Note that there are some spoilers to the MMZ series within this
For starters, this game will take place after the death of Zero in MMZ4, after the Humans have actually colonized Area Zero.
The Resistance has been helping the humans rebuild, as many of the humans' opinions of The Resistance (and reploids in general) have changed.
Neo Arcadia is in pieces due to the blast from Ragnarok. Many of Weil's supporters stayed behind, dying to said blast and the explosions following.
Ciel had gone on a search for Zero's parts at the Ragnarok 'crash' sight. It was just as she had feared, all she could find was Zero's helmet, broken in half. This helmet is now on display at the 'town' in Area Zero, 'Hope'.
Ciel is still working for the resistance, she will help you with cyber elves that you find, however.
As for X, he moved on in MMZ3, having no body to return to after Elpizo destroyed it.
As for X's guardians, all of them are alive other than Phantom. Harpuia, Fefnir, and Leviathan have not been seen since the takeover of Neo Arcadia by Weil, however. No one knows where they are.
So, X and Zero are dead... The Guardians are missing... Humanity's rebuilding itself... The Resistance is no longer labeled as mavericks.
For the rest of the story, gonna need some help.

He feels strongly for Zero's actions, and tends to visit the museum that holds Zero's helmet daily.

Somewhat of a biography: Pantheon were basically drones that were commanded in huge armies by the Mutos Reploids that served the Generals. An experimental design, Mobious X was in his final construction stages when Phantom, the general who had been funding the project, was killed. He was put on standby until Doctor Wiel saw the intelligence of having someone dedicated to watching Operation Ragnorok came to his head. Kraft may have been leader, but Mobious was the one coordinated the operation. When everything went to hell so to speak he was already gone. When he was designed, he was given the ability to think on his feet, to make command decisions. When Wiel finished designing him, he added a full Mutos Level AI in him, without the animilistic mindset. He looked out for Wiel, but he came first. When Craft turned on Doctor Wiel Mobious was gone. Craft let him go, after setting everything how he wanted it and pointing out the trigger.
Group: Well, depends on where you put Neo Arcadia. Resistance by the end of the first plot arc.

The beauty of this is that eveyone who works on it will feel as though a piece of their ideas has been put in to the game.

Also, just using Zero's sprites for the demo because he has all of the sprites that will be used already. Kairuni has few, and other people's characters also have few.

Question: Will the Cyber Elves be done in a way similar to MMZ4? You tend to get the most enjoyment out of them that way. I hated how they were only one time uses in MMZ and MMZ2. Haven't played MMZ3.
I've been spriting for upwards of six years now, I'd hope they look at least decent :P
Yes I know there's a few inaccuracies with the engine, and yes I am working on fixing them. They're mostly with the wall jumping though, which isn't that big of a deal.
As for moving while attacking, it's pointless for me to add that on with Zero, as some of the other characters won't be able to move while attacking. It would only be an inconvenience to myself to make him move while attacking. :<
Other than that though, go wild with the critique. :P

Undecided, honestly. The elf in Z4 was supposed to be special though, so it depends on what we can come up with :P

Yeah. We're severely lacking in both good guys and those who could serve as enemies. Depending on the situation, good guys may fight other good guys as well. It's pretty open ended. :3
Also, as a note, all MMZ sprites were taken from Sprites Inc. Who ripped them, I've no idea. I'll be sure to include Sprites Inc. in the credits, however.
Wow, this game is looking really good. Loving the plot, the controls actually work fairly well, and I'm loving the sprites. Looks very promising.
Now for the good old fashioned constructive criticism: The history on the shrines needs to be rewritten. They are poorly worded, and most sentences are short and choppy. I think I could help you out. Also, the shrines themselves should be larger, or golden or something.

I've no intention of using the Pantheon as enemies. Only perhaps, as enemies for testing (using one already)
I don't even know what the vast majority of the enemies will -be- in this, either. There are no prominant villains so far, thus no theme to any enemy forces. What an enemy is in this situation can also be argued. ;p

