View Full Version : Castlevania: Judgement?
http://gonintendo.com/?p=47669
I'm hoping it plays kinda like a Castlevania boss rush, where one is beating the crap out of a boss (Well trying to) throughout the stage rather than beating the boss at the end. And it controls like a castlevania, with the fighter game style
Also Hoping ALL playable charectors throughout the whole series show up as playable, Plus a few playable boss monsters.
Death will show up its inevitable as he always does. Hopefully playble.
Also a WTF is required here.

I can't wait to see how it connects with the DS game. Maybe it'll unlock some characters in the DS version, and some in the Wii game? Should be awesome.

Shanoa is playable in this game as seen in earlier scans of Order of Ecclesia there was a Wii trade thingy. So I think Shanoa is unlockable by DS - Wii connection.
@BBD - I will kill for more characters in DS version if we can get them from Wii one.
The very next thing may be a Castlevania shooter. I don't think I'll buy this one.
A Castlevania shooter?? That'd be downright awkward... Unless it works like Hexxen THEN maybe it might work.

This one has some definite possibilities, aside from the fact that it is an entirely different genre of gaming. Its the usual, don't knock it 'til you try it.
And no, there would be no point for a Castlevania FPS, that would be far, FAR worse than a fighter in the realm of genre butchery.
They could pull off an FPS with a few eras of castlevania. Heck I think CoM had a side scrolling shooter mode.
Now if they wanted to butcher the genre they'd make an american football sports game out of the series. Which would be bought just so one could mock the sheer idiocy of the concept.
Now for my hopeful list of playable monsters (So far):
Death (With alt costumes),
Medusa,
Dullahan,
Skull knight,
Succubus,
Axe armor,
Any skeleton,
Nemesis,
Merman,
Flea Armor,
Creature,
Graham

There are a few more you could tack on to that, like Joachim from Lament of Innocence, or the lunatic demon-smith from Curse of Darkness.
I don't know if you guys know this, but the artist Takeshi Obata is designing the characters for this game. He did the art for Hikaru no Go and Death Note.
Edit- Look, it's Misa Amane (http://www.gamekyo.com/Webmasters/Images/72361520080627_010253_2_big.jpg) and Light Yagami (http://www.gamekyo.com/Webmasters/Images/72361520080627_005352_3_big.jpg)! XD
This actually looks...fun. =D

Now they only need to add that after the bossī defeat the player getīs his ability......wait a SECOND!

Actually, I'm pretty sure the logic is, "Poor sales on something experimental, means no more experiments."
This does look fun though, and the idea of a 3rd party using Wii to DS connectivity rocks. Plus, who wouldn't want to see Richter (who MUST be in the game) fight Simon? You could even redo the Alucard vs Richter fight from SoTN.
My only complaint would be the designs for some characters aren't nearly as cool as Kojima's. Honestly, I really don't like Alucard's. Simon's is OK. And Dracula's isn't that good either... I hope Kojima's designs are alternate costumes.
They did say monsters would interfere in battle.
So there may be a chance of medusa heads weaving causing problems.
I just hope you can kick them at people.
Maybe even punt them and possible the fleamen.
I wonder if the "Story" mode will end with a transformed dracula boss or just Dracula.
They could always do Round 1 Dracula/Round 2 True Dracula.
They could always do Round 1 Dracula/Round 2 True Dracula.
Or they could do it Tekken 3 style. One fight as Dracula, then you fight him again, as his true form.

Well, even with 'alternate costumes'... you can see that they've changed the characters' faces in overall *look at Alucard's hairstyle + face*... So, they'd still look pretty different from Kojima's versions.

