ace_spark said on his website you cant rip the 3d sprites well i'm here to disprove that. here is something i was going to use for a new epilouge series but i'll let people see it now. it is ripped from megaman: powered up. it's iceman!

Thats not a sprite. Don't try to prove Ace wrong. Ever.

*sigh*
You can't rip 3d "sprites". Because 3d games don't use sprites for characters. (Exception are games that use flat characters like Doom, but recent games certainly don't use that, so thats moot.)
Theres things like Camera angles and the like to put into consideration. Also - just go ahead and try ripping all of Iceman's frames from MMPU. Every single different one.
And then don't tell me 3d sprites are rippable.

Here's something else to take into consideration as to why 3d "sprites" are not rippable.
Most 3d games run from anywhere between 30fps and 60fps.
Unlike 2d games, there actually are, 30fps to 60fps for each object thats moving.
So if Iceman's walk animation takes 10 seconds to loop round, thats 600 indiviual frames.
You prepared to rip that many frames for just a walk animation?
That Iceman "sprite" looks more like a shrunken-down version of the widely-distributed model artwork with a magenta background thrown in. Heck, I could do that right now and call it a "ripped sprite." It's not hard and not proof of anything.
I still gotta get ahold of Battle&Chase and see if I can't extract the models from it, which the last time I checked, are not sprites. Models are not sprites.
And 600 frames is a hell of alotta frames to not only rip, but to assemble and hell... try RENDERING that amount of frames! It took me 14 friggin' hours to render 600 frames!
QuickEdit: Just made a "ripped" Iceman "sprite." It'd be pretty convincing if it weren't for the "ITmedia" logo on the bottom corner.

OMG it's a RIPPED SPRITE!! Puh-lease.
You CAN rip renders, Its that you have to look at it differently that looking at ripping sprites. You go into the file that holds the render information and rip the skins and wireframe. The Wireframe is not an image file so hosting would not work unless every one uses MAX or Maya, but ripping skins impossible.
Someone teach ths guy what the difference between 2D and 3D is.

Lord of nightmares, you're absolutely right, but ACE is talking about when peolple try to rip 3D sprites like in MMX8. It's not happening. Consider this: How many pixels does a character in a 3D game turn when you rotate the camera 360 degrees? For each one, multiply that by 100 or so, and you have you're "Standing there breathing" sprites. If you want to spend 9999 (I'm on an FFIX binge; self explanitory) hours ripping one 3D model (3D sprites are prerendered), be my guest, but you'll still be an idiot.
...Jeeze. Next thing people will be trying to do is take 999999999 pictures of some guy and then try to rip his poses.

Okay, so you ripped one pose. Now rip every pose in every possible camera angle and rotation considering they're models and not 2D images.

And don't forget the anti-aliasing. You have to do the antialiasing.
And ***damnit, this belongs in the rip section, despite it's falsity (I'm to tired to think of the correct word).

How do you rip sprites.

To rip regular 2D sprites, you need an emulator that can play a ROM (A game program file). Then, if the emulator is advanced enough, you should be able to rip out the background layers, leaving only the hero and enemy sprites. Take a screenshot, erase the (Annoyingly bright) BG, and you've got a sprite.
Note: A "complete" sprite sheet will have all of the poses the character in the game can possibly use.

What emulator do you use, Dragon Zero?

Well, I'm not sure. I have one, but I'm not the one who obtained it. try Googling it, or something.
PM,put that in a PM.
God,read the fucking rules.

Rags: NetSave is perfectly within the rules asking about Emus, so long as he doesn't ask about Roms, or Warez, he is fine.
Just to add insult to injury, MegaL, Ace is right there is no such thing as a 3D"sprite", now I don't know alot about MMPU, but I think that in that game, you only view them from one side, unless I'm wrong, so that would dramaticly cut down on the amount of renders, or models I don't know which is which. On the other hand, if the game does allow you to view the characters from different sides, then it would take alot of time to get all of the frames.

Hmmm... MMPU doesn't have camera angles. It doesn't use the same engine as X8 (which had some levels where the camera turned). Still you may say it's crazy and stupid but honestly wouldn't you like to see some? I sure as hell would.

Again, that would still take a rediculous amount of time and be a waste of it. Besides, you're still not actually ripping the models, since the actual models do have infinite camera angles. You'd just be cutting out pictures. Plus, any anti-aliasing on the outsides makes it impossible anyway.
Anti Aliasing Suck. This thread is err... of no use except for insulting so-and- so's idiocity.
Taking Pics of them is easy, but ripping is impossible.
well... it's true you can't rip and 3D object...
also, what he has "ripped" it's just a cut off picture...
THOUGHT (and this is an important point, not to offense ace), you can use some cut off pictures (like the one this guy posted) to make a 2D Animated sprite...
i mean, think about; this guy (or anyone) could screensave the action of walking of iceman (for example) in the same camara position (not the whole 600 "sprites"; but he could takes 50 "sprites" with a good time distance between) ...
and then put them in a sheet...
and,BOALA (i don't know how to write this); you have sprites 2D of a 3D MODEL ...
...
althought, this would be a very, very complicated JOB; so i don't think anyone would like to do it ... so don't ask anyone to rip them (if you want them, do it ok?) ..
well... that's all..

Yeah the stuff I ripped came from game saves, which can also be found on you're PSP's memory stick. I ripped one sprite and I didn't do it from the game itself but from a screenshot.

Also, even though I haven't played MMPU, I wager it has dynamic lighting on the characters. Another wrench

So according to you I can, take several pictures of myself, delete the background, put them together in a single file and it would be a sprite sheet? Now riddle me this, were you born an idiot or did you work at it?

Be warned!!
MJ:Ya know,he won't be warned,you can do that.
You Will be warned,for spam.Reported
MegaLink:Ya know,Reclor that,see how easy that is,Can't do it,3D modles,MODELS,CanNOT be riped,in a useful manner.

Rags officially owns this thread. I'm not going to argue the usefulness of 3D Models, of course they are no good for editing, but perhaps for random trivial things, they have a use.
This thread should have been locked the second it was made. How many times has the "You cannot rip 3D models" point been made?
Why it hasn't been locked is beyond me.