Well, I've written what I think is an improved version of X and Zero's info. First I'll point out some important things: Almost no one in Neo Arcadia knew about Copy X. Only high ranking members and the Resistance knew that X was not the real ruler for years. Even in MMZ4 neither Zero nor Ceil never informed the Humans that their 'leader' was in fact a fake. In this regard, I think that the shrine would speak of X as the leader of Neo Arcadia who was killed by 'Mavericks' during the events of MMZ3, without speaking of Copy X. So here's my version:
X
Mega Man X was discovered by Dr. Cain centuries ago. It was by using his designs that Dr. Cain created the Reploid race. X fought valiantly to protect both Humans and Reploids from the Maverick threat. His close friend, Zero, battled by his side on many occasions. The two worked together to destroy the Sigma Virus. When peaceful times finally came, X founded and ruled Neo Arcadia, with the assistance of the 4 Guardians, for over 100 years. X was tragically killed in a Maverick uprising, leading way for the tyranny of Dr. Weil.
Zero
Zero was X’s friend and partner. He was found in an ancient laboratory by Ceil, and quickly moved up the ranks of the Resistance. Many Neo Arcadians believed him to be a Maverick, fighting to destroy mankind. But in truth, Zero fought to bring falsely accused Reploids freedom and justice. Zero destroyed the almighty Omega, thwarted the Dark Elf, and saved earth from Ragnarok. However, he was unable to escape the doomed space craft before the explosion. The remains of his helmet are displayed here.
Wow, didn't realize how long those were. They could probably be trimmed a bit, but I find them to be more accurate descriptions.

X and Zero could be done with holograms, the same way that Grid is. I put the laser in the background because the blazing red didn't look good behind Zero and Grid's cape. Still not sure what to do with Zero's helmet, I don't think I placed in properly.
On another note, do you think that the Ceil System will play any role in this game's story?

Yeah, I wasn't sure about that. It's just that since Ceil didn't mention it before, she might not mention it later. *shrug*

X became the basis for the Reploid race centuries ago. X fought valiantly to protect Humans and Reploids from the Maverick threat. He and Zero worked together to delete the Sigma Virus. Once peaceful times arrived, X founded and ruled Neo Arcadia. After nearly a century, X caught the Dark Elf, using his own body to seal it. Unfortunately, the unjust tyrant Copy X was built to replace him. Zero defeated Copy X years later. X’s body was destroyed by the Maverick Elpizo to free the Dark Elf.
I kinda don't like leaving out Cyber Elf X, but you do need it short.

That and he can't grab on to edges yet. Kairuni won't be able to wallslide :(
So that's why you added the staircases next to the water. No wall slide will be something to get used to, but grappling ledges is always fun!
It's just him though. He also jumps slightly lower than the test character.
There's reasons for that though! :D
Any submitted character will be able to do most anything that they are sprited to do, as well. Of course, all of it'll have to be tinkered with by me to make it balanced, but anything you want them to do, chances are I can make them do it XP

Well, here's my attempt at a character, so tell me what ya think Shori. I'll start work on the sprites asap.
Name: Midnight
Race: Reploid
Bio: Midnight was once an ordinary Resistance Reploid before Zero came along. Right before Zero had been located, Midnight had been caught by Aztec Falcon and taken to the Reploid Disposal Center. Just as all hope seemed lost, Zero showed up and disposed of Aztec Falcon himself. Midnight would not return to the Resistance afterwards, and followed his own path for a time. It wasn’t until the Ragnarok incident that Midnight chose to return, but on his way back, he happened to lie in the path of the space station. Midnight was almost all but destroyed, but as his hope faded, Cerveau happened upon him in the Ragnarok crash site while searching for more of Zero’s parts. Cerveau and the humans rebuilt Midnight with a new frame of a fighter. Now Midnight remains with the Resistance to help out incase there comes a time that a fighter is needed.

Bio: Gaia is a mysterious reploid. Some say that he was once a S class maverick hunter along with X, Zero and Grid during the Maverick Wars. Some say he was a dangerous maverick. But to this day, even tests on Gaia's history revealed nothing. His past is unknown, but around him is the air of an experienced fighter. Gaia was discovered near the Crash Site, in a surprisingly untouched capsule. After activation, has mainly kept to himself. Excelling in all forms of combat, he has risen in ranks steadily. Tests on Gaia reveal technology dating to 21XX, and currently 90% is unanalyzable. His attitude is described as serious and unfriendly. Visits the shrine often, trying to trigger his memories.

Bio:Nobody knows the past of "Kef". "Kef" claims that he was a reploid of 21XX. Unfortunately, all information on reploids from the Maverick Wars Era was either corrupted way too much to be readable or destroyed. As a result, his claim cannot be confirmed. Current statistics show that "Kef" uses dual sabers, and other weaponary is unknown. "Kef" is skilled in combat, and is proud. Reploids who have fought him say that he was able to know their weaknesses quickly, and from information gathered, he does not finish off those he has defeated.
Use if you like. Studying = Boring. zZzZ.
Should go back to study geography and maths...

