So, a new castlevania game is on the horizons. One I've been tracking with eager anticipation - Igarashi himself confirmed its existence many months ago, but until recently we had nothing to go by. However, this changed both with the trademarking of the name Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, and the most reason issue of Famitsu which has brought to our attention screenshots and a bunch of japanese text which is information that sadly my illiterate eyes cannot read.

Yes, this means the leaked shots were real. Which means the protagonist of the game is a female.
As for the name, Ecclesia is a greek word meaning 'An Assembly', or a 'Congregation; Church' implying that the church'll have a good amount to do with the game. With such an implication, I've got to wonder, could this be the 1999 title?

It looks like little has changed from DoS and PoR. And I mean, really little. Hell, I can't tell any difference from these screenshots. Same graphics, same interface, from the looks of it same character(gameplaywise, that is), weapons and control... I hope it doesn't just become a rehash of PoR... Then again, Konami doesn't have a history of rehashing(unlike, oh, Capcom)(Unless you speak of graphics... They rehash those quite a bit), so I won't lose my hope yet.

According to the information, it seems the girl'll be using primarily Swords and Whips. Not too creative there, but oh well.
And to be honest, this one actually looks to be more original then PoR was - Or atleast, the bosses and new art seems to be more promising. Though I still detest the main characters sprite. Looks like a poorly done edit of Charlotte.

Well, anyway, thats kind of irrelevant. Not only is it a beta-build of the game, but due to the fact that most of the game is 'ooky-spooky' dark, black hair would be harder to see then dark brown hair.

It's nice to see a female protagonist that wields weapons. I don't believe we've had one since the 64 games.
Now, is it just me, or does her hair seem to move like Charlotte's hair does in PoR?

For whatever reason.The only places Richter looked anything like his artwork was in the boss room in the Colloseum and in Maria's thought bubble in the Chapel. Otherwise, it's his Rondo outfit, it wasn't until the Saturn game that they gave him the artwork outfit as an alternative costume.

She doesn't evoke appeal to me at all. I just hope that there are our usual gaggle of women monsters. ;D
Also, I think the new mugshot is quite ugly.
However that red thing looks pretty badass.
That red thing looks kinda like Shade Beast Kimkoh from the Contra series, you know, ugly ass monster with the face of a chick in front.
Well it could very well BE Shade beast Kimboh. 'cause they're all Konami.
Heck if HoD can have graduis stuff. Why not a Contra boss?

With the better screenshot, it definitely takes ideas from various versions of Kimkoh:
- The main shape of the body comes from Shattered Soldier/Neo Contra, including how the legs are designed.
- The face is being the focus point again comes from the PS2 games but the design comes from the NES/SNES. I say this as the the ones in the PS2 games:
a. (Shattered Soldier) had it's eyes and mouth sewn shut.
b. (Neo Contra) was designed with the face only consisting of the eyes and nose.
- The face under the face (I hope it's a face) looks similar to the giant bug boss of Stage 7 from Contra 4. (Technically it isn't Kimkoh, but I thought I mention it.)
- I predict it will have these attacks:
a. Ramming attack.
b. It will launch some spore like things into the air.
c. Some type of beam attack from the eye of either human-face or
bug-face.
d. A jumping attack that may start from the ramming one.
e. If it has a second form, it'll probably be like a smaller
human/insect/monster hybrid.
And they reused the Fishman sprites again, you can tell with the head.

MERMAN! MORE MERMANS TO KILL! They're annoying but easy-to kill and not that bad of EXP for such noobletions. And I noticed theres those spiky ball thingies back too. Look under the water...

And I might know what the fountain is for, in the article it mentions -- "These glyphs – taken from random power in the world, the souls of monsters, and other mysterious sources not yet revealed," so maybe that fountain is the source of one of these glyphs.

Man, with any luck, this game might knock off DoS as best handheld CV title. I was very intrigued by the brief preview and liked alot of what I read. :D
From the sounds of things, you get to suck glyphs from the air to replenish your MP as well as channel them into items and weapons. I dunno about you guys, but I'm getting a weird mental image of bighead here standing still with her mouth wide open sucking in the air everytime she kills something. ._.
Aw well, I'm sure the game will baby us and explain this system more indept.
Also this sounded awesome:

It's too...linear. And the action isn't very...well isn't any big action?
And also, as for their sprites...Objects are getting better and better, but characters don't. It almost seems like it doesn't seem right o_O.

