Hey I'm laying down a law around here. Score one for Tommy Tuke!

But seriously it has been brought to my attention that the rules are generally not clear on the subject of advertising. We do take into account that a lot of forumers here (may) have creative energies\authority in some field or another (perhaps related to what we do here) and thus it isn't too surprising that people may be eager to show off. In terms of the welfare of the forum this can often have its limits.

So the rules pretty much go as follows.
If you have a gallery on large arts websites such as deviantart (or even that pale bullshit copy Sheezyart) you can start a thread about it in the creative corner (http://sprites-inc.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=14) art section, although please be aware there may already be a thread for users to post their dev links there anyway. Speaking of which i might do something like that right now.
If you have an gallery original from mainstream art sites and have set topic to talk about (e.g. a dark art website along with reasonable info about an upcoming project) then you're entitled to ad in your new thread without any stress.
The same practically applies to all sections of the creative corner including sprite art, writing and custom games in whatever context may apply to those areas. One other thing make sure you have something to show first and none of this "I have a picture, but i need to find a host, so it'll take me 5 days to upload it endpost." giraffe crap that morons take pride in doing.
Chances are you probably came from somewhere else when finding your way here, and\or you happen to be involved of something intrigueing of your own. If that's the case feel free to make mention of it when you go to the intro thread to make your post there.

That's practically about it. Otherwise going the way of "i came to these forums because i want to take people away from this place so that they can be members of my domain" so to speak, no matter how friendly you make it is something we regard as a no-no, and to be blunt it's pretty much a no-no most places you go to. I've tried it a few times and i could tell you i didn't get positive feedback myself.

Whilst i won't throw a big hissy if catch one (apart from closing the thread), it still depends on how much you wish to piss off people and get banned. Examples.
Certainly don't post an ad in the wrong section. For example if you want to get banned on the spot post a megaman thread in the Mangagaga forums.(you might actually just get a warning but with Gagaman going a bit bonkers these days around here i can't guarantee :P )
Don't derail a thread with an unrelated link to your works. No matter how much i want to post Psyomaster Ryuken chapters in the Cosmic-hero update thread i know i'll be stripped of my modship if i did. Just think of the consequences for non-mod regulars.
No spam; no mobile phones, warez, holidays, debt tips, viagra or any other junkmail junk.

That's just about all there is to say. If anything respectful you can alternatively send users private messages when advertising (click on a users name and click on send pm) although obviously don't start forcing people or sending random folk completely useless crap.

This might be a pretty long winded set of rules but i otherwise assume it's common sense anyway, and i'm gentle compared to Ace, Gaga and Quickman on blatant advertising as it is (or at least i think i am).

Mods and admins can feel free to make suggestions or completely rewrite my idea if needby. Just see how it goes.

edit: 3/08/06: Oh and providing you have an approriate link to link to and no spam, you can add banners and ads in your signatures. You already know that.

Sounds pretty good to me. That's pretty much the stance I take on advertising over on the MMC.

Thankyou for setting down clear rules. Everything sounds fine to me.

Update:
Should your first post be a advertising link, regardless, the chances are - you WILL be treated as a Spam Bot, and thus have your account deleted.

Huh, 1 post and deleted?
Isn't that a bit harsh?

Seriously. It weeds out the jerks who join in three seconds, post an ad, then move on. I seriously doubt that if one intends to be a normal member here than his or her first post will be an advertisement. And if it is... oh well, he or she won't ever do it again. He or she has learned the hard way.

What's the meaning of SPAM Bots anyway? They're useless, especially if you try to Spam Someone into buying something. All they'll do then is get someone really really pissed at you. So here's something for The SpamBots::p QUIT SPAMMING!!!
This has been a public message about SpamBots. We are not liable for Any SpamBot injuries or chasing people around on A 3 legged horse while yelling: Get rid of Spam Bots. Thank you. lol, just kidding.:D

Umm. So you saying we can advertise our site in the Creative corner if it has to do with sprites, art, comics or writing? (as long as posted in the corresponding forum)

Yup that's what i said. Try and have something recent on the site to show it's active and stuff.

What about linking banners to another topic on the site, I.E. a game we're working on?