Race: Human
Bio: Rafale was the leader of the Human Caravan that took refuge from Dr. Weil at Area Zero. His parents were both killed by Mavericks years ago. After that he and his brothers held an extreme prejudice against Reploids. The only Reploid he ever trusted was X, whom he believed to have died by Zero’s hands. It took Zero’s efforts to save Rafale and his Caravan from Ragnarok to convince Rafale that not all Reploids were evil. After Zero’s death, Rafale helped Ciel and Neige build up New Hope. He has gone through great efforts to convince his brothers that there is good in Reploids, but neither Joseph nor Contra can understand.

Race: Human
Bio: Joseph is Rafale’s older brother. After Rafale left with the Caravan, he and his other brother Leonard stayed behind in Neo Arcadia. Unlike Rafale, Joseph believes that mankind will never be safe as long as Reploids exist. He never trusted X, nor any of the Guardians who fought to protect him. He was near the center of Neo Arcadia when Ragnarok fired, but he made it out alive. He refused to be helped by the Resistance and tended to his own wounds. He will find any excuse to fight a Reploid, especially in public. Although he his human, he has enough firepower to take down most Reploids.

Race: Human
Bio: Contra is Rafale’s younger brother. He and Joseph stayed in Neo Arcadia after Rafale left with the Caravan. Contra also believes that Reploids can never be trusted, and no good can come from dealing with them. He believes so strongly that he has secretly been planning his own private war against the Resistance. Although he isn’t as skilled in combat as his brothers, he has his own methods. He has taken control of a deactivated Neo Arcadian mechaniloid factory and has been building a small army. He plans to join forces with Joseph and bring an end to the Resistance now, before too many Humans side with them.

Name: Brig
Race: Reploid
Bio: Brig was one of the few true Mavericks whom Copy X hunted. He was wanted for the murder of at least 100 Humans, and 9 Maverick Hunters. He planned an attack on an upcoming reporter to send a message to the Humans that the Mavericks would never die out. The plan was doomed to failure, as Craft single-handedly stopped the assault to save the reporter, Neige. All of Brig's supporters were executed, but Brig himself was given a special sentence. He was used by Copy X to discover new methods of torture. He underwent the most severe pains a Reploid can handle. Years later, in a twist of fate, Zero broke into that prison to save Neige from Dr. Weil. During the confusion of the break in, Brig found the perfect opportunity to escape. He’s back up to his old habits of killing the innocents, and has set his sights on New Hope.

Name: Turock
An insane human, who idolized Dr. Vile due to the destruction he caused. He loves causeing chaos whenever possible, and although being human, he has undergone many robotic transplants, sacrificing his arms for robotic arms, in order to enhance his strength. He seems to make use of various weapons, such as smoke bombs, and is able to power up his robotic hands, surrounding them with energy rivaling that of a saber. He is not vulnerable to fire attacks, but being that he is human, and thus has liquid in him, along with metal within him make an excelent conduit for electricity.

A reploid specializing in rebounding his foe's attacks. He carries a beam saber, capable of replecting energy shots back at his foe with the correct timing. The saber itslef is weak, but the shots he sends back are 1.5x as powerful as when they were shot at him. Being that he was the one who customized the saber, and without the assistance of an elf or anyone else, he is considered to be adept at adapting weapons with other parts from foes he has defeated, but to keep his weapon from becoming cumbersome, he only uses one adaptation at a time.

Name: Razz
Race: Human
Bio: Razz was found by the resistance, abandoned, in a battle zone. They know nothing of her family, except that they were in Neo Arcadia at the time of her conception. Razz turned out to be very useful in part restoration, and was used to help Ciel repair the half of Zero's helmet that was recovered. She also cleans up various rooms in New Hope. She has but one memory before her rescue by the resistance, and that would be....Blah blah blah don't find out till end of game, I dunno what the plot is, so make it fit.
If you don't want any of that in there, then that's cool, I'll take it out.

Hrm. Then why did Copy X bother building both of the jails that you break into during the Zero series? =p You're right though; I'll go back and edit my previous post to include a good reason for Copy X to keep him alive.

Being able to reflect basic energy shots, and having a weak weapon is god? Uprgrade == 1 new move, such as a saber throw, or such, basically an ex skill, not too powerful, and only 1 equipable at a time.

