View Full Version : 14 year old sues Myspace
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/nation/3984459.html?
A 14-year-old girl who says she was sexually assaulted by another user of MySpace.com sued the social networking Web site Monday, claiming it does not take sufficient steps to protect underage members.
The girl says a 19-year-old man lied in his profile about being a senior on a football team to gain her trust and phone number.
WTF MAN!? Christ! Where is personal responsibility? I saw the girl's lawyer on TV just now, he was talking about MySpace needing to take responsibility & should be held liable...B mothing f-ing S!
Same thing as if a woman gets raped in a bar, it ain't the bar's fault...it is the guy's fault. MySpace shouldn't be held liable because some STUPID girl was stupid enough to give out her personal info & all, her fault that she wasn't careful enough. People suck, you can't trust anyone.
ALSO, these 14 yr olds & younger, they're not even supposed to be on there!...I say sue those punk kids for false representation of themself!
I really agree with you, but not that radicaly.
Yes, I myself have been thinking about these types of things too.
Yes it is not fair.I say sue those youngsters's PARENTS who haven't teached they're kids anything!!!

And to think i met Gagaman in person a few weeks back (my fears weren't so much he'd turn out to be a phoney serial arsebandit as they were him turning out to be a big jerk. Thankfully that wasn't the case, although he was a bit quiet :P ).
Anywho i strongly against anyone under the age of 18 meeting peeps on the net that's what i say.
(Other than that i'm one of those sad loners that takes pageviews too seriously so i might not be one to talk.)

I'm not as well spoken in real life.
I'm sociopathic, and feel awful in conversations. So it'll most likely be me going "yeah" or "heh" for every reply.
Unless I'm in a mood swing, in which case I wont shut the hell up.

Usual tactic to avoid conversation- Smoke. No one wants to talk to someone while they're smoking
Tom: What if they're smoking as well?
Me: .......(starts smoking)
Tom: Fuck. (goes away)
On a serious note- I have aspergers. ie- Reasonably high intelligence, poor social skills.
I just dont like confrontation in general. I had my first ever disciplinery at work a few months ago and I just felt intimidated and paranoid throughout.
Idiotic choice- I dont like being around lots of other people, and I work in a huge fucking office :p
This news ain't surprising...

What the hell was that supposed to mean. You just said the guy was an ass so she has every right to sue myspace. What? WHAT!? The guy was an ass. How many times do you see people suing chatrooms because they meet some psycho? It's the same thing. They gave out personal info and were being idiots. They're fault, not the sites. Sue the guy if anyone. And even then maybe they should lose the case, because they elected of their own will to give out their information, and I'm pretty sure Myspace pretty nicely defines the consequences of what can happen. She took the risk. She got fucked (In a sense of being shoved in a bad situation, not sexually.). Myspace's fault? No. Worst that should happen to them is they'll need to shove a little warning when users sign up, log on, or go on the site period.
yeah! well. I do agree. The dude shouldn't have harrased the girl and of course you can expect that from some stupid guy trying to get you know from a girl. He knew this would happen but he just acked like an idot.
What? I mean of course he shouldnt be harrising people online but seriously the girl went kinda over board with the lawsuit.

What the hell are you talking about?
Incidentally as you
A) Have no understanding of coherence
B) Think homosexual people are "scary" and bad
C) Said "Be nice to me because I'm scarier than anyone" or something equally as silly.
I regard your posts as idiocy by default

There you go, nothing like one's own contradiction.
Anywho, my thoughts of this whole judicial circus can be pretty much summed up as: It's the parents' faults. Seriously, it is. Folks nowadays don't wanna take care of their unwanted brood and are too quick to place blame on the media or some disorder or something silly whenever their child does something wrong.
Spanking is outlawed now, so parents gotta resort to time-outs and lectures when back in my day (good god, I'm just showing my age) a good whack on the bottom got ya to cut the crap right then and there. Parents don't wanna take the time to teach their kids the differences between real and fantasy (this'll tie into an "ZOMG video games are teh bad!" rant that I won't post), they don't wanna take the time to actually sit down with their kids and instruct 'em on proper ettiquite and how to be cautious online and such. Nope, they just plop their brats down in front of the TV and let the media do the babysitting for them.
It's stupid. I place the blame squarely on the girl's parents as they did not do a goddamn thing to make sure to watch out for their "beloved child." They didn't do their jobs as parents.

You know little to nothing about child phychology
First off I do agree it's said child's fault, but not because she trusted him. The reason she fell into this trap was because of the way her mind is wired, she thought the guy was her peer, and as children think they seek admiration from thier peers. MySpace should go to further extents to check the age of it's members instead of giving out auto-membership for all.
I'm 13 and I can tell you, that has happened to me, and no I didn't get raped, or stalked or anything, but it was weird. I believe that it is the girl's fault but you know why when you're younger and you like hardly have anyone to talk to and you talk with this person on like MySpace, TagWorld, MSN, AIM, YIM, etc. and then you think they're cool and since they're supposedly older 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and you want to meet them and see how cool they are so...you say yes, and then sometimes...hardly....it turns out that it is a nice dude or girl that is like your friend, but most times...they end up like the girl...or me, but the girl I met was really cool, just not what I thought.
I'm 14... It's not that the parents didn't tell them, it's just the simple fact that they don't listen. Like when I just told you that I was 14. But then again I'm not giving you my address, so technically you wouldn't know where to look for me, and which 14 year old I was. I also think it's not the sites fault. And they DO stick up messages saying not to give out your personal info on the internet. They are not the sites responsibility. They need to start taking resposibility for themselves. If they're stupid enough to give out personal info, then, that's thier problem, Not the sites. They need to LISTEN to thier parents... Not that I do but I don't really give out personal info... But I don't like lying.

How fucking stupid do you have to be to not know that predators lurk around chatrooms and to give out your personal info. If only stupidity was a crime
Some people are too stupid for their own good.
they're too ignorant really....not to listen or know about the dangers that lurk around the internet...
Well, you know what they say:"A sucker is born every minute"

I dunno what they say, but I say that if warning labels were abolished, we'd lose 80% of the US and have a 600% increase in lawsuits.
Going back off topic and sounding like I'm bucking the trend, but I actually have aspergers as well. Well, actually it's Autism, which is more or less the same thing. Ooh-er.
