DNA? That was Ker-rap!

Predator 2 - Now theres a good example of a film which doesn't focus on its original cast - yet still managed to be a hell of a film. (Yes, even without Arnie's "GET TO DA CHOPPA" style of dialogue.)
I wish other sequels would learn from it.
The "You're One Ugly.." "MOTHER FUCKARG!" gag was nicely done to boot.
First off, I'm gonna agree on Terminator 3 and the Matrix's, and whatever other movie's I'm too lazy to check back on to mention. Although they had some good action, they were crappy movies.
The second Zorro was horrible. He never even stabs anybody! He's a swordfighter, for crying out loud! They tried to make it more kid friendly, so they used EXPLOSIVES to kill the only baddies who died. I dunno if big booms are more childish than stabbing someone.
The Mummy Returns wasn't too hot. Way too many references to the first movie to be a new experience.
The sequel to the Emperor's New Groove deserves a mention. It's true that no Disney sequel has ever been decent, but this one was a disgrace to the first one. Speaking of Disney, if you attempt to watch George of the Jungle 2, you will die a slow and antagonizing death.
Oh, and there's way too many Jaws movies.

I dunno.. Toy Story 2 anyone? Why true, its not exactly Disney (its Pixar), it was as good as the first. Some people say better than. (Personally, its only downside is the random cringeworthy song in the middle of the movie.)
As for George of the Jungle 2... how on earth could you sequel George of the Jungle one? The story ENDED. Lemme guess, the original actor didn't come back did he?
Dear god don't get me started,
1-Gone with the wind's sequel There words -WHAT THE F*CK
2-Spiderman 2 DEAR GOD WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY ( i mean It wasn't horrabile,but it didn't TOUCH the first)
3-Any of the sequles of the pokemon movies... except three that rocked
4-Spy kids 3-d Sucked
5-Charlie angels full throtle

Oh, forgot about Toy Story 2. That's pretty good. Good job, you've given Disney back a bit of its glory!

Both Brenden Frazier (sp?) and the wife didn't come back. Actually, that was the only humorous part of the movie; the narrarator specifically pointed out that they were too cheap to hire the original actor. Other than that, it was a nightmare. An actual scene was George playing soccer against a bunch of lions that could talk. And there was a kangaroo in the heart of Africa, for crying out loud...

... come again? Do I need my eyes washed?
And there was a kangaroo in the heart of Africa, for crying out loud...
Ok.. maybe I need to scrub my brain, ... WHAT?
1-Gone with the wind's sequel There words -WHAT THE F*CK
They made a sequel to what now? O_o
Yep, you read right. On the second movie there's a poorly animated kangaroo that just happens to live in the jungle with every thing else. As in, the creators of the movie are unaware that kangaroos don't live smack dab in the middle of Africa.
They made a sequel to what now? O_o
Heh, I asked my mom what some horrible sequels were, and she mentioned a second Gone With the Wind. Why you would need a second Gone With the Wind is beyond me.

Sadly, not all movies are truly accurate in certain details.
George Of the Jungle 1 wasn't even that good to start with. Apart from John Cleese. He, in my view, was the saving grace of that movie. George of the Jungle 2? Never heard of it, though what I've heard doesn't harbour much hope for it.
And in my view, most sequels are pointless/rubbish/WTF affairs anyway (apart from GOOD sequels such as Toy Story 2 and The Lord Of The Rings 2 and 3, which rocked totally).
They made a sequel to what now? O_o
Sadly yes, they did,and I cried over and over again...
The original Mortal Kombat was a pioneer in video game/movie relationships, but the 2nd Mortal Kombat? Good gawd... x_x Also, I'm not sure why I remember this, but Problem Child 3 was terrible as well, mostly because (nearly) all of the original actors were replaced.
My brother also mentioned how horrible Starship Troopers 2 was. My dad and I are fans of the first movie, and he advised us to never watch the sequel. We have taken his advice.
Oh yeah, there's Home Alone 3, 4, and I think they just came out with a 5. None of which feature any of the original cast. I only saw the 3rd, but it had almost no original material; tons of the jokes were pulled right from the first two movies. And it sucked.

Yeah, Home Alone 3 was rather lame. They have a Home Alone 4? :g-O_o:

Had Starship Troopers 2 not been Starship Troopers, it would've made a nice low budget horror movie.
How-ever, do take your friend's advise - its pretty horrible for a SciFi.
Effect shots DIRECTLY pulled from the first film, actors not even on screen at the same time as the few amount of bugs in the film, crappy shooting, none of the original cast.
Yeah, as a Sci-Fi it was crap. Without any of teh sci-finess, it would've made a great B-Movie.

