View Full Version : Converting to MP4

So, I bought myself one of those new Ipod Classics that plays movies, but much to my dis-may, they need to be in MP4 format. :P

So, does anyone know of any FREE program out there that can convert other media types to MP4? (I'd like something that converts avi to MP4 to be real specific)...

Also, I'm NOT asking for pirated downloads or anything like that. I'm asking if there's free or even trial programs out there that you guys have tried that work well for this kind of thing.

Good question though my answer may lead to more than an Temp ban so *zips lips*

I'll just say it in code

EDIT BY BLACKBELTDUDE: You just got un-banned, don't do something stupid again.

Actually there is a program named Xilisoft Video Converter, Transforms mp3, movies, mp4, mp5 (wut O.O), etc.

But only give you the first 5 minutes of each Archive :(

Yeah, I found another one that gave me 60% of the movie, and another that would convert, but leave a huge water mark in the middle of the movie. :P

I'd like to know if there's a free program out there that'll just convert it with no strings attached. A LEGALLY free program.

I don't think there is BBD. I've been looking for months for the same reason as you. In the end I just kinda took stuff from youtube.

Well you could get a Zune instead it's easier to use and if you are asking for a free LEGAL music converter, you are out of luck. Reasons?

1) Programs are never free =P
2) getting it free is illegal
3) I don't think Zune uses Mp4s

Sorry but no, no watermarks, only 5 minutes less :)

Maybe we're looking at this at a different angle?

What if theres an MP4 Screen-Recorder?

That would work, just turn on the movie and the recorder!

(Though a converter would take up much less time, and allow you to multi task)

That's an interesting idea, but from the trials I saw, what they do is take each frame of the movie, and convert it. I suppose I'll look into that though... but from what I've heard, MP4 is the next step in file formats for this kind of media, so I doubt I can LEGALLY get it for free. :P (Which is what I'd like to do.)

Like Media Convert? (http://media-convert.com/)

Guess how long it takes to upload a video? XP Unless your connection runs at the speed of light or you can wait a week or so, Media Convert doesn't even qualify as impractical. XD Just to give you an example, I started on an avi-mp4 transfer and it's taken four minutes to upload 64kb.

This is something I'm having trouble with too, and I've yet to find a solution. :/ Google has failed me.

See, I tried that.

But my 2 hour plus movie is too big. :P

If that program Momoko mentioned only cuts off the last 5 minutes, wouldn't it be possible to add a 5 minute blank screen at the end of the video, with an .AVI editor? That way, you'd have the whole movie, because only the blank screen got cut off.

I've no idea how any of these work, as I'm only posting links to things I ran into on Google.

Most of which can just be tested via trial mode.

ImTOO MP4 Video Converter (http://www.imtoo.com/mp4-video-converter.html)
Alive MP4 Converter (http://www.alivemedia.net/mp4-converter.htm)
MPEG4 Direct Maker (http://www.artech365.com/mpeg4maker/index.htm)
Easy Video to MP4 Converter (http://www.divxtodvd.net/video-to-mp4.htm)

I dunno how well these'll work on trial, but it's worth a shot, no?

Hope this helped, even by a miniscule amount.

Yeah, that's probably the most reasonable solution.

Actually, sometimes you won't even need to do this, (or atleast if you never watch the credit screen)

A bit late, but still valid, I think this would work - http://grandfiles.com/programs/ipod/videora-ipod-converter.html
