We'll do our best to make this tonight's last PS3 post, but we really can't turn the lights out without sharing the first official pic of the Playstation 3 and its new, final, official controller. At least we think this is the final, official controller. And we think this is what the PS3 will really look like. We really had gotten used to the boomerang, so we have to admit we felt something of a void when Sony confirmed last month that they were yanking the prototype design (http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/22/sony-confirms-ps3-controller-redesign/) and would unveil the real PS3 controller at E3. And unveil it they did, as part of the PS3 dog-and-pony show this evening. Yeah, we're kind of underwhelmed, too. Still, despite its resemblance to past Sony controllers, it does have some solid features, including X-Y-Z, pitch, roll, yaw and lateral motion detection, and Bluetooth for wireless play. And chances are the learning curve of switching from the PS2 controller to this one will be all of about five minutes.
Update: Sony has confirmed that the new controller will not have vibration functionality, unlike the Dual Shock, Dual Shock 2 and the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii controllers. I laughed very hard as soon as I saw the "new" controller. Good old Sony.
At least it's not a boomerand now, but I still don't like that design after all these years: It's too small for my big old hands XD
Sony conference impressions: Crap, full of hype and buzzwords, showed some good games and PS1 games to be downloaded on PSP, ripped of Microsoft and Nintendo in one fell swoop, the terribly high price and the MGS4 trailer was the best part of it according to many games sites.

My hands are gargantuan and they love the PS3 joypad ALMOST as much as the XBox joypads. [Ah, XBox. Great computer. Awesome joypads. Barely any fucking games :g-Gaga:]
Totally glad they dropped the original joypad idea.
£500? Easily affordable, though wicked fucking overpriced.
First order of business when I get mine- I'm already compiling the 1000 song playlist I'm loading onto it.

other than that, i like wireless :3 and the spiderman font kicks ass.
Im gonna get my uncle to wire me one, using his amazing "I work at Dixons! lol!" power.
The fact they stripped the rumble feature is quite a down fall too.

I'm still convinced that no matter how much they screw everyone over, the Playstation brand will be the leader of the pack once just because it's bloody Playstation. BOO.

Thats true, It'll sell because its only a Playstation, and possibly on the steam of afew good games series, mabye afew new titles too, but I doubt that.

It's because the playstation will always have, for every seven shit games, one item of fucking genius.
Gamecube- Lovely looking computer, nice selection of games, tons of good multiplayer games
XBox- Fucking marvelous computer, badass multiplayer, marvelous online program, utterly abysmal selection of games
Playstation 2- Rubbish computer, ok online program, average multiplayer games, and then the selection of games. One third shite, one third average, one third genius.
PS2 gave us Shadow Of The Colossus, Katamari Damacy, Killzone, Silent Hill 2, Guitar Hero, and the magnun opus of videogaming, the fucking holy grail of playstation, Ico.
Can't wait for what the SOTC/Ico gits have brewing for PS3.

I'm actually happy that they're sticking to the good old Dualshock design..... in my honest opinion, that's the best controller that's been out in years..... though it could be a little bigger.

Yeah, the price isnt that bad, considering all the extra bits and bobs Sony shoved in, Im also assuming that the Sony have learned from Mircosofts faults and have checked that the PS3 wont spontaniously combust like the Xbox 360.

There hasn't been a single interesting, original game accounment for the PS3 yet, just a whole of of fives, sixes and sevens. I'll be passing on Sony's choice for a forth time. Althiough the Playstation 2 has proved to have a lot more decent content than the PSone ever had, although the majority of the stuff I would buy for it would be retro compliations.

Errrrr? since when does originality have to do with something being fun? sure its great to have a fresh change once in a while, but sometimes being original doesn't make something fun (and sometimes it does of course).......and intresting, well thats debatable on what you like, personally, Sonic next gen, MGS4 and Amoured Core 4 all look pretty intresting too me and has made me decided I'll be grabbing myself a PS3. Oh and of course there's also Resident Evil five to consider and even Devil May Cry but of course that is my cup of tea too.
And why do we Brits pay more? because our pound is more powerful obviously!
And on a side note, thanks to Perks, don't bother with a PSP, after all you'll really just want it to play your SNES and Mega Drive games on the go, get a DS if you plan to buy games for it Darkthrone!

The main reason we pay more is because the UK is basically "Treasure Island". Its very rare that we don't get screwed over. An example being Black. In the USA i heard it was to come out at $30 or so meaning possibly about £20 over here. So why is it that Black can cost £35 in some places here? Mainly because they can get away with screwing us over. Mind you, its EA so nothing out of the ordinary there.

Then you're screwed price wise. Big time. I don't think I need to go into detail concerning the game I brought whose shipping cost more than the game itself, and then Customs Tax cost more than both the game, and the shipping, combined.

One thing i don't like about the PS controller. Hard to pull off 360 special moves on it without scratching your thumbs. Might just be me.
As i've said before somewhere along the line, i'm not bothering with PS3 or any next gen console. Although the Nintendo DS is starting to look appealing.

What does Sony have to gain with the PS3 other than a whole lot of problems? It was estimated that they would lose $880 per console, and if they're going to meet the demand for their fans... They are going to have one HELL of a good budget. As far as we know, they wasted all their budget on the PS3. Multiply $880 by about 5 million... The first wave of PS3s would cost about $4,400,000,000! That's not even including advertisements, etc... Sony better have one hell of a game plan if they wish to stay afloat.
