Okay, what the fuck.
The end might end tomorrow, people, and no thread opened about it?
This demands a thread opening.
And a festival.
Also, if the world DOES end tomorrow, I will laugh my pants off, as ironically I'm playing TWEWY.
P.S.: If heaven or hell exist, and the world ends tomorrow, go straight and right to meet me. I made a promise I'll wait there if Heaven or Hell exist, to wait for all my friends.
P.S.S.: I don't really beleive tomorrow the world will end, but then again, no one does, and back where I live, everyone laughs as they think this is the last day alive.
P.S.S.S.: If someone has no idea what I'm talking about, I'll explain after homework.
Was there some kind of prediction the world will end on 10-9-08? Or is it just because it spells 10-9-8?
Seriously, I don't get it at all.
P.S:How will you laugh if you're dead?
If this is the Hadron collider thing, I know about it, and half the people in my school know too, and there scared.
Pft. The end coming tomorrow? Possibly, but unlikely. =P
The we will finnaly see if DBZ was right!
I HIGHLY doubt it.. Unless I'm missing something here..

@Boilman: No, theres an experiment going on. They;re trying to launch an atom at the speed of light from Sweden to france, and they predict it will open a dark hole that may kill us all.
So we're suiciding in a painful, deadly, and scientific way.
Also, how am I going to laugh? A dark hole won't kill us instantly. Atleast I don't think so. So I'll have several minutes to laugh at irony in the face, and then do what I want before the end of the world.
@HZ:Hadron what? Is that the experiment I'm talking about? =/
@Saki: Psssh. I don't beleive either, but hey, its fun imagining.
@Blackhook: wot?
@Kaldeon: I think you are.
Yeah I'm missing stuff! What experiment? What're they doing? Huh? I thought this was about The World Ends With You? Did if move to DBZ then RL?

...Wot.
No! the world will probably end, and I'm playing TWEWY, so its ironic.
Kaldeon, they're launching an atom from Sweden to france, while france launches 1 to sweden, at the same time at the speed of light. The collision should open a dark hole, but thats an experiment. If it does, chances are we're screwed.
...
.......
That means I'm gonna die a day before my birthday. Oh bollocks.
But seriously I highly doubt its gonna be the end of the world, i mean we still have loads more things to discover and fuck up.
Didn't Stephen hawkins say its the end of the world and the papers took it seriously.
I'll have fun laughing at the people who really think the world will end tomorrow as I continue not caring about something another human predicted (or whatever).
Wait, what?
People still seriously think the Large Hadron Collider will kill us all?
Bullcrap. If for any reason a black hole pops up that threatens to absorb the Earth, then I will personally come to your house and let you stab me in the back after givin you all my money, valuables, and everythnig else I can imagine, even if the threatening Black Hole will prove not to eat up every single atom of this planet.

I'm with Zy on this one.
I believe that the world will end when it ends and there's no point worrying about people trying to predict it.
Reading this might help those who don't know about it. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Hadron_Collider)

I don't beleive it, but hey, its fun laughing at those who do, and its fun noticing the irony.
And then theres the point no one mentioned this... So yeah.
Also boilman, I can't see any flights taking place during the last day on earth. :P
EDIT: Not including a 1 way trip to a dark hole.
EDIT 2: paid by that experiment. =3
We are promised that if a darkhole would appear that it would be small wouldn't be dangerous. /endpanic

You're all stupid.
No, don't argue. You're all idiots, and I'm downright disgusted at this perpetuation of such a despisable ignorance.
There isn't enough energy on Earth for the LHC to destroy the Earth. The whole planet could be converted directly into energy, and it still wouldn't be enough to destroy itself.
Stop fearing what you don't understand, you xenophobic fools. Especially these days, when you actually have the resources to learn. You have no excuse for your irrationality.
Zyros says:
And please quote me in your post
Zyros says:
"You're idiots. Every last one of you."
...So what was the meaning of this Sian?
Oh and the chances that you get hit by a car next time you will go shopping are far higher than this (Several million times) so better watch out for cars hitting you from behind than for dark holes.
I, honestly, never believed that the end of the world will happen in one day.

