See the announcement bar? You should check it often, the rules have been updated slightly to correct a few misconceptions.

Secondly, and more importantly, since we've weeded out the majority of the thickies who think just because they haven't read the rules, means it doesn't apply to them, etc, the temporary banning systems is back in place.

The "10 points you're out" was in place to get rid of members, whom, quite frankly, we didn't want here. You know which ones we're talking about. Most of them sit in the "Banned Members" topic.
(I guess the fact you can't join unless you bother to read the rules helps rid ourselves of complete shitheads too.)

Still, the temp bannings have been brought back for a reason, now we're mostly free of thickies, this means longtime members won't be outright perma-banned if they do something really stupid (http://www.sprites-inc.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=219294#post219294).

There will still be instances where you will be outright banned for rulebreaking, (racist comments, posting pornographic content, gay bashing, etc) but basically, it gives you a second chance.

After you come back, how-ever, mods have the full right to turn that temp-ban into a permament one, should you step out of line again.

Understood? :P

PS:
Guys, some of your signatures are getting a bit big again, please cut them down slightly. See my signature? Don't get any bigger than that. Thanks.

Discussion - Are there any rules you think need further clarification? I intend to help clear up the whole language barrier issues regarding confusion with a few terms used, but other than that, is anything not clear in the rules? :P

Please ATTEMPT to type correctly, at least ATTEMPT to use English without totaly butchering it. Even if English is your second language, theres no excuses for the following:
a) Lack of captial letters entirely. This is REALLY annoying to read, be sure to use captial letters at the start of sentances and the start of names. It's basic grammer folks. This is stuff you learn in Primary/Kindergarten, folks. Stop making yourself look like idiots. This is a forum, not a chat room.
b) Use the Enter key when its logical to.
c) Spelling. I may not be a great speller, but even I can spell things like "The". The fact some people here can't, even when English IS their first language is very depressing.
d) No l33t, no txt, and definately no "lol". Save lol's for chat rooms.

I was wondering if you'd kind of, well... Maybe be just a liiiiiiiittle bit stricter on these rules? I know I'm sounding a little homogeneous, but I've talk to most of the people here whose first language is English, and most of them STILL won't type correctly. >,<

... 3) Don't bash people's work - offer critique, yes, but no bashing. Unless said person claims to be the greatest spriter that ever lived, and all they've offered is a blue Zero with a head swap.
This is getting quite annoying too. If you don't have anything to say, then don't say "Wow, that's good," because that isn't very helpful, critiquely-wise.

Another thing that REALLY gets on my nerves is when someone types up a reaaaaaaaaly good critique post, and someone else just quotes that and says "'Nuff said," or "Nothing much to add here," just for the post count.

... 14) DON'T BUMP TOPICS THAT ARE OVER ONE MONTH OLD!
Though I can understand this, isn't it quite useless to make another thread just because the other one died, and almost no-one knew about it? Why not just resurrect it?

Sorry for the long post. XP

I have an idea about ressurecting instead of making a new topic.

Just ask a mod for permission. If they deem it ok, go for it.

That sounds reasonable. We'll just have to wait for ACE or soviet to answer, since they're the Administrators. :P

Something is getting miscommunicated here, because that system is basically in place already. If someone posts a relevant change in information, broadly speaking, after a month of inactivity, then the rules either allow it or the mods will ignore it. This has been blatantly stated several times. If you don't believe me, then you didn't bother with the minute it took me to dig up an example. There's a difference between typing understandably and typing perfectly. If I see it and it passes under my grammar-Nazi radar, then it's probably fine. If it's really, horribly bad, enough to merit reporting it... well, I think you can follow my train of thought here.

While it usually better to offer crits when you can, it is alright for there to be some posts that are just praise. But I think I mentioned in the C+C blurb in the rules thread that if you are going to do that, you've got to say why you like it at least.

As for the other thing you mentioned, yes, that is absolutely stupid. If you see anyone do that, feel free to hit the report button. You can probably report people for giving lack of crit, but I don't think they'd get a warning for just posting, "good job," their post will probably be deleted instead. And even then, I doubt it would be enforced that much... But that "nuff said" crap is something that I'd consider warning someone for. :P

Thank you SOOO much, Blackbeltdude. I also have another question.

I'm also getting really tired of when people (mostly newbs) bump year-old topics, or maybe do something they're not supposed to do (like bump/steal sprites from Turpinator's ZX Rangers, for example), and members post replies saying "Oooooh! Turp/-insert username here- is gonna SCREW you BAD. Reported."

Isn't this considered minimodding, as well as spam?

Bumping is alright as long you're adding to the conversation. Year-old thread or not (I think we mentioned this already in this topic).

And using the report button isn't mini-modding. :P Posting, "Oh, you're in trouble now" is annoying and stupid. If, for example, a member caught someone stealing and they CALMLY explained to them what they did, and why they should do it, and what they should do to fix it, that'd also be fine. I would consider that member being a good member, and not mini-modding (they should also hit the report button anyhow).

Mini-modding is when a member THINKS they have some authority over the other members in the forum.

Also, try not to hate "newbs" for mistakes they make. :P You've all been "newbs," and you've ALL made dumb mistakes (even the staff makes some too, since we're human). :P

Topic bumping is a thing that really gets on my nerves. It just does. By the time a topic is dead you've already lost track of what the topic was about, perticularly for large topics. Indeed, it is far simplier to create a new topic that dig up the old one.

If you think you have something worthwhile to say on a topic... feel free to PM a mod. There are always exceptions, such as your own artwork and comic threads, or even bumping your thread in the sprites inc submissions forum.

Okay, I was just unsure about that. Thanks, all of you. ^-^
