This is the SSBB thread to end all SSBB threads, DISCUSS NOW, OR I SHALL DESTROY YOU

Official SSBB website (http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/index.html)

Because the old one reached 99 pages.

Last update were Meta Knight's special moves.

Eh, might as well post my version of the update again so people don't miss it. >_>

DOUBLE UPDATE: Meta Knight's Special Moves

Standard Special: Mach Tornado: From what I've seen it sucks players in, like Link's new boomerang, or Mario's spin move. It moves from side to side as you hold it down, and if you tap the button MK rises off the floor a bit.

Side Special: Drill Rush: Plow horizontally into enemies like a drill (MK's sword being the tip), semi-controllable. (can be tilted for direction)

Up Special: Shuttle Loop: Similar to Kirby's up special (Sword Kirby), but doesn't have a quick, uncontrollable drop after going up.

Down Special: Dimesional Cape: Basically MK wraps himself in his cape disappears, and reappears. (reappearance location is contollable) If holding the attack button while performing this move, he'll finish it with a quick swipe right after he reappears.

A reintroduction to gliding appears in this moves list as well.

Final Thoughts: Cheapest. Character. EVER. I mean, how the heck CAN'T you get back to the stage once you're hit far as MK?

Music: Meta Knight's Revenge

Jazzified remix to an old song. Ohhh, can't stop dancing. *Dances uncontrollably*

Metaknight's down move reminds me of Marth/Roy's Counter. If Ike doesn't get Counter, this will do for me... I hope it's a fast move too... His other moves are just ownage, first character I'm going to play as will definitely be Metaknight.

They're keeping us in suspense, it's a selling tactic. But seriously, would you be happy knowing everything about a game before it's released? Where's the surprise? Where's the fun?

Regardless of that fact, I agree with whoever said MK cheapest chatacter ever, simply because all of his moves allow him to pretty much get back to the edge. How totally lame.Zyros will kill me in my sleep for this.

From what I found, while Meta is an insane juggle master, little lag, and has great multi-hit attacks, he lacks power, good KOing moves, and air speed. So, it all balances out in the end.

Somebody may have said this, but I'm too lazy to look

why are they giving us crap for two weeks. . . I don't like these past two weeks. . .why don't they go back to when they introduced Wi-Fi, and Co-Op, and Sonic. . .y'know, the good stuff

Whaa, whaa, whaa. All you guys care about is the good updates. Think about how hard it is for them to reveal stuff without revealing the whole game, every weekday, day-in day-out, until it gets released, which is much later now. They've got to stretch what they currently have, so people are entertained until it gets released, and I'm sure they'll STILL have some secrets up their sleeves even after that. Be thankful little children, you actually GET updates. >_<

Advent Axl

Update: Spectator Mode.

Basically, if enabled before the match, anyone over the WiFi can watch the match.

Also, spectators can now bet coins on characters during a match.

The payoff increases with more players in the match.

At the end of the match, everyone watching gets stickers.

Edit: Outposted.

Dude, seriously, grow up. If your head was on straight you'd notice that I'm usually the one who updates the thread with the new stuff immediately as it gets put onto the site, I've played SSB and SSBM, I keep inputting info from previous installments and other series games into my updates that SBD fails to mention, etc.; I don't think you can get any more "into the game" than that. :P

Speaking of noticing stuff, if you look at the character screen you'll notice some suit changes for some of the characters. I would've wished Link had his Zora suit from TP instead of a generic blue tunic that looks identical to the green one. >_>

I'm not getting mad, you're just taking things too seriously.

My main point, the point I've been stressing this whole time is simply this: Take it easy. I understand you guys are very excited and cannot wait to get your hands on more information/the game itself, but they're trying really hard to get the mechanics right. In the meantime the updates are only meant as teasers, stressing about them not telling the whole story is pretty pointless, because the main intent of the updates were MEANT to make you think that way. Advertising 101: Make the consumer absolutely want everything about the product you are selling.

