Damn straight.
I heard this on the telly just a little while ago and couldn't belive it. Makes you feel good to know that the world's richest man realises there's more to life than money.

He was knighted last year wasn't he?
Better late than never i guess.
Well, it's good that he wants to allocate the money he has earned into more charities. He's been giving into charities alot too for a while, it's not like he jst got up and decided to do it now, he has always given alot to charity.
Let's hope he appoints someone in 2008 who would be able to be kind like he is.

He may have been kind to the world, but his never been kind in his role of business, constently trying to force competitors off the market and causing monoplization created too much economic efficiency (one such being the bugs apparent in certain Window products) but hey, its good to know the Xbox has been doing next to nothing for Microsoft's plan of world domination! (note I don't hate Gates, just his business ethics) and I doubt he'll get someone nice, it'll probeley be some bastard we will all learn to hate with a bloated ego and confidence in the consumer confidence of his product, like the current Sony president!
Anyway nice to know he'll be at hand trying to solve problems of the third world soon!
yeah! I hate bill gates. What he has been doing to the japansese is not right. If he didn't step down then he would have forced the Anime world into oblitration. In other words he would find away to get rid of it.

Er how the heck did you come to that conclusion? and what has he been doing to the Japanese? XD
What are you talking about, Haukura? What has this got to do with anime at all? O_o

...?!
As far as I'm aware, Bill Gates and 'DESTROY ANIME!' has as much relation as Chantelle to talent.
Regarding Bill Gates' business strategy- He does his job very, very, very, very well. Pity that the road to success involves ensuring that you're the only one left racing it.
Microsoft aren't the evil corportation everyone makes them out to be (T'is Sony. THEY are the enemy!) they just have a very sucky operating system.

The sucky operating system is thanks to Gates business strategy, without a major rival, companies tend to slack off on trying to make their goods better since they are either the largest or only market provider, causing them to be more laid back and then creating flawed goods.
I actually don't understand how you can consider Sony evil but Microsoft not? they both seem to be unethical, what with Microsoft buying companies in the early days to produce games for the Xbox and Sony robbing Nintendo's controller design sort of and both have been responsible of knocking their rivals out of the market (whilst Sony hadn't stretch to the same length to as Microsoft, who had procedded to give out free copies of certain programs eg. Internet Explorer) I have no problem with the road to success but once theres only one provider of a market good, well they just go down hill from there.
Ahem how far I've strayed, sorry about that people, carry on!
Well, Bill in the early days bought alot of his wealth too, as some of you may know. He bought alot of things in the technology world that was succeeding and his wallet got fat off that. But everyone has a good point, Like Hendrix said, he is doing "well" by business standards by making him his only competitor. Aki is right too, becuase it's economically unsafe to have one provider of a good (Monopoly). So I dunno, let's just hope there isn't anyone worse than Gates to take over Microsoft.
I say it straight right now. Bill Gates has over ... well we all know how much he has (thus who knows :g-twitch: )Well, by that kinda money, he could make Africa like a modern Japan, I guess. And SONY asked Bill Gates personnaly, to be his "ally". Bill Gates said it straight " I dont want to work with "small people"". Ofcourse after that, SONY got mad, and ... just visit Japan, and let's see how many Microsoft products will you find :g-drop:

It cost £3 billion to develop the new shopping center, block of apartments and a cinema in my borough of Hounslow (Outside of Central London but part of greater London) so please tell me...how the hell can he have enough money to make Africa modern Japan? I think you've over estimated his wealth, the amount of money that Africa needs is far far far far more then the money Bill Gates has...far far far more.
And Microsoft products? you forget that people in Japan also use Windows OS oh and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS-tan and how would Sony disliking Microsoft have a effect on their sales?
Well obviously you took it too literally.... I lived in Japan myself for 6 years... thus obviously ya, maybe things have changed there , well ofcourse they have, but.... in the whole, There ain't as much Microsoft products as in... Europe. This is source comes from www.wikipedia.com , now ofcourse how would a 14 year-old-kid know this?? ofcourse... rip from wikipedia ;D
Anyways...... Bill Gates looks kinda like.... dead when he was 17-year-old...
i don't know why everyone hates Bill Gates..
I mean; yes he is greedy, and yes, he might have the monopoly over the computers market..
and what??
don't start with the crap that if you were him, you would use your money to help others, and that you wouldn't try to defeat the compentence; becuase everyone knows that's a lie...
the people is greddy for nature; and just a minority of people isn't it, and guess what ... i think all of us are a bit greedy ...
if not, we would have sold our computers, and give our money to the poor, wouldn't we?...
i'm selous of bill gate, but i don't think people have to hate him (exept for his competence  )
salu2's
According to good old Wikipedia Bill's given $28 billion dollars to charitable causes. Which almost makes up for all those blue screens and Windows Vista.

Bill Gates=Hottest Nerd EVER!
If you strike it rich, be like Bill. Bill Gates is a man who's good with his money. You don't see him in a hot tub chillin with the hos wearing a blinged-out laptop on his neck. And I'm glade he's actually using his riches to benefit the rest of the human race.

Compentence? I'll take it you meant competition? its not a question if I was Gates, its a question of the problem he has caused for the market and his unethical "bullying" he has done, and you know what, his caused a few blue screens and programming glitches thanks to that. Not all companies have acted in a way just so you know, Nintendo didn't force SEGA out of the market that they more or less controlled, yet Microsoft did with their rivals. And lets not forget Microsoft tried to "buy" out their competition ie Nintendo (met with funny comedy moments!)
Your forgetting the fact that computers have become a necessity in recent times, if you'd said something like "you would have settled with that small screen, or just played football rather then computer games" that arguement would hold value...and some of us do give our money to the poor ^_^
