Dragon Ball Zeeeed?

One of the most repetitive Japanese-cartoon I’ve ever seen with Knights of Zodiac…

The fights are always the same…

Firstly the fighters respect each other…
Hero: Ha ha! You’re powerful!
Badass: Ha ha! You’re powerful too!

…and one hundredth episode latter, when they have destroyed half of the planet…
Badass: I’m gonna eat your wife and rape your children!!!
Hero: I’m gonna rip you hearth for this, you ****!!!

But what annoys me the most is the repetitiveness of the story scheme…

Episode 324:
Badass: *exits from the smoke left by the previous attack that blasted off half of the planet* Aha! I’m alive!

Episode 325:
Hero: O noez! My most effective attack didn’t kill him! I have to become…

Episode 326:
Hero: Stronger! MANLIER! *has blond hair and blue eyes* More European!!! RAAAAAAH!

Episode 327:
Hero: IMMA…!!

Episode 328:
Hero: …CHARGIN'…!!

Episode 329:
Hero: …MAH…!!

Episode 330:
Hero: …LAZAH!!!

Episode 331:
*contemplative and poetic moment showing the badass’ life*

BOOM!!!

Hero: Is he… dead?

Episode 334:
Badass: No I aren’t lol!

Erm, why do two different animes share a thread?

Also, Dragonball Z was fun. When I was a little no-opinion KID!
I mean, don't get me wrong. Dragonball was really cool, but Dragonball Z sucked major monkey balls.
People with haircuts of over 10.000 feet long, silly excuses for different designs (Trunks and Vegeta step out of the TimeChamber, Vegeta says: Saiyan's hair doesn't grow, only human hair does, lol), put over-excessive muscles on top of that, and remove any trace of a plot, and TADA! Dragonball Z has been born.

Seriously, strange persons crapping their pants for half an hour, then fusing because the next enemy is stronger, and the next one is too, so they make a stronger fusion/SuperSayian level=NOT cool/any kind of good.

I would have to agree, him and Ed and the angst they pull all over the place. I watched their first fight last night against each other where 'ol Flamie was snapping his fingers making Ed run like a nut, then screws him over by tricking him all those times during. XD And Ed's and the other spectators faces when Ed's plan of not being hit because there are other people around him backfires was priceless! XD

But I digress....... I'm not as picky as other people when it comes to most things, so I like all three shows equally. And DBZ was my old standby as a kid.

It was good for the old time, not at a certain age.
It's a classic, you can't just insult it, but you can make fun of it.

well, heres what i think on this whole entire subject:

Naruto: Anime=complete suckass
manga=complete awesomeness without terrible voice acting and such.
DBZ: Anime=Loved it and still love it, action sequnces great, all completely original storyline which every Anime thereafter probably took something from and although one-dimensional characters they all had very cool and distinct personalities.
manga= i never read the whole thing, i didn't really think it captured the crazy-alien-destruction-omega fight scenes and abilities that they were supposed have in their arsenal, so

DBZ= Anime>manga
naruto= Manga>anime

The original Dragonball was very good. I don't know about how I'd take it now(as for some reason, there are no re-runs of it on TV(there are for DBZ!) and I HATE those internet-video-thingies like YouTube) but I remember loving it as a kid, though it got somewhat less interesting in the end. It just had some interesting "touch" in the beginning that got somewhat lost later on(though there WERE interesting episodes, still).
I didn't like the villains that much, though. The heroes were what made the show good.
DBZ was interesting in the very beginning(the first few episodes), but then it got less and less good, up to the point where it became, well, what Darx said.

Naruto? Don't know about that one. Only seen a few episodes. But there are already thee things I hate about it.
1. It's COMPLETELY over-dramatic. About EVERY episode seems to have some sort of super dramatic flashback and long expositions.
2. I find it both funny and really painful how much stuff in the show is tried to be explained with science, but said science is bent and mis-interpreted so much it's, well, both funny and really painful.
3. Good or not, the anime is overrated.

You can try to prove me wrong, but you will never be able to because this is ALL BASED ON COMPLETELY SUBJECTIVE VIEW!

why don't you like youtube...? thats pretty stupid..well, personally, your right about the naruto show, and it's very strange because the manga is very different, it's not very dramatic until it needs to be, and like i said, no terrible voice acting. as for DBZ I think that what made it worse is how the characters became so powerful they could, well, blow up a fucking planet.