Y'see? Even though I'm really excited, I'm still using the ol' noodle when taking a look at the stuff they show. *knocks against head*

UPDATE: Ice Climber's Final Smash: Iceberg

Yes, you heard me, ICEBERG, and I don't mean a medium sized icecube, I mean a HUGE honking iceberg that takes up practically the whole stage! When this move is executed the Ice Climbers high five and the iceberg is assumed to rise from the ground up. When the iceberg appears it will cover most of the area, including some platforms, and damage opposing characters. It will also make the remaining platforms slippery to walk on for players (not including the climbers, it is their move :P). This move also has the ability to freeze opponents, talk about giving a cold sendoff. XD

Fluttershy
19-11-07, 11:33
You forgot to say that the Iceberg can make the platforms smaller.

Question: Do you guys think different players could have final smash ability at the same time?

If it is possible wonder what would happen if two final smashs happened at the same time.

Question: Do you guys think different players could have final smash ability at the same time?

Different players can't have Final Smash's at the same time. Only 1 Smash Ball appears per round. So, it's impossible.

NDraxian0
19-11-07, 16:17
I thought it said charectors could only USE thier final smash once per round?

Aen
19-11-07, 16:26
Probably. I can't remember. :P

But other than that, the chances of there being 2 Smash Balls on the field at one time is like having 2 of the same Pokemon come out of different Pokeballs at the same time.

Even if there's only 1 Smash Ball, two players can't get it at the same time.

NDraxian0
19-11-07, 16:43
Well... I figured that... I mean like one player saved thier final smash until another smash ball appeared...

Also... If multiple smash balls appear... does that mean Samus actually can use 2 final smashes? (One as zero suit!)

Aen
19-11-07, 16:46

I don't think that's possible. I think there's a time limit to how long you can wait until unleashing your attack.

Zero-Suit Samus does not have a Final Smash. Not that we know of, anyway. But I really, REALLY doubt she does. After all, Masahiro Sakurai says
"That really was her last trump card." Meaning, after using her Final Smash and shedding her armor, that's it.

What if you'd spawn Smash Balls during training mode? Couldn't she grab one then?

Aen

Yes, she could. But that doesn't mean it would do anything. Also, we don't even know if you can spawn Smash Balls during training. Though it'd be common sense to do so, we do not know if they want that feature.

I'm not very certain about that. According to this video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=-9bqdOH3js0) (the same that Advent Axl and Zyros posted), between 48 and 54 seconds into the video, Zero Suit Samus seems to have a final smash (where she regains her armor).

Speaking of that video..... it looks like one of Samus's suit changes is the basic Fusion suit from the colours, but on further inspection it looks more like a recoloured Varia suit. These suit changes are starting to be a major letdown. T_T

EDIT: Another thought occurred to me ... if you can manipulate the songs for stages and create stages with stage builder... what stops you from putting songs onto the game to play during stages? It would be awesome if they show that ability to be available. ^^

EDIT: EDIT: It also looks like a suit change for DK is a Yeti Kong type thing. (meaning he gets snow-white fur)

DOUBLE UPDATE: Smart Bomb

This very explosive item comes to us from the Star Fox series, and as all Star Fox fans know, this thing packs a PUNCH! First you pick it up, then you toss it in the direction you want it to go; When it lands it'll make a huge ball of carnage that increases in size, sometimes engulfing the whole stage. (depends which stage) But beware, if the user gets caught in the resulting chaos, he'll be damaged too. There's always a possiblity that it doesn't go off right away, so when that happens, keep an eye on it while continuing your battle; You may never know, it could spark back to life at any random time. Electrode and the ability for explosive pokemon to fizzle are mentioned in this update as well.

UPDATE: Colour Changes

A short list of some of the suit changes characters have. HA! It confirms (almost in exact detail I might add) some of the depictions I made of the suits I saw in SC's video on my second last post. Yeti DK and a normal Samus suit recoloured to look like the Fusion suit.

Mario: Reverse colour Mario (Red overalls, blue hat and shirt), Wario Mario, Fire Mario *New*, and brown overalls, white shirt Mario (can't depict him any other way >_>)

DK: Yeti DK

Link: A freaking kickass TP version Dark Link (red glowy eyes included), and generic blue tunic Link.

