View Full Version : Megaman Legends Texture Pack anyone?

Well, I noticed that the main site does have a rather small selection of textures from Megaman Legends, along with what would appear to be the majority of the 2D artwork (still need to verify). But MML has quite a bit more than that hanging around in it's data. With all textures extracted and in BMP format, it's close to 140 mb worth of textures (about 9mb compressed, believe it or not), actually. Of course, if all of that was saved in another format, it'd probably lower the size a lot.

At the moment, any the only tools I've been able to find that are able to even slightly rip the textures are TileMolester, which rips them correctly, but doesn't get anything near the true palettes, and PSicture, which can rip them with the correct palette, but the textures themselves are somewhat scrambled.

The textures being scrambled, however, is no longer a problem, though, as I've managed to create a Photoshop macro that goes through and unscrambles the textures. So that's not a problem anymore.

What I'm getting at after the incredibly too long intro, is basically, would anyone benefit from having the entire ripped, correctly paletted, and unscrambled texture collection from MML? All the textures would be in their original format as they are in the game, as in, the majority are in 256x256 sheets, containing several textures, and thier reduced resolution versions as well. The pack would essentially contain every visual element of Megaman Legends, except the models themselves (and trust me, if I could figure out a way to rip and convert those to a usable format, I would in a second), all in their base form. Which means that certain things, such as the buster shots and such, are in greyscale, as they essentially just have a palette swap applied to them ingame to make the different colors.

I'm gonna update the post later on after I get off work with some examples of the textures, and stuff like that.

Its a decent bit of the 2D artwork.. there's still plenty more I had ready but never finished arranging.. whats left is mostly pictures and paintings and signs, and the unused/dev stuff (the odd little face images and unfinished items for example) as well as another sheet or two of attack effects.

As to the textures... i'm wondering if the file size could be cut down a bit. Having gone through all of them myself, I know there's plenty of duplicates in there, and quite a few of the sheets could be saved as 256 color .gif files to further reduce the size without any quality loss, depending on what filetype they're saved as right now.

So yeah.. go for it. Would be great to go through it all.

I seem to remember a forum project at another site, though they got hacked and they may not have recovered yet- that was gonna make an MMO based on the legends series. They had a good start, but they had a problem gathering textures. I had made a few, but they were a bit random. I'm sure that if they're back up, they -at least- could most certainly benefit.

Sounds great, I really need to get my hands on some good wall and floor textures from MML.

However it doesn't seem like this post is being updated..

Haha, I get easily distracted. Sorry for the lack of a next day delivery, but here's delivery nonetheless.

Rapidshare (http://rapidshare.com/files/94075972/MMLTextures.rar.html)

That's all 1552 texture files.

Oh, and what I said before about the whole "they were messed up thing", and how I had to fix them?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/BetaSword/unfixed.png
That's unfixed.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/BetaSword/fixed.png
That's fixed.

I also converted them all from their original .bmp format that I got them in, over to .png, which dropped the uncompressed size of them all from about 150 mb down to about 13 mb. Big difference, I'd say.

But yeah, have at 'em, and sorry about taking so long.

Oh nice!

Level textures are really helpful, I certain have a use for some of these for Stronghold. ^_^

I'll stick them up when I get a chance.. or when my internet's fixed.

Thank you so much! Your a life saver. I'll be able to remake parts of Megaman Legends in Little Big Planet now.

EDIT: A few important textures are messed up beyond use, mainly

Maybe the BMP version didn't have this issue, that's possible.

As far as colors go, all colors are the same as the bmp versions. And if those are the ones I think they are (I don't have them in front of me to check), then it's actually just using a different palette. There should be correct ones in there as well, as I've used them to make textures for Doom, and was able to make all the grass ones. Having transitions to dirt, like you said in the email, may be a bit hard, as if I remember correctly, the only dirt there was was little dirt paths and patches of dirt in places, no outright entire dirt textures.

But yeah, there will be some in there with weird palettes. But there'll also be the same textures in there with correct palettes as well. It's just a matter of digging through all of them. And if I wasn't such a lazy bastard, I'd think about actually cutting out each seperate texture and grouping them according to location. Unfortunately, my attention span isn't nearly long enough.

Some of them really do seem messed up though and I've went though it over 5 times in the past 2 days and their not in there. If you have ones that arn't like this then could you please upload them to imageshack?

I also tried re-downloading the file, and re-unziping it, nothing changed.

Most of them I could just "fix" by myself if it turns out it's just ugly, not messed up, no biggy.
But if they are messed up I'd like it if you could fix it.

And if none of them are messed up then their really freaking ugly.
Anyway, thanks again for them.

Heres how I'm doing so far, even set them up in grids of 64 like the game uses.

Heres a list of ones I think are messed up:

ST1A_0012
ST02_0015
ST10_00_0008
ST10_00_0012

ST09_0001

PS: I meant to say I couldn't get light starting area grass to unwalkable out of map dark grass tiles, It looks like those tiles are in the game, so I figured they might be with the ones that I see as messed up.

Ok, I think I understand what you're talking about, and also have a solution, as I recall having had the same problem.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/BetaSword/mmltextures/MMGRSS13.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/BetaSword/mmltextures/MMGRSS14.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/BetaSword/mmltextures/MMGRSS15.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/BetaSword/mmltextures/MMGRSS16.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/BetaSword/mmltextures/MMGRSS17.png

That's all the textures that connect from light grass to dark grass. How I used them in Doom was just to rotate them depending on which side they need to be on. Which then gets you something like this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/BetaSword/mmltextures/DOOM0000.png

Which was actually horribly incomplete, and will likely stay that way. But still.

Oh, and now that I think about it, I think I did have to do a bit of manual recoloring on some of the grass sheets, and in those cases, I just used screenshots out of an emulator to help.

Alright, I'll just fix them up, just have to switch in 1 or 2 new colors, no biggy.

But do you plan on updating your file with fixed versions? It'd be a shame for everyone that downloads to have to fix it.

BetaSword

Perhaps. Either that, or I'll add in a text file explaining that I'm too lazy to fix it myself :P

I must say, this is a very cool project to follow. I'm impressed you know this much about the textures.

I thought about it and decided it would be cool if, when you get the time that is, you could do this same process for RMD2 (MML2) as well. As for the uses of these? I'm still trying to figure it out. *Insert laughter* Still, very nice and cool.
