The face looks way too long. I think it needs some shortening.

Also, the helmet face is sloping down with the face too low.

Other than that, the head looks too big, but the body looks great.

All right, brother (mats my brother if you didn't know). Let the flameing begin. *insert laugh* Lolz. First. Tell everyone what style your doing. Second. The arm is malformed. Before you start shading. get the shapes right first.

oh, but there isn't any fixed style. I just drew it and I'llclarify that the helmet head was an earlier attempt. The helmetless head is the "better" one. So what can I do to make look better?

P.S. The bottom four frames show his arm weapon forming (melee form) - no name yet...

I think you should take a go at the MM Nes style, it is easy, simple, and teaches you how to shape things.

Except it doesn't teach you anything about shading at all.

I rather suggest simply looking at how other(official) sprites are shaded and copying the shading from there.

Maybe I should have added this - after getting used to shaping shade it by using an official one as a reference(like what Mr. F just stated).

1. 8bit is a bit (no pun intended) boring - I've frankensteined final fantasy Tactics sprites (32 bit) and they were just complicated enough to give trouble, but not boring.

2. I will probably submit to your will anyways.