Good controls and gameplay, just as a side note, although your rain (supposedly, didnt try it out yet) makes bullets dissapear in 3 shots, the water doesnt.
Update: No internet, so I'm not slacking on sprites as much. Two of Kairuni's weapons are finished, and now I'm working on the double sabers. Weapon learning system is finished, and the upgrading system is in the works.
Kairuni can grapple on to edges now.
Town defense turrets are ingame and working.
Since I'm too lazy to sprite the double saber attacks for Kairuni, I'll likely work on the town defense reploid(s) AI next.

Hmmm I thought he just couldn't type up English very well, since he spells some words correct and some incorrectly.
Bah going off and returning to the matter at hand, I'm highly skeptical at this point in time, being in the Sonic community before this sort of things never got of very far (the most successful involvement was that level from Sonic: Time attacked but that wasn't anything like this) but I'd like to see how this could unfold further on. Just don't try to include too many characters and try not to hurt anyone's feeling (you'd be surpraised how many people tried to make there characters final bosses/main character over at SFGHQ in the past and all they had was a recolour XD)
Though from the engine the game looks very promising, you do have some of the level backgrounds prepared/planned right?

Umm, I was playing the demo and the tiles have that little spot between them. You can fix that by putting a black line between the tiles in the tileset picture. Just so you know. I have a bad guy idea, but I need to make his bio first :g-laugh: . What are the bosses going to be? Just wondering.

Name: Faucon
Race: Human
Bio: Faucon was a human boy of 14 when Zero was first awakened. He thought that Zero was an awesome hero, unlike his Neo Arcadia supporting family, who thought Zero was a murderous monster. When Zero disappeared, just after Faucon's 16th birthday, he was devastated. He decided to set out to join the Resistance, to do his part to save the planet. When he got there, he tried out both buster and sword, but was not proficient with either. However, he had a black belt in karate, being interested in martial arts since age 10, and Cerveau just happened to have four prototype Z-Knucke chips remaining. These chips, which transmuted kinetic energy into electric, were surgically inserted in his hands and feet, allowing him to punch through even a sheet of fine steel- let alone cheap Pantheons. These chips, since they were prototypes, could not steal parts from enemies, but Faucon can pull off Street Fighter-esque moves. He only has two weapons, primary hands and secondary feet. If he can fully fill an energy meter by destroying enemies in one hit, he can even use the legendary Hadoken or Shoryuken! (I will be doing his attacks if he makes it in to the game, if you don't mind. He learns "EX Skills" from defeated bosses like Zero)

And, that museum is great. But, you could make it by the way that Grid Man has shown on that screenshot. I think it looks better.

Bio: Ever since creation, Farth has had one purpose. To protect Area Zero, helping with any cause there. These causes may cost her her life, but she still strives to complete them. But now let's go into the past, shall we? On her first few years of creation, her form had been completed. On years before compleation, she was sort of there, and sort of not there. Fake life flickering infront of her eyes. So close but yet so far. When she was at last complete, she was pushed onto the Resistance Squad. However, when she was tested with swords or gun, she wasn't proficiant at either. However, they had data chips hidden away, which when inserted turned out to be a pair of golden tonfas. Her secondary weapon, unlike others, is another set of tonfas, this time blue in color. These bladed weapons could cut through nearly anything, including those ever so cheap Panthions. These can steal part from enemies, allowing possible upgrades, or if not, armor. (Just like Plasma, would you mind if she can get EX Skills from bosses?)

Kairuni's sprites in the demo that is uploaded are far from complete, those're his falling sprites, not jumping =p

Bio: Giga is a non-support Cyber Elf with a free-thinking mind and is bent on killing every living thing(including Reploids) and anything that opposes him. He posses a power that lets him possess(like a ghost can) almost anything. (From humans to Reploids) He is currently working on a body for him to have using scientists his captured, both human and reploid. No one knows who his creator is, as his design shows, he was one of the first cyber elves built, so its assumed that his creator was a private (and mad) scientist. (No, it wasn't Dr.Weil)
Sprite: Will be done by me if accepted.
As for the game, I sugget fixing the annoying 1 pixel space between the tiles if you haven't yet. Thats about all I can think about at the moment.
You lack a group. If not it would fit into the guidelines.
Zero style sprites suck. I hate the weirdness of the style. Trying to learn it before i make Gaia. (I have a completed standing sprite, but it sucks your boxx0rs.)

Yea, I just beat the game not even 5 min. ago and there was no ending with Zero coming back alive. Besides even if there was a cutscene where he survived, the official ending is that he passed on.