Samus: Fusion suit recolour.

Fox: An attractive black ensemble, with white and red trim colours. (I feel like a fashion nut now >_>)

Pikachu: Goggles (like Pichu), Trainer hat (Ash's hat), and green bandana (Emerald trainer's bandana).

Zelda: Original colours and design Zelda (I would assume from OoT, check Zelda's page to see the difference), and black/Dark Zelda.

Pit: I don't think I could say it better than the site; Golden, and Fallen Angel suit changes.

Ike: "Ordinary soldier" colours, and golden colours.

Snake: Different camouflages from MGS3. (I haven't played the game so I don't know the specific names)

Black and white Ice climbers?

Shiny Black Ike?
Shadow colored Sonic?

Yeti DK looks scared white.

DOUBLE UPDATE: Lucas's Final Smash: PK Starstorm

Basically when Lucas unleashes his attack he floats up into the air a bit, calls out the attack (unconfirmed, but highly assumed), and in lamense terms a meteor shower hits the WHOLE field. While EXTREMELY hard to dodge, I would consider it's somewhat possible to do so.

Charged Special Moves:

Basically a rundown of the basics of charged SM's, nothing we don't already know from Meelee.

His final smash reminds me of one of Zero's skills in X6. But I doubt that it is a knock-out move, it'll probably just deal lots of damage. Because if it's a knock out move... it'd be too cheap and unfair from the other characters' final smashes... (Most of them only smack out one or two opponents, like Metaknight and Kirby)

I'm still wondering what snake's final smash will be.

Nice to know you can turn off jumping with the Control Stick. That kind of annoyed me in Melee.

I hope the "Grab" button this time isn't pressure sensitive like in melee. Because I'm setting Grab to R-shoulder to make the Dash-dance grab flow nicely. (in stead of dash dancing and light shielding... bleh.) I wonder if you can set a combination of buttons to a single button...

And yes, I'll be setting "tilt jump" off as well.

Wow. I hate to say it, but we really have thought of everything.
As much as I'd like to say "Wow, they really have," they haven't. I mean, they've covered a lot of stuff, but instead of just different colors for characters, they should have put in alternate costumes.

Though I know that doing so would've just taken even longer, if they did, I would be more than happy to wait.

Remember that they're limited in all kinds of things. Time, space, etcetrapehpeh. Remember that for each costume, you'd have to create extra models, extra textures, possibly extra programming, and consider all sorts of other program-wise things. Also, some characters simply don't HAVE any possible alternate costumes(like Pit) and it would almost seem like Nintendo didn't care about them if they gave them alternate costumes.

I was wondering... Could Nintendo possibly have updates for games like this that can be bought on the Wii's shop channel?

Say for example that Mega Man doesn't make it into Brawl... But latter on they decide that they wanted him in after all. Could they include more characters into the game latter on by those means? *This is of course assuming they went through all the legal issues with Capcom*

Aikin

So far they fixed Wave Dashing, but Dash Dancing is still in by demo standards. (Flicking the left and right control stick very fast, resulting in a character that pivots in place instantly. Yet this can only be done during the 'start-up' frames of dashing.) Which technically, can fixed by adding the "stopping frames" to the start up animations.
Yet the pressure sensitive 'grab' button would be nice for dash grabbing too. As I hate it when I'm jogging up and I flick out a shield instead of a grab.

Now this is an interesting thought. They probably could, but the problem here would be that all downloads go directly to a Wii Space. Plus, it would probably be one of those free downloads, so people might now have SSBB and just download it, and waste a space or whatever.
Though, really, I'm just bitching about it. The idea itself is quite interesting.

27-11-07, 11:45
Yes, yes, I know what Dash Dancing is. I just group it in with Wavedashing and L-Canceling and such... But wait...

They fixed Wavedash? Has this been proven?