That is true just as much as I am you great Aunt uwfioerngouergnoerngoi.
In other words. That can't happen. Mostly the black hole part. And what the freak is TWEWY?
And what the freak is TWEWY?The World Ends With You.
The closest I got to fearing the world ending due to that was discussing all the practical uses of a miniature black hole around the home.

If the sun was suddenly replaced by a black hole of equal mass, the solar system would be fine, other than the lack of sunlight, because it's event horizon would be less than 3 kilometers.Black holes don't just magically suck up everything, you know. A micro-black hole would literally be harmless.
Lol Tox, nice thread name change. :^D
And I'm sure this thread's been covered before in a previous thread, rite?

Not really.
Also, Thanks for being so nice, Because I do beleive that I'm going to die today, and you're all helping me understand that it isn't that bad. Because you're not acting like complete assholes
In all honesty, I never beleived this, but this conversation is fun to me, all right? Plus, theres an option of that happening, so yeah, why not notice the irony? Because acting and thinking is for dumb people?
Before someone says yes to the last sentance, fuck you. I'm almost as serious as I sound right now.
Also Zyros, it's not like you aren't stupid. Now you say youaren't, and because I'm not a mod/don't save logs, I'll never be able to prove it and then you'll make me look like a complete retard infront of everyone in flashchat. Aren't you now?

That's incorrect, they are going to cross to proton beams deep under ground. If any black holes appear, the'll be sub-atomic and most likly vasnish instantly.
The whole planet could be converted directly into energy, and it still wouldn't be enough to destroy itself.
I sincerely hope you were joking.
The mass of the earth according to google is 5.9742x1024, if you could convert the whole of the earth into pure energy, that would output, E=mc2=(5.9742x1024)*(299 792 458)2=5.36934319×1041 joules.
The bomb on Hiroshima according to this page (http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2000/MuhammadKaleem.shtml) had 63 Tera Joules or 6.3x1013 Joules of energy
If the earth were to somehow spontaneously be turned into pure energy, it would be the equivalent of 165,950,000,000 of the bombs dropped on Hiroshima.
*End extremely nerdy rant*
I was watching the live webcast and I either got the time wrong or someone knocked the camera off the stand I was watching something that wasn't the LHC. All in all it was quite dissappointing. Also if there was going to be a black hole being formed, I would be relatively unharmed since I'm so far away from it :P Although we would run out of oxygen relatively quickly.
The whole panic started when some dude calculated the micro blackholes could merge together and form a not-so-micro black hole, but the chances of that happening was calculated to be 1 in 1040, which is 1 in 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 ,000
To the mass media this spelled out DOOM OMG WTF!!!
EDIT: For the uninformed, Brian Cox (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6uKZWnJLCM&eurl=http://web.me.com/omar.barraza/www.CERNconcern.com/Join_the_Conversations/Entries/2008/8/16_CERN_Explains_the_Experiment_files) is a very good source of sweet sweet knowledge. Or if that is too heavy for you, try the LHC rap (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j50ZssEojtM), not sure how accurate the rap is because I only watched half of it before something in my brain snapped and I had to close the window.

@HZ: Wot? 40 days?
@Fuzion: Thanks for informing me. All I know is from my friends.
Also, I said sweden instead of switzer land, which no one noticed.
And dual, that is one hell of a nerdy moment. I was at school during that time, so we couldnt watch it D:
Fun fact. Humans have made mini black holes for years now.
Also... How are they moving something with mass at the speed of light? Doesn't that take far too much energy?
Also, Since they are using protons, They will be positively charged black holes. Surrounded by magnets. See where I'm going with this?
If not let me throw some physics in. Magnetism is a stronger force than gravity. Therefore if one of those mini-black holes got out of hand they could just reverse the polarity and rip the mini black holes to freaking shreds.

