I'm surprised there hasn't already been a World Cup topic here, actually.

Wouldn't the six be before the zero there? anyway I think this should rather go to the general section then smeg head. Actually I'm surpraised this topic wasn't posted sooner.

Anyway, Argentina's proformence was pure brilliance! forget France, Brazil and even England (and after yesterdays match, I'm even more worried about them) Argentina knew what they were doing during the entire game and the team showed incredible team work for example, the second goal I believe they scored before hand had 26 straight passes and not once did Serbian and Montenegro actually manage to take the ball off of them. So far this has been the best match in the world cup and if any indication of whats to come, Argentina may very well win it this time round.

On a side note, Maradona seems to have lost weight again.

USA! USA! USA!

What? We knew that we were going to lose, but we still didn't care. Americans just can't stand soccer...... though I suppose the exact same thing could be said about baseball, too.

Anyway, best of luck to whoever the hell you guys are rooting for. If I were to root for someone, I'd probably just side with Germany due to my ethnic heritage, though.

Ah ah, don't you mean American men? the women seem to enjoy it a fair bit, what I don't understand is why Americans play Rugby with pads...although you guys are missing out, its the world's biggest tournament!

Anyway if you do ask me, Germany seems a very daunting side, almost so much more then Argentina (although Argentina proved a point with 6-0) I was glad to see France go through (okay that's un understatement, I was rooting for them all the way through their match) and of course, I'll be rooting for England to naturally, although, come on, why are media giants thinking Rooney would make a difference? its Gerrard thats the best player England's got.

I wouldn't even go that far. Sure, our women's team is pretty damn good, but the fact of the matter is that the vast majority of Americans of all sexes just don't care about the sport. Aside from recent immigrants from Mexico and other Latin American countries, I'd be astonished if there were more than a few million Americans that really liked the sport and over a few hundred thousand that followed it with any form of regularity. I'll admit that I watch soccer on ocassion, but that's only if there's really nothing else on.

And I don't understand why rugby isn't popular either...... and meat pies....... God damn, I miss meat pies so much..... I don't know if they're available in BP's over in Britain, but they're literally one of the best foods down in New Zealand.... I mean, it's meat and cheese in a pastry that's portable! It should be everything that us Americans love!

There are various terms. Mercy, because it left the other team begging for it, blowout which is just a general term for sports where there was no contest, or you could say they "killed" the other team, beat the hell out of em... It doesn't really matter, people will understand ;).

And I take pride in being one of the 37 Americans that likes soccer =P.

Well England are again kicked out of another major tournament, again at the quarter-finals and again by Portugal and again at penalties! damnit and I thought this was their year ;"_"; (And HA to all those people who thought Wayne Rooney would make a difference, I always knew he'd let the team down, his just another over rated footballer)

Anyway my first team of choice would have to be Germany since England have been kicked out. Germany seems to be the best side in the tournament so far and I'm hoping they'll go all the way and get the world cup, them, or France (but I doubt they'll stand a chance against Brazil, unless they get back in form again)

No way was this England's year, they only barely got where they did from the skin of their teeth. They really deserved to win todays match though, as they really fighted for it. Still, it's deja vu all over again!

Nah, in every game England played, they showed they could win but they were unable to finish. But if you look at it this way, almost all major teams have under proformed at one point of this world cup. England had one of the best team and you can't deny that. Its just they were unable to finish of some of their foot play.

Oh well suppose France or Brazil are going to get revenge for England anyway XP

EDIT: Looks like its France vs Portugal, since I'm a Arsenal fan, here's hoping that Henry can make a big difference and that Zidane shows some of that skill he used to beat Brazil in 1998 again!

Personally, i started losing all faith in our team ages ago, but now i've just lost faith in football period, i mean France beating Brazil? if you said that before France 98, you'd be laughed at. Its such a shame that this tournament has "DULL" written all over it. I mean the Germany vs Argentina game was such a boring game, much like a lot of the tournament.

Contray to popular belief, France was playing as if they were Brazil, if you watched the game, France played superb! no this isn't the same team that was struggling in the group stages, no this was the team that have finally learnt how to play in sync. What ever threat Brazil was driving in France, France's defence held. Not only their defence, but their attacking force was absolute, hell if this was any team but Brazil, I'm sure the victory would be larger then 1-0
After all, this French side has players from Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Juventus, its not that France is a crap team (far from it) its just their manager has had problems trying to harness the players ability.
All the major teams did however lack something early on. Maybe because I'm more of a football fan then most but the tournament has been a mixed bag for me (although I shall say that its been an exciting tournament and there has been the great matches here and there!)

Fewer times have there been more useless teams.

I reckon Brazil or Argentina will win, but I want Portugal/Italy to win because if they do I GET MONEY.

I was cheering for Italy.
I don't like France, considering I'm forced to speak it in school.
Plus my cousins are part Italian :).

Zidane's headbutt was still the highlight of the world cup, even if its been a not so superb one (the world cup) Germany beat Argentina in penalties, then Portugal beat England in penalties and then the final of the most watched tournament in the world, the winner seeking for the most sort out trophy, and its decided through penalties (I wouldnt have minded if both team were leveled at like 3 all instead of 1 all) this world cup no team played exceptional, but my congrats to Italy, one more and you'll equalise with Brazil! Now I feel sorry for the Italian players considering their all be fired today from their clubs, probeley end up in Chelsea, Manchester United or Arsenal.