Wandering through the thread and I am shamed even to admit this but i've SEEN pretty much every movie mentioned.
AvP; Had they gone for the R rating it would've had potential, but as it stands no...just NO
Jason X; Jason, in space! Cheap CHEAP acting that reminded me of late eighties/early ninties slasher flicks/random teen hornieness. In fact I think they were intentionally making it a parody of all the other jason films since, y'know, you have to find new ways of milking a dead cash cow.
Freddy V Jason: The one part I actually liked was Freddy's narration at the begaining. Interesting concept really, but again it suffers from horrindus acting(gee, there's a serial killer on the loose, RAVE IN THE WOODS!).
Bride of chucky: Major WTFage here. However its saving grace, to those that've seen the other child's play movies or slasher flicks in genral will find some of the jokes funny(skip through the scene with chucky and that girl together though*gag*).
Hellraiser's 3-whatever number it's at now:
The seconed one was the only good sequel here, it took the Lamant configuration to new levels(and, GASP, pinhead being more than simply an agent of hell/whatever). The rest were gussied up morality plays.
I'll think of more later.

The one good point of Freddy v Jason was that some of the deaths were cool.
(Ok, one of the deaths was cool. Getting bent in half in your bed rocked.)
Other than that - it sucked. Just because the storyline focuses on Freddy and the deaths are given to Jason - doesn't mean they recieve equal focus. Jason seemed to out-weigh Freddy at every instance. Shame, I prefer Freddy.
I got it for around £3. It was still a waste of money.
Also - Star Trek 5: Final Frontier.
What. Where. They. Thinking.
The Star Trek crew go off to find God. They reach the center of the universe within an very short time period hour. God turns out to be random "I'm a big uber lifeform but gets beaten by humanity anyway."
Bah.
anndd..
Star Trek 10: Nemesis.
(Yes, im a trekky. Yes, we have all the movies. And yes, we regret owning this and the one above)
What kicks you in the nads about this one is that it could've been a very, very awesome movie.
One slight cast change could've made it so much better.
They have a clone of the main character (Captain Picard).
Who plays the clone? No, not Patrick Stewart (that would be far too smart and awesome.), but some actor no-one's heard of, and can't act - and doesn't even have a British accent.
It sounds something tiny - but it's not. It ruins a movie with some great moments in it. (Half of the Bridge getting torn off and people flying out into space is great.)
Finally - Alien v Predator.
The one thing that comes to mind is the "I R TEH MAtRIX - THAR IS NO SPOon!" facehuggers about halfway through the movie. Bad. Movie.
And it was a 12. A. 12. How the hell can you have an Alien or Predator movie thats a 12?!

The Highlander 2, why would Connor need to be killed to begin with?
Pirates of the Caribbean 2, It was just a set up for the third movie.
I'll probably think of more latter.

zunnnnn.....topic revival. I'd warn if i could, but, yeah, topic revival / necroposting doesn't exist yet.
Anyway, star wars ep 3 was crap. The game saved it a bit though.

Did you know there were 2 sequels to Psycho? Not to mention the remake... I can't speak for the 3rd, or it's critically and publicly bashed remake, but I've seen the 2nd. And it really isn't anything special. Not even a smidge as scary or smart as the Hitchcock classic.
Tomb Raider 2 anyone? Or Resident Evil: Apocalypse? Gawd, video game-movies suck.

House of the Dead 2. It's a SciFi channel movie, and apparently, it sucks. But to be fair, the first one sucked too. Actually, any Uwe Boll movie is destined to be crap, and yet people still give him the licenses!!! I mean, FAR CRY?!
All the DBZ movies besides Movies 8 and up.
Complete bullfuckingshit! Yes I am a fan of DBZ, but I do have reasons. (Mostly teh games and the big wuvble guy named Broly, =D)
all the harry potter movies

Stewart little three I can tell gets like an 80 jillion on the suck-ometer. They didn't even get past the low res part of production! It's friggin cel shading! What the hell! style of animation in the first two boring you*insert name of people who made stewart little*? I haven't seen it and i never will unless someone ties me to a chair and forces my eyes open.
Sound of Music sequal? The IMDB can't even find it!
Son of Mask comes to mind, so does Lawnmower Man 2, Jaws: The Revenge, The NeverEnding Story III and lets not forget Police Academy: Mission to Moscow.
I could go on all day. There are so many bad sequals.
Good timing,I wanted to say
A sequel to saturday night fever...WHY,GOD,WHY!?!?!

I liked Star Wars, every one of them. Anyway, soon they'll probably be making "The Princess Bride 2" with an entirely different cast from the first, the same fighting choreography, the same story, and the same jokes... sigh.