There are alternate colors but i don't know about alternate costumes
here's a link to the official site:

it shows that there is a new character named Aeon, who use's a clock and a sword combined. here's his picture:

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this Aeon guy is the one behind all this time-shifting mess. I mean, he has got a clock and a clock-based weapon. :/
Also, Eric Lecarde and Death comfirmed. Eric looks a lot like Dracula X Chronicles' Maria, and Death uses a scythe(do'h) and looks awesome as usual.
Here is a screenshot with both of them:

Eric Lecarde looks nothing like he should, In my opinion, but whatever.
And what little can be discerned of Death looks awesome.
Also, about the character Aeon... Something interesting to note - there's apparently also a character in Order of Ecclesia named Aeon. We haven't gotten a look at him, though, just that.. his name appears.
Which makes me wonder - could he be related to St. Germain in some way, or atleast, a similar type of character?
I'm guessing this Aeon guy played a key role in bringing everyone together for this brawlfest...
Site updated, a new character named Shaona.
Yea, I don't doubt that. I mean, Shanoa is the main char in the new DS Castlevania coming out.
While many people are skeptical of this game, I think it deserves a chance. Granted, Konami may not have much experience with fighters, but they did make Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters for the SNES. That beauty alone warrants that every and any fighting game they make should get a nice long look before being cast aside.
Another site update, This time they have two new characters named Golem and Carmilla. Plus some Screenshots and a Trailer.

As time goes on, this game just keeps going further and further down on my "To Buy" list. To the point that I don't really want it, at all. Bad enough that they've altered fan-favorite characters, but now they're throwing in fanservice.
Oy.
Terry von Feledae
21-10-08, 07:50
It technically makes sense for Carmilla to be all fanservice-like, considering her nature(and this comes from me, of all people!). However, this is instantly ruined by the JRPG-esk overliberal application of spikes and other bling and what the hell were they thinking anyway Carmilla was supposed to be a noble. Golem looks pretty nice though, but I don't exactly understand his inclusion in the character roster considering there are more representative enemy choices like skeleton and merman and ones better fit for a fighting game like werewolf or the creature.
But seriously, what were they thinking during the character design? If they already were to throw the great character designs of the Castlevania games into a fire, couldn't they at least hire someone who knows what each character is even supposed to be?
Now I'm just holding my fingers crossed that Soma doesn't appear in the game.
I thought they said he would though... I'm already saddened enough looking at Shanoa's new design.
Blackbeltdude
30-10-08, 03:14
Well, Trevor (http://kotaku.com/photogallery/casjudge1028/1004240071) was announced a day or so ago, and I think his design is pretty good. I'd like to get a better look at it, but he's not up on their site (http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/dracula_wii/).
Frankly, I wish Ayami Kojima was the one doing the designs. Obata's designs look too much like his characters... and I could overlook that if it was just one character or something. But come on. Eric and Simon have the same hair, and so do Shanoa and Carmilla (maybe a minor complaint, but still). To Obata's credit though, I think characters that are part otherworldly look pretty good and distinct. Death is really different, but I don't hate it... I'd still much rather see a more classic looking one of course. Golem looks pretty cool too... and even Dracula has an air of otherworld about him, which is nice to see.
Or why not use the designer and artist who did Ecclesa's art? I like that guy's Dracula design more than Kojima's really...
Nintendo Power also reported a few more characters... Sypha Belnades, Grant Danasty, and Werewolf Cornell. I never played Castlevania 3, but what did Grant do in that game? He made cameos as a Zombie in SotN (I think) and in PoR (I think) but all he did was crawl on the ceiling...
Richter better be in the game if Grant gets to be in. :P I'd also like to see Soma Cruz in the game to a lesser extent...
Depending on which version of III, Grant:
Japan: was boss, threw knife, threw axe, climbed walls and ceilings.
US: was boss, stabbed people, threw knife, threw axe, climbed walls and ceilings.
You know, I don't understand why some people are already bashing this game just because of the CHARACTER DESIGNS.
I actually LIKE what they've done with Dracula and Alucard. Though, I'm a bit surprised that they reverted Maria from her adult self in SoTN to the young teen she was in Dracula X.