Yep, its all thanks to how aerial dodges work. In Brawl, Air dodging is worked much differently. Instead of stopping like a cartoon character in mid air and gaining a few invincibility frames, you keep traveling along your trajectory and gain invincibility frames. In addition, air dodging does not "kill" your jump and you may act normally after dodging. (Doubling jump-if able-, attack, recover...) You may also air dodge multiple times, but there is a delay between when one can air dodge again.
So, with out the ability to control one's air dodge, wave dashing on command has been rendered useless. Yet a few people Wave Landed... But its not really the same as wave dashing. I found this info on Smash boards and Neoseeker from people who have played the demo.

Also, L-canceling is not a glitch. Cutting lag down from attacks by pushing a button(s) at the right time is a common technique in fighting games. Brawl still has it, but since many animations have been sped up, L canceling is only useful for attacks like Link's down air when he hits the ground or Bowser's back aerial A.

Forte
27-11-07, 13:54
Sounds good to me. So I guess you can't airdodge downward or upward anymore? But not having it steal your movement more than makes up for it.

This update is yet another dissapointing one for me... I have not had a chance to listen to the DK music, but if it isn't the DK Rap, I'm sure it's going to be good.

Terry von Feledae

I don't like it that much personally; It just seems like a series of random sounds rather than real music to me. But then again, it was based off music that is old even for NES standards, so what should I expect? :/

Cleaning House in Skyworld: You're Pit and the enemy is Wario, you've got to destroy all the breakable floors, Wario stops you from accomplishing this. (but assumed to have a tendency to screw up and help you instead :P)

Sleeping in the Eggs: You play as Yoshi and you must turn both opponents into eggs at the same time to win. (Kirby and Pikachu shown as enemies in screenshot, may be randomized)

Because they'd have to buy the license for him. I can only assume theres so much budget for the license. Same applies to Brawl.

EDIT:

Hang on. There's a Treasure character in Brawl, alibiet as an Assist Trophy... I doubt Geno would appear as playable but an Assist Trophy is definately more likely.

Ridley can still go either way. My fingers are crossed he's playable, because Metroid needs another representative.

... and yes. I want to do a tourney with the Sprites INC players. We can only hope theres no lag issues.

Ah, this may be late, but whatever.

If you have a Wii, there's no excuse not to have Brawl, as Forte said. However, if you're on Inc, it means you have internet, meaning, your Wii can hook up to it no problem. ;p

At any rate, I'd love for the Blue Bomber to be in, but right now, it doesn't seem like things are going that.

Chances are though, that most places have all their copy's reserved already (though I know some places take as many rreservations as people make, even if they won't be receiving that many copies). Not saying they are, just saying it's likely.

Update: Returning Pokemon

Just a list of returning Pokemon from the last games.

Suicune
Lugia
Entei
Staryu
Bellossom
Ho-Oh
Wobbuffet
Togepi
Snorlax
Celebi
Mew

It appears Mew may drop a CD when it appears. And like always, rare Pokemon will appear few and far between.

Excuse me, but is this thread about SSBB or about Turp's update notyfying schedule? :P

In any case, is it just me or are most of these Pokémon somewhat low-poly? I know that that's on close-up and you probably won't see that during normal gameplay, but still... Well, I guess it's better than using their sprites. :P

I noticed that too, I almost thought they were using their old models from Meelee.

And my schedule is important to me. :P

The poly count on them is low in order to save space, probably. That's what I think, anyway.

Zyros
04-12-07, 11:24
One question: Why do you guys keep complaining abour the updates? It's really annoying.

It's like you guys want them to hand you a guidebook to everything in the game before it even comes out. Not only that, you're treating the updates as a right, when they're a priviledge! Shut up already; it's better than nothing, right?

*Ahem*

So yeah, I'm happy that Luigia's back. I'm not a gan of Pokemon anymore, but he'll always a spot in my heart... If I had a heart that is.

@KR: Seems that way, with all the things they're putting in this game, they need to make room somewhere and all the things can be top-notch graphics/polygon count. But when were graphics ever important anyways?