Agreed. I was a bit sceptical at first, but it looks like they managed to not only improve on basically everything they took from older games, but also brought in some new stuff.
I think this is the first Castlevania where the protagonist can cling to walls.

One other problem, in my opinion...
Is the main character's slashing animation, it seems so odd.
Then again, it seems much more entertaining than other Castlevania games. I hope it IS...

It rocks. I saw it yesterday but didn't comment. The spells look awesome. There's 2 giant crab battles. Notice there's 3 or 4 giant crab battle parts? on one of them he's red.
I think we FORGE weapons. Notice she gets "Blue drops" "Black Crown" "Copper Ore"... =)

I think it's pretty cool they have Michelle Ruff the English voice Rukia Kuchki from BLEACH as Shanoa the main Character & Dracula does kind of look like he did from Symphony of the Night. Going back to the Gothic style is also cool; I liked the Anime style, but Castlevania screams for the dark & more realistic feel.

your quite bumed about the main Char. being a hunter. In all the games the main Char. was a Hunter; however, the only ecception was Soma Cruse. Are you hoping for another Soma-Esc hero or in this case heroine? cause that Glyph system is kinda like the Soul steal power he had. AND (Dramactic sound) in PoR monsters gave you sub-weps like the bullet Souls. so there still using the same principle.

Well, I just wished she doesn't have any vampire hunter's blood or vampire blood herself. I don't see a point in putting that up, that's all. And well.. Glyphs can be decoded, even by humans, that could make sense.

Uh, just because they're a vampire hunter doesn't mean they necessarily have to have -~SPECIAL BLOOD~-; its basically an occupation. They hunt vampires. Thats it.
And furthermore there is no blood relation between Richter Belmont and the Order - Or if there is, it'll be subtle and not posessed by our heroine Shanoa but rather by a supporting character.

Because with Circle, 64, and Legacy, Dracula would have been resurrected 4 times within the same century (including his from Bram Stoker's original book, which is part of the backstory from the Genesis game).

Why would you need a speed stat?
Use your weapons faster? Sounds kinda useless in a Castlevania game since most of your attacks are based on magic in this one.
Weapon speed is dependant on what the weapon actually is. Using broadsword class weapons have lots of ATK coupled with a 90 degree swing and long range but defintely has slower swing speed. Short swords or rapier class weapons have low ATK but offers quick attack. Depending on how much punch a weapon/spell/transformation ability has drains her mana reserves faster it seems...

And the Speed UP Spells were annoying.. you had to swap everytime you wanted to use another spell, I just want to run a bit faster, like a normal person. They run like... so slowly...

Contains:
- DEATH
- Lots of bosses. I think all they have shown us so far, plus Death, a giant gladiator dude and someone or something who looks like Abbadon from Dawn of Sorrow with Shadow from HoD helping him. Or something like that.
- New stages. A misty forest of kinds, the Clocktower[which, this time, has apparentally a lot of spikes. Maybe even more than usual] and wherever is the place you fight Death and the other place you fight Abbadon / Shadow.
-New enemies. Namely, Cave Trolls and what I suspect to be a Peeping Eye or a variaton of it.
- What I suspect to be the Medusa head Glyph. Of course, I don't remember if they were shown in the last video posted here, so yeah. Of course, there were more Glyphs shown than that, but this was the one I noticed the most.
Well, that's all. And it looks awesome. In my opinion, of course. <<
Edit: Oh, right, I forgot to mention that this will be released in 21th October.

I'm impressed, it looks like this game might not flop like PoR did. I enjoyed the looks of the enemies I caught a brief glimpse of. I am most looking forward to the potentially great soundtrack and wondering if any particular tunes get another appearance. (Anyone who even pretends to know me should know which track in particular I'm gunning for. :V ) I know what I'm doing come the 21st.

Iblis, I don't think there has been any screenshot of Death talking yet. He will probably just play his usual "say something in the background before the battle starts and then be a hard boss fight". The exception is, of course, SotN, where Death actually talks with Alucard and is easy as heck.
On a side note, more videos. This time, a Glyph exhibition. Contains:
- Glyhps, do'h. The ones which call my attention the most are the one which is basically Nova Skeleton[that green skeleton from SotN for those who don't remember]'s attack but purple. It's Glyph Union with itself is a really big version of the normal attack and the one which is a big ball of light which consumes quite some MP. It's Union with itself is some kind of attack that hits everything on the screen.
- More enemies. The sea levels get their own version of what looks like to be your usual annoying respawing enemy. Their name is Gelso, and looks like they appear out of nowhere. There is also the Fish Demon[probably not the exact name, but I am too lazy to check <<] and Forneus, both on the sea level.
- Also another enemy which is a green horse... half skeleton... thing which works like the Dead Warrior enemies.
- Oh, and the Dark Octopi, Fishhead and Winged Skeletons return.
Oh, by the way, remember that Skeleton which was playing an instrument thing and that was apparentally summoning a lot of Skeleton Friskly[known as Ghost Dancers in SotN] which we saw in an earlir trailer? Do you think he is a boss? I mean, even the slimes got their own boss version. A pathetic one, but still a boss. <<

