*repeated angry rants about the media blaming video games for everything*

There Terry', happy? I won't bother to give out the details though.

I'm reading the article now...so I'll talk about it in a second.

(EDIT)- Damn...damn it all to hell and back.

They shouldn't be blaming games, but the retard stupid enough to be stupid.

(no offense to those with mental disabilities)

But in all seriousness, I hate it when people are just this stupid.

I read about this yesterday on Kotaku. :P

Yeah, this just seems like the a case of someone doing something stupid. The guy probably would have done the same thing if they were in a line to get ice cream. :P Or not. Who knows.

Xterra
30-04-08, 13:21
Well...what could be going on within one's mind to do this?

You're sitting there...sitting there...bored. Ooh look, a man. *stab*

Stupid...so very, very stupid. And I don't think he'd wait for ice-cream...

Not that it is impossible, but that it's more convenient to go to the store.

Which would probably mean...the next incident would be in a market...

You know... maybe it was one of those idiots who blame the game for causing violence... trying to "prove" it by stabbing people... but thats a long shot

And... That game just popped up in conversation around me although they couldn't see the screen... odd...

Bingo, much?

Maybe he was trying to do it because he wanted to try it once, and then use the game to "cover up" for him.

On: This seems like a hoax.
Off:
"He is described as a light skinned black man aged about 21 years old, 6ft 5ins tall, of medium build wearing a light grey hooded top with his hood up." Does it make me paranoid or racist if this is what starts me thinking this is a hoax?

The Walrus

I'd laugh, but this kinda thing just doesn't amuse me anymore. It's just fucking pathetic to me now.

Zombie- The man's skin color should have no baring as to whether or not you think it's a hoax. Probably just you being paranoid

Racist. So damn racist >.>, thats what it makes you look like.

Or maybe thats what I think, since I'm not 100% sure if that is really what racist means. My brother would call me racist when I'd say "I like light colored skin better". So maybe I'm not correct.

"The penalty for possession of violent video games.... IS DEATH!"

I find that phrase to be more oxymoronic that anything, lol

But yeah, stabbing is bad. I don't even like the GTA games that much, so I have trouble understanding why people wanna stab each other about them.

A. Could it have just been a coincidence that he so happen to do it in front of a game store? It doesn't say he stole a copy, does it? The only non-coincidence would be that he waited at a highly populated area at that specific time of night, which is what he had in mind IMO.

B. I don't want to offend anyone, but I never really liked the GTA series. >_>

Rainbow Dash

A. Every Grand Theft Auto released after the first one has been the exact same mediocre game at a higher price.

B. Of course this is completely unrelated to Grand Theft Auto. You know that because you have an IQ > 5. A lot of people won't see it that way, however, and that's the whole point of the topic.

As for me, my opinion shall stay unbiased and silent.

Seriously.

I mean, why would I want to post on something like this?

...
Humanity has...
Not really changed. But the increase in young people committing crimes is just extreme. It sicken me more than the fact people would even RELATE GTA to this without evidence. Which location doesn't apply since logic may not apply to a criminal.
Anyways, I think that SOMEONE had to have had more details than the current ones.

People have the capacity to realize what is right and what is wrong, what is reality and what is virtual. The only way their capacity to realize this can be impeded is if they suffer a crippling mental illness; in which case they would have picked this behavior up from something else. The only way to absolutely stop this kind of thing from happening is to wipe out all of humanity.

I think s/he was talking about how people are associated with video game violence, in support of video game != violence. Though, a terrible idea. Because s/he thinks that only mentally ill people will attack because of video games. And that we all are that mentally ill.

You sir have me horribly mistaken. What I'm saying is that people who attack because of video games have something mentally wrong with them and would attack because of something else, whether it be a book or something else.

Videogames.
DO.
NOT.
AFFECT.
PEOPLE.
UNLESS THERE RETARTED OR SOMETHING

If pacman effected us, we would paint ourselves yellow and start munching on dots in dark rooms.

Look at your signature. Proof right there.

If it hadn't been for MmZ, you'd probably have an X series signature. Proof.

Okay, but seriously, there was this guy who sniped people on the highway, and said he got his "Uber" sniping skills from Halo.

There is no freaking way to train yourself with a sniper gun based off of Halo. People who blame videogames are too stupid to come up with a good reason.

Objection!

Technically, video games, and hell, everything we do really, affects us in our subconscious. If you play regularily and often, it is entirely possible that video games can affect your actions and thoughts, even without you noticing, particulary considering that video games are a much more realistic medium than, oh, say, books or television, simply because you are actually taking part in what happens(And no, this isn't about pressing buttons. This is about identifying yourself with the character in the game and his actions. "The playable guy in GTA beat that hooker unconscious and threw her into a lake" becomes "I beat that hooker unconscious and threw her into a lake").
This is where the differences start. People with a functioning common sense are able to keep those things from influencing their actions too much, at least to a degree. People with a slightly broken apparatus in that regard can't, and will then start to shoot people in schools or whatever.
This is no reason to ban video games or anything like that, but I think it's time we collectively stop calling adults and experts(adults and freaking experts!) retarded just because of our lack of knowledge of the human mind.

Srlsy. Also, I would very much like someone to prove me wrong. And I mean prove me wrong.

I don't think I can because what you said is right. :P

Aside from that, whenever I do something funny in games I really do tell my friends "And then I killed him in an awesome battle! It was so awesome when I finnished him with my finnishing move!" However I do not really do those things in reality, unless I show them how it was, and I 'attack' the air or stab it. With my invisible sword. Or a stick.

I agree with Terry, Everything we do effects us. Just being on the computer all the time in the past year has changed my way of talking speaking and a little bit of thinking too, Which actually isn't such a bad thing. My brothers one time watched a whole marathon of a fighting anime and they ended up beating the crud out of each other afterwards. That was the oddest thing to see. XD

I'd think the only way to stop this would be too... Rate the violent games, FS, for Smart people! XD

Okay I'll shut up now...

It was too easy for critics to claim — falsely, it turned out — that Cho Seung-Hui (the Virginia Tech killer) was a fan of Counter-Strike; I just wish to God that legislators were as eager to point out that this nutball had no problem obtaining a 9mm semiautomatic handgun. Cho used it in a rampage that resulted in the murder of 32 people. If he'd been stuck with nothing but a plastic videogame gun, he wouldn't even have been able to kill himself.

Case closed
While in this case, a knife would've been easier to obtain, what he was trying to say is that, it doesn't matter if people who play video games get affected, if they can't do anything about it they'll stop trying.

Recall when all of you first saw superman, you all wished you could fly, after several failed attempts you realise you can't fly and hopefully gave up trying before you hurt yourself. Now these idiots see people shooting each other on TV and video games and go "Ooooh I want to do that!" while most of them will have a hard time actually finding a real gun, and soon give up and find themselves obsessed with something else, this idiot seems to have figured out a knife will do as much damage as a bullet.