*Points to Super Mario 64*

EDIT: Great. Now you guys have me complaining about people complaining! My head hurts. >.<

Forte
04-12-07, 13:20
I think it would probably be cooler if they did use the sprites for the pokemon >_>... well come on, it's what makes the retro assist trophies cool. Besides, who really pays attention to the pokemon? I never look at them when they pop up to say "Ooh look at the pretty pokemans!", and aside from that, I never use items unless I'm playing adventure/classic mode and I have to. So the low poly count doesn't really bother me. That's like getting mad at the fact the food is flat.

oh well, I guess no Geno either, I expected as much though. I'm not sure whether I would be glad to see him or not, but I know for a fact him being in would own having Starforce version RockMan, which you KNOW they would probably use.

I'd take Model X over SF Megaman any day.

Pinkie Pie
04-12-07, 16:43
I get the feeling they've simply recycled the Pokemon models from the previous game and altered the textures slightly. They DO look out of place by quite a bit.

Then again, they're adding in assist trophies, which seem to get the same amount of work that the main characters get, so we can't expect everything to be top notch simply because of budget reasons.

Zyros
04-12-07, 17:11
Yeah, we have to remember that it's a video game, and that regardless of how much profit it will make, they still have a budget and a max disk space. They're including a lot for the players to do, so don't expect everything to blow you away graphics-wise.

I'm sure it won't effect the gameplay, so really, who cares?

Pinkie Pie
04-12-07, 17:37
You probably won't notice it in game. But as far as pre-release screenshots go, it's easily noticiable.

NDraxian0
04-12-07, 18:02
Just thought of something...
One of the last updates before the release date (If not the last) will likely be what you can do on the charector select screen... (Unless they've shown the charector select screen already)
Mainly because although it would be a tame update... it would be most informative... as it could easily be used to guess at the number of secret charectors....

Oh and personally I'd like a megaman... but if nintendo goes out and buys geno outright (Turning him from a 3rd party to a 1st) and he gets in too that would rock(really wishful thinking)...

Zyros
04-12-07, 18:25
They've already done an update concerning character selection, maybe two concerning the topic if I'm not mistaken.

I still don't know who Geno is, but a Megaman Model ZX or a Star Force Megaman seems likely should anyone form the franchise be in the game. Though, with Star Force 2 coming out, it would probably be the Star Force Megaman.

The saddest thing I see about your post is that you have never played Super Mario RPG: One of the best games of the Forth Generation area.
The other sad thing is that you want the ZX or Starforce Megaman in. If Mega is weaseling in, he's bringing his classic duds for sure.

DOUBLE UPDATE: The Battle for the Smash Ball

Basically a rundown of the Final Smash technique, how to get it, and the opportune time to use it.

*Special Note: New info regarding the ability to smack the final smash ability out of someone after they aquired the smash ball.

Music: X: Tunnel Scene (not Megaman)

A song based off of a Japan-only GB game called "X". Also an explaination of the inclusion of music from series that don't have any relevance to the Smash franchise other than the music itself being added to the music lists.

UPDATE: King Dedede's Final Smash: Waddle Dee Army

Basically a suped-up vrsion of Dedede's normal Waddle Dee summon special move, except the little critters move at a much quicker pace and with such a large volume of them it'll be tough to dodge. There'll most definitely be Gordos in the group as well. (though it isn't mentioned if there'll be Waddle Doo's as well or not)

Aen
06-12-07, 11:17
King Dedede isn't as "evil" as he should be. I mean, come on. Remember the "Kirby Kirby Kirby" Tv Show that used to play on the Foxbox? It was so much fun! King Dedede was freaking awesome, too. His character design is based too much off of the GBA Series. His Final Smash would probably look cooler if he did something awesome with his hammer, too. >,>

Zyros
06-12-07, 11:21
I know, it's horrible that they're basing him off the video games, the place of his origin, and not that somewhat cruddy Kirby show. Such a shame.

King's Final Smash seems appropriate in my opinion. It's like the update says, he has someone else do his work for him.

Aikin

Remember that who fought or didn't fight in his games doesn't matter in SSB; The best example to this is Samus, as she never did close-range fighting in her games. Characters generally got a few attacks they never used in their games.