You know, I don't understand why some people are already bashing this game just because of the CHARACTER DESIGNS.
Because we haven't played it yet, and that's all there is for us to bash until we play it. :P
But the character designs are very important since you're going to be seeing them constantly (especially in a fighting game). I don't think Castlevania's character designs are as consistent as say, Mario's or even Zelda's, but these are still pretty different from what people are used to seeing.
We're bashing Obata's work because Kohima's is better.
RyuReiatsu
02-11-08, 21:15
Personally, I can't tell whether the game's going to be good or not.
But come one people, you have to admit most of the new designs are eyesores.
Look at Shanoa, I mean...she doesn't look human, she's got short hair, she doesn't look like any fighter... They could've changed the name to "Zombie Maid" and nobody would've suspected it was her.
And looking at Trevor and Simon's design, they look too alike IMO.
They've got the same clothes, well, almost.
And seriously... they aren't 'new designs', they're just new characters with the same names...that's what I think.
Their is another update. This time two characters Ralph Belmont and Grant Dynasty.
http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/dracula_wii/
...
Great. Grant goes from pirate to mummy... That guy on Captain Commando's team pops to my mind all of a sudden... *brrrrrrrrr*
Terry von Feledae
12-11-08, 03:47
They... they murdered him. D:
Also, who the hell is Ralph? Froma GB game? And why do those designers have such a creepy obsession with belts?
Ralph is Trevor Belmont's Akumajo Dracula name actually. Most of the DN Death Gods had lotsa buckles on them so I guess that's his nick-nack with belts...
Obviously this is the cursed boss grant version rather than the actual playable one. But still... What the heck?
Although, the new charector designs may translate better in 3-D rather than artwork.

No Soma ? T_T
Given Soma IS Drac, he might be an unlockable character instead of a readily available one... then again, I kinda don't wanna see what he'd look like given every single fashion disaster (aside from Aeon) the characters went though atm...

Well, I actually bought the game on Wednesday, and I have to say that I like it.
All the characters are different enough with their attacks to keep the game from getting too repetitive (though, Castle mode is pretty repetitive either way). Some characters will say something different depending on who they're talking to (much more noticeable in story mode), but for the most part they say either 1 or 2 different lines before and after a fight (which can be irritating). Sometimes when they talk, like to Aeon, it's clear that they're not actually talking to him. Aeon's speech is always the same, and the other characters' accommodate his.
Overall, the voice acting isn't too bad.
For the most part, I think the characters are also pretty balanced. Maria has some really annoying moves though; huge range and damage. Dracula can also be really hard, since he does massive damage in a 2 hit combo, can set down traps (which can be hard to see if he's standing next to them) and sometimes he'll use this fire pillar move. If you can't get away from the fire pillar move, or Dracula doesn't stop, then you'll die (it's practically impossible to get away).
But, Maria isn't that bad, as long as you block her attacks; it's really important to block in this game. Blocking attacks helps add balance, since they're usually pretty vulnerable after their attacks.
As far for secret characters... there's two spaces on character select screen with question marks. I'm guessing they're for Death and Dracula. So, odds are good that Soma and Richter aren't in the game (Maria mentions Richter in some dialog though).
Playing with the Wii remote is "OK." You have to waggle for everything except to use sub weapons and your super move. It can be pretty irritating considering a button press would be faster. I've yet to try the classic controller, but I will. Moves are easy to do though.
If anyone has any questions, I'll try to answer them.