Listen to dualR. He actually knows what he's saying.
I think he might have misunderstood me, but he knows what he's saying. :P
You didn't look hard enough TSRM. There was a thread on the second page about this. (http://www.sprites-inc.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=6765)
Anyways, there is only a small chance that a black hole the size of a proton will appear and disappear for less than a second. There is no need for worry. Any dangers were accounted for, otherwise it wouldn't be 100 meters underground and be vacant at the time it was turned on. But we already discussed.
@HZ: Wot? 40 days? The protons won't collide now. Accordibng to the site:It planned to circulate the first beams 10th Septmeber 2008. First collissions at high energy are expected about a month later with the first results of the experiment soon after.
Also, my whole day basically involved facepalming and explaining people that they were not firing nuclear weapons, and that they were not making a world-absorbing black hole.
Fun fact. Humans have made mini black holes for years now.
[citation needed]
Also... How are they moving something with mass at the speed of light? Doesn't that take far too much energy?
Electromagnets, yes, shitloads of energy, that's why they're doing it in Europe and not in America. Its not just the electrons being sped up, they're also having the chamber colder than outer space, so superconductors are needed to take out the heat so to speak. Lots and lots of energy. The protons are sped up mainly in a circular chamber, an electromagnetic force is pulsed at strategic times, an analogy would be pushing a child on a swing, if you're pushing at the right time the child will go faster than if you pushed at the wrong time with the same amount of force
On a sidenote: Micro black hole analogs that are could possibly maybe be made in the LHC are not the same as normal gravitational black holes. The details I'm not actually too sure of because the information about it just confuses me.
Also, Since they are using protons, They will be positively charged black holes. Surrounded by magnets. See where I'm going with this?
What are positively charged black holes? I've never heard of them. Also, if you get a blue plastic ball with some unknown contents and throw them at another seemingly identical blue plastic ball, they break open, do you just assume that what's inside will be blue too?
If not let me throw some physics in. Magnetism is a stronger force than gravity. Therefore if one of those mini-black holes got out of hand they could just reverse the polarity and rip the mini black holes to freaking shreds.
See... If you had a "positively charged black hole" then what you'd be cancelling out would be the positive electromagnetic force, not the puny gravitational force a micro black hole would have anyway. Gravity doesn't have a charge.

All I got out of this is...
A) We're not going to kill ourselves off with science (yet).
B) The LHC is not going to kill us.
C) LHC may also mean Light-Hearted Comedy
D) Microscopic Blackholes are no danger what so ever.
E) That I learned something new two days ago.
Basically, I didn't know about this contraption until two days ago, and I understood it wasn't going to kill us the first time I read the article.
However you look at it, we're going to learn something new from all of this. As to what? We don't know. I wonder if a White Hole is possible...

Please do not tell me this is a thread about fear of dying from a blackhole.
If you embrace death you'll live a much happier life.
Stop being paranoid!
I wonder what type of leap in technology this will be? It might have almost no affect yet, thing of the energy those protons will release, maybe the first step of laser technology? Wait.. It has mass right? What if it appeared at it's destination, unchanged? Wouldn't that be like teleporting?
Err... I just heard that from a friend who heard that in highschool. I'll do some more looking into it.
As for the positively charged black hole, Its only a hypothesis that sorta goes like: Since black holes have mass they can be given a positive charge. Therefore magnets could attract and repel them (Once given a charge) or even torn apart by them, possibly making it possible to retreave matter from them. No canceling involved, just tearing something apart by attracting different parts of it. (In hindsight... It's more likely to just move the black hole).
As more the blue ball analogy... I would expect some of the pieces to at least have blue on it. At least something has to make the ball blue.
But doesn't something gain near infinite mass near to lightspeed thus requiring infinite energy? My physics could be off here.
Hmm.. I do understand the near infinite mass and infinite energy being related part, but what about near light speed= near infinite mass? Would it be the speed stretching the stuff? I'll admit it, I'm not THAT far in science.
Kal: Basically Einstein discovered the energy IS mass, they are interchangeable, hence E=mc2, this is the basis for Nuclear Fission. When you break apart what was holding the Nucleus together, its lost mass gets released into energy.
As for the acceleration to 99.9999% the speed of light, I'm not too sure how much energy they're using, it's even going so far as adding mass to the protons because theres no way for the protons to go any faster, the added energy turns into mass. Again, not entirely sure how they're getting it so fast, but the protons are going through a linear acceleration tunnel then 2 or 3 synchotrons (this is where the main acceleration happens, refer back to the swing analogy) before even reaching the main LHC tunnel. You just have to remember that energy and mass are related, and because the proton weighs so little it would use relatively much less energy to accelerate the proton than to accelerate a person or a car or a plane.
Some 16 year old Girl killed herself over fear of this thing

