Does anyone just have fun anymore?

I was playing Diablo 2 online today and this guy was sitting there, bitching at the rest of the party for for just playing around and not going on the main quest. After a little pvp and watching the druid stand behind the bear summon (making it look like he was buttfucking him) and laughing, After that, the guy called us noobs and other shit for not taking the game seriously.

So that leads me to ask, does anyone just have fun anymore? Does anyone just take the time and look around to see how much detail and extras the developers put into a game so we can have fun with it?

If you can't get any enjoyment out of a game then why play it at all?

People have different definitions of "fun". For some, fun is actively progressing in the game and beating it, for others, it's what you said. Naturally, that often leads to arguments.
That's one of the things that's problematic in multiplayer games.

Taking a game seriously is no way to enjoy it. It will just make you bitter when someone, or you makes a mistake.

That depends entirely on your definition of "serious". To me, what you just described sounded more like perfectionism.

Personally, "Fun" in Multi player Games to me is how I can talk to someone probably thousands of miles away from me, and feel like it's a real conversation.

And before someone blabs "Thats chat rooms!" I would like to say that It doesn't feel the same because in these games, there are more than one way to feel a sense of achievement. (Unlike in Chat Rooms, the only way you feel this way is when you own some one verbally).

Another reason is that these games sometimes allow you to make your character a figure of your self -- or your imaginary self.


And before I get shot for straying too far off the subject,

People sometimes play games because they had this cool dream where they had a stick and whacked a dragon with a number over his head and want to get that feeling again, and get too mad when some one destroys his "replay". (Aka Kill Stealers, Spammers, or even people who just joke) because it makes it look like some type of cheap flash video with all the "LOLOLOL! NO WAI!1! PWNED!!! NOEZ!!1" etc.
