I'm sure you all remember the flash site made in honor of the third installment of the Zx series, right? If you don't, let me refresh your memory:
RockMan Zx Access File (http://www.rockmanpm.com/i/flash/rmzxaf.html)
I'm sure by now you've seen the "April Fools" next to the Japanese logo.
Yes, as depressing as it may sound, this great game never came into fruition due to the fact it wasn't by Capcom or Inticreates at all, but because it was being produced by RockMan Perfect Memories to fool with all you fans.
I must say, the revamped characters and their awesome new attacks were amazingly sprited, and definitely did look official. On top of that, they did a good job of emulating the way Capcom would have handled this game, and brought about some interesting new surprises we'd all love to enjoy.
For example; a game where you can play as the Big4 in its own right is a game worth playing, beyond all the rest of the cool stuff this had to offer.
Well, obviously since this is a MegaMan game, whether or not by Capcom, I thought it'd be nice if someone ripped the sprites for us to use. You can probably guess by now that no one has ripped them for us.
So, I took matters into my own hands, and have ripped some for you:
IMAGES REMOVED BY BLACKBELTDUDE.
Keep in mind that these sprites are in bad quality due to the fact they really weren't by Capcom, but their spritesmanship is still pretty close to being real. The only other problem was that they were rendered with their backgrounds in place, and the background was shaded around them to make the sprites look better. So, when I ripped the sprites out, and put them on a transparent background, they end up looking worse than they really are here in SI.
Another problem is that you've probably noticed how Atlas and Aeolus' feet are messed up in several frames, but the new female Thetis' seem perfect. That's because Thetis went behind a solid blue frame made transparent in order to give the appearance of being under-water. This wasn't a problem, because that layer only ended up giving Thetis a new palette.
The others however...in several frames...appeared to be standing in what I can only describe as "multi-colored-urine", which not only gave the characters a new palette (which isn't hard to work around) but also distorted all of the shading that existed on the parts that were under this "water".
So, in order to keep their original quality, and not tamper with the rips so that they are accurate, I have not recolored or reshaded those areas.
I have simply seperated those areas for you to recolor and reshade yourself.
Personally, I'd like to just go in and fix it on my own, but then it wouldn't be ripping, would it? No, it would just be me spriting new sprites based off them.
So, they are untampered with, and I really wish I could fix it, but I won't.
Up next I'll be doing Siarnaq of course, as well as some background tiles.
(P.S. These are not site rips. I was able to download the flash file and rip them from that. If you don't believe me, take a screenshot, and compare the rips. You'll find pretty quickly (especially with Aeolus) that they're real rips)
Also, I wanted to make it more official by including the color palette, but the sprites are over the limit. And when I say "over the limit", I really mean "WAY over the limit". It's not even funny. Just a few sprites in and I realized it was going to take a very long time to categorize all these colors.
As stated previously, to keep their original quality in tact, I have not altered the palettes from how they originally were. But I will be posting seperate sheets later on of the exact same things ripped with the right palettes.
(EDIT)-Also, something I was hoping for...
It's a fool's dream, but I was hoping that Zx Access File could get its own link in the Zx section. I say this because the MmZ section has CvS sprites of Zero that didn't come from the Zero series, and the Bn section has Boktai sprites that didn't come from the Bn games.
Therefore, in my mind, it made sense to include Zx Access File sprites under the "Zx section" even though the sprites didn't come from any Zx game.
I'd like to know the opinions of the moderating team and ACE on this matter.
A big thanks to the great team at RmPm that created this wonderful game I wished would become a reality. If I knew who the individuals were who drew the amazing character art, and sprited so many cool attacks, then I'd gladly thank each individual for their effort. But alas, I do not know who did these.
What I do know is that these sprites might be able to help you spriters create some more unique character designs based off of the characters already made by Capcom in the Zx games, and it'll definitely help you with creating new custom attacks.
And when I finish ripping the backgrounds, I'm sure you'll enjoy those as well.