I know, its not a funny thing. But WTF? why kill yourself if your going to die anyways? I would rather watch the world explode than kill myself.
Then I would know whats inside a black hole.
There's nothing inside a black hole. It's not a hole. No one wonders what happens when you ram yourself headfirst into a wall or fall from outer space into a planet. A black hole is a very heavy thing that has lots of gravity, that's it really.
Also, while the girl's death is tragic, I can't help but blame the media, even in that news report it says that the girl killed herself after being bombarded with news about the LHC about to destroy the world. The oft-quoted "The LHC will replicate the big-bang" is entirely untrue, but quite believable if you don't read into it, to be honest when I first heard of the LHC this is what I thought they were doing, but what is actually happening is that the LHC will replicate the conditions present a billionth of a second after the big bang supposedly occurred. It sounds much less hyped up this way and I guess that's why the news doesn't report the facts.
After reading that article I felt saddened that a country with quite a large number of scientists directly involved with CERN (not sure of the actual number, saw it in a presentation a while ago) has such a horrible report of the whole thing

Let me set something straight.
With Earth's Current technology the possiblity of a blackhole appearing from this experement is a far off shot.
We can't create enough power for the machine to speed the protons fast enough or charge them enough to create black holes, were aout a thousand years from that.
http://www.cyriak.co.uk/lhc/lhc-webcams.html
Besides that link, I really wonder what people are thinking could go wrong. They should really do research before making stupid assumptions.
And tough it's a sad case, I am also talking about the girl that committed suicide.
all i want to say it's "I dont want to die yet". as for the indian girl, kinda sorry, but if the world is going toend in that way, too sad, i wish for the world to end getting BOOM! by a bomb or something.
but if they success, we can go to space! utopia!!! evas :)!!!! gundams maybe?
I don't see how suicide, likely a somewhat painful one since the girl was probably nervous and unsure, is better than being crushed almost instantly. But I bet she just heard that the world would end, and not much else. Hopefully people won't get the same way when the collision actually happens. I still can't believe how many people thought the world would end.
Baryl: What? We have gone into space, the word utopia is redundant, EVAs are, well pretty much giant humans with armour that controls them, to an extent, and unrealistic to boot, and mobile suits are more realistic, but still outright useless if made. Unless you can make a perfect balancing system for 18 meter tall robots that can also withstand the fire from a tank.

Well that's frankly something really true, why humans would need giant robots if they don't want to expend money rebuilding cities and other things?
I really don't believe any of this end of the world crap (and to explain why, I'd be breaking the "no religous talk" rule) so really, I'm not worried at all. And the girl...that's just sad on so many levels. In my opinion, she killed herself for nothing. Which is what makes it sadder. The world is just all messed up these days.
I just realized something.
To prove the big bang theory would be proving EVERY religion wrong.
Yes. EVERY SINGLE RELIGION.
If you are going to go and blatantly violate this forum's policies and attempt to offend the most people that you possibly could with a single, presumptuous statement, at least make sure that it isn't a complete fallacy.
HZ EDIT:Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone, or start a flame war.
I love the horribly stupid reactions people have to LHC. There's a bigger chance of you getting struck by lightning than there is of it making a black hole, but I don't see anyone staying inside for fear of being zapped.
And the biggest threat from a particle accelerator are strangelets, which LHC has an even less chance of creating than the current particle accelerators that are being used all around the world.
So don't feel bad for people who kill themselves out of fear that the machine will cause a black hole. They are stupid and ignorant and don't deserve your pity.
To prove the big bang theory would be proving EVERY religion wrong.
Yes. EVERY SINGLE RELIGION. THIS IS INSANE! THIS IS CRAZY! THIS IS MADNESS!
Considering the forum-wide ban on religious discussion, I can't give you exact details, but I can very much welcome you to the wonderful land of being incredibly wrong.

Yes. While it would suck to die painfully as we are being spaghettied into a black hole for all eternity, it would all be worthwhile because we'd have just a few minutes of laughing at how badly France just got owned.