It's funny that you quoted that post, and yet missed that part. :P
I think you have to have OoE and connect it to your Wii for Soma.
I think, I'm not sure, though.
EDIT: I forgot to ask, I know it's Classic Controller Compatible, but is the GameCube Controller Compilable as well?
EDIT2: Wait, I phail, I got Soma and Shanoa mixed up.
I know nothing about the Castlevania series.
Hmmm... Does that mean you can give us a somewhat tier list based on your hands-on experience, BBD? Given there are 2 whip crackers in the game now, I'd like someone's opinion on how they move differently...
Blackbeltdude
22-11-08, 03:54
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can use the GCN controller, Rags.
Tiers are lame, Galeon. :P
But from what I've observed so far from playing, if your character has a ranged weapon, you'll have an easier time of fighting.
Cornell is really cool; fun to play as, cause he's a wolf and stuff. But when you fight someone like Maria, it's hard to get in a hit sometimes because a lot of her attacks don't have big start up times, and have a long reach (but if you block them, you've got a free hit).
Shanoa is probably the best character I've play with so far. I don't want to say she's broken... but it's kind of hard to not say so. For starters, she's always got a ranged weapon thanks to her bow and arrows (which you do by just waggling). She's also got really quick melee moves (which you do by pushing the control stick, then waggling). I've found she's the easiest to combo with. She's also got this fire move of her that she uses in mid air to inflict a lot of damage (jump, then hold B and waggle).
Golem might be one of the harder characters to use... He's pretty much a tank, but he's very slow. Not just in movements, but also in attack start up times. When me and my brother were playing, he was Golem, and I was Shanoa. I got a perfect on him. :P
Overall though, I don't think that there's any real balance issues. Shanoa and Maria are up there I'd say... Golem is pretty low on the list.
SpeedReemix
22-11-08, 10:44
Maria : Oh no, She got bigger than mine O_o
I noticed that game fits the timeline and it is probably accurate for every character.
I know tiers are lame, but at least it gives me an idea of who to look out for when it comes to versus modes. Btw, given this is a fighting game, is anyone a grappler type then?
Blackbeltdude
22-11-08, 19:37
There really aren't any grapplers, because there aren't really any throws... like, you can throw people, but those can be blocked. Like Simon and Trevor both have moves that throw people with the whip, but those can be blocked.
Golem has a few moves that involve grabbing people and slamming them, but I'm not sure if all of them can be blocked.

I was just playing this game today and I have to say, im a bit disappointed. I thought the roster of characters was to short, there are so many more characters they can add like Richter, Juste, Leon, Jonathan, Nathan, Albus, Barlowe etc. They couldve done a better job at making the characters resemble what they look like in there games and I think the specials do to much damage
DragonZero
04-03-09, 05:08
I've been watching this game for a while, and I have to say, I have mixed feelings about it.
At first, I was just thrilled that they made another Title with Alucard in it, and the Trailer I saw looked pretty awesome, but now that I've taken a bit of a closer look at it, I'm not so sure.
As far as designs go, I'm pretty much fine with Dracula, Cornell, Simon, Sypha, Death, and Alucard. Alucard does look a bit like Sephiroth with those Locks in front of his Face though, and his Hair really should be longer in the back... And Death looks like a Robot. It's an interesting look for him, and it's not necessarily bad, but I would have personally preferred him with a Robe and/or a Cloak, like he usually has.
The other designs, I can't say I really like though.
One thing that bugs me about it is the presence of Aeon. This is probably due to the fact that an entity almost identical to him was introduced in Curse of Darkness. Saint Germain could have just as easily filled Aeon's place: there's really no need for him to be there. I don't see why Golem is there either, actually. They could have chosen better recurring Bosses/Enemies, like the Succubus, Slogra or Gaibon.
As far as voices go, I'm pretty much alright with them, but as a big Alucard Fan, I have to ask... What the-? His voice is completely different from the one in Symphony. And sort of Emo.
As far as the Roster goes, I agree with you guys that Richter and Soma should have definitely been included, possibly along with Leon. He is the Original Belmont, after all. I personally think that Pumpkin and Joachim would have made great additions as well, but they are a bit more obscure. Sonia also would have been awesome, but apparently her Title was rejected from the Official Continuity, which pisses me off...
Anyway, those are my thoughts on Judgment. <_<
I'm done now.
EDIT: Except not. I just thought I should add that I'm really pleased with the Music in Judgment, as I usually find that I am with CastleVania Titles. They change some stuff (Bloody Tears is only recognizable about half way through), but for the most part it was good: it's great to hear Dracula's Castle, good ol' Vampire Killer, and Dance of Illusions again. Though I'm not completely sure about my feelings regarding what they did with Dance.
The new Music (Mostly from the Trailer) is also great, as always. Props to Michiru.