I managed to snag the JP version of Ecclesia and thought I'd give it a spin to get a feel of how the game works (and just to hear the VAs in case US Ecclesia isn't nice enough to include voice swapping like POR) and well... This game isn't like the dungeon crawler types we've had before (aka the so called "Metroidvania" types) as it combines the somewhat straightforward exploration past Castlevania games offered with the option of revisiting areas... at least that's how I see it. The Glyph system is really interesting, though I've encountered that some enemies that drop glyphs have ones that disappear really fast... So far, the only weapon glyphs I've got is the rapier and a throwing knife that doesn't really work as a combo... You're better off dual-wielding the single rapier glyph you get from the start.

EDIT: Just got the game and my preliminary thoughts are that the opening movie looks really terrible and Shanoa is so ugly it may take some time getting used to...

I didnt care for it because it was only a bunch of still images flying around. So far the music's kinda forgettable. I made it to the village so far efore going to work (am at work now) its kinda sad that record 5 is the best music so far. Also lol fat zombies.

I love it just passed trough that boss and some of that prison level, and some spoiley thingies. I found that you only get weapon like glyphs for now. Plus, can someone tell me which game that has Record 5 song ?

I was wondering, how high will the map percentage go? Is it 200% likein some, or 1000%, like in the other DS titles?
By the way, I was dissapointed that the first boss could always be damaged, instead of only when it puts his shield down. It was just weird, striking the head encased in armor, while still doing the same damage.
Given each individual area you go into has it's own map percentage, I think it'll still be 100% overall.

So far, I like this game, despite the times it's killed me due to gauntlets of enemies. >_>;

I'm currently at Albus battle. Albus has a good battle theme, and apparently knows FALCON KICK. More tomorrow.
Yea, spent half the day playing it. I wonder if level 24 is underlevel for where I am...
Oh, and bosses are actually killing me. This doesn't bother me so much, since all attacks are avoidable if you know what you're doing. I like this game so far, despite the "eh" music. (Records 5 and 6 are good).
Does anyone know where Record 1 is?

Eh, I keep getting my ass kicked by Brachyura. Perchance level 10 is too low? Anywho, I'm level grinding on Evil Forces before trying him again. Lol that a crab makes man noises though.

Brachyura is probably the hardest boss in the game to avoid. But the ending of the battle is SO WORTH IT.
Anyhow, I've already got a bad ending, so after fixing that problem, currently at: Dracula's Castle, Nightmare Gate is the first part.
Haven't fought Death yet, but I've beaten every boss that appears in the trailers, besides Death of course.*
*I've only gotten one medal for beating the first boss without getting hit. That's what the medals do, and that's their only purpose... Beat a boss without getting hit, get it's metal.
Plot twists abound.

The thing of it is it isn't nessesarily impossible to avoid, (His AI is actually extremely basic as he follows a set pattern) it's the fact that you get flung around on the little itty bitty platforms to avoid getting hit.
Also what are these medals you speak of?

Medals are, according to the Guide option in the pause menu, awarded for beating a boss without getting hit.
Yea. If you have Vol Fulgar, spam it. When it turns red, aim his claw at the crack in the ceiling. Rinse and repeat, and avoid. It's pretty basic once you get it down.
Death's beastly. That's all.
If you die in Dracula's Castle, you'll get a different game over screen. Just a fun little tidbit to know.
EDIT: Progress update. Put in spoilers cause spoilers. Duh.
At Dracula. Yes, the big cheese. He's big, bad and most defintly not nice. I got about 680ish HP and Dracula can do 138 with all his attacks, and they've a tendacy to hit multiple times. Currently at level 36.
I'm not sure if he's the final boss, but I'm pretty sure he is.
I got a question for those who've gotten it. How do you get the glyph that's at the top of the room in the first mountain pass? The one where the wind is blowing to the left at the top. :/
EDITMK2: Nevermind, I got this glyph. That's all the glyphs that are floating around. Gotta grind for the rest.