The long hair was a bit ridiculous, but it didn't make the anime bad per se...
But it's plain ridiculous how it's said in the beginning that Super Saiyans are "legendary" and "there's only one every hundred years" and then suddenly Super Saiyans start appearing like crazy and being one doesn't mean anything.

Also, the Dragonballs, which were the highest goal and oh-so-mysterious and all-powerful in the original show suddenly became some sort of easy-to-find adventuring tool.

In the next "part" of Dragonball, they'll probably be able to buy Dragonballs for 5$ a piece. And if they buy seven at once, they'll only have to pay for 6 of them!

Vegeta and Piccolo actually changed throughout the series, no one else did but they still had cool personalitites. and as for the original story line.. Who started giant attacks? Beams? super powerful? what anime has a main character an alien? fighting cyborgs and bioengineered cyborgs and demons and stuff? yeah, a lot of animes have beams, and strong characters, but DBZ started it, which makes it original, it could be the dumbest storyline ever, but if it hadn't been done before, then it's considered original.

I guess that you´ve also seen the terrible german version of Naruto. Panini and RTL2 have cutten the anime so sad, even people, who haven´t read the manga or haven´t seen the fansubs, won´t be able to understand the storyline. On veoh.com (the quality is much more better then youtube) are many subbed animes. Give Naruto a second chance.

When I was younger I liked also DBZ, but now it´s no longer interesting, except for the games.^^
DB before DBZ is still worth to watch. :)

jenova: No, not animes. Stories in general. Myths, stories, books... DBZ is not much more than various of the above spliced together. I remember a viking myth where one of the gods turned into a giant to impress someone or something(Loki actually did that regularily), radiation of light has been a sign of power even in the middle ages(where powerful creatures were often drawn with light around their heads or bodies), beams of light have also long been an object of human's interest and strong characters, humans powered up with machine parts, robots and aliens basically existed ever since man started to think.
The only thing "original" about DBZ is that it combines this stuff in a certain way. But if you go by that, EVERY anime is unique and original and new.

Thanatos: Maybe I could give it a try at some point, though I don't think the English version is much better than the German one, and if it isn't much better, it sucks too.

I like German version of Naruto more than the english one
1. Naruto hasn´t finally a girly voice
2. Some German names sounds better then in Enslish (G:Sasuke-E/J:Saske, G:Akatsuki-E:Akatski)
3.NO believe it (That´s actually the best about the German Version)
The only bad thing it´s that it´s Cut down...even worse then by DBZ...(Atleast it isn´t tottaly cut down like in the Jetix Version)

No, I can't give that list, because first off, it was rhetorical, and second, you can just watch a shounen manga/anime, that has direct combat. Alot of them have at least one element of what you said. Also, you can't prove that DBZ started it too, can you? The best argument you can come up for with that is that it has been out for a long time.

Also, you can't talk 'anime'-wise' in this kind of situation. Anime is a certain kind of media, a story brought to life by animators. Note the story part. A story, being it in books or in folklore or in anime or in 70 shows... it makes no difference. It is a story brought to life in different mediums. That is all.
And seeing as how energy blasts, aliens, 'super-powerful' (whatever you meant by that) and cyborgs have been known and used since people could FREAKING TALK NORMALLY, I doubt that DBZ 'introduced' all those things.

Also, for any future arguments, don't count Db as the first date DBZ was around. They're different. WAY different.

Agreed. There's 'Fist of the North Star'/'Hokuto no Ken', which (might've) started it all.
I don't know for sure, but it was one of the first ones, or at least however much I remember from it is telling me.

But anyways, I never really liked DBZ or Naruto. I always though they were too over-rated.

Indeed. Everything involving Dragonball that ended with the letter Z has been real stupid up-to-date, altough I do enjoy to play some of the Tenkaichi games. Mostly because fighting games don't NEED a storyline, so having the DBZ storyline in a fighting game makes perfect sense.

DBZ was terrible, DBGT was worse, the only thing that saved Dragon Ball was that they a story already written for them, about 500 years ago by a man named Luo Guanzhong. The story? Journey to the West, which was a myth contemplation similar to The Oydessy. Pretty much everything from the DB series was lifted from Chinese myth, just warped a little so it's not as easy to recognise.

You know what's fecked up about DBZ? How characters just sit still powering up and the bad guy just doesn't think to blast the hell out of them WHILE they're powering up. Here's how I think it should work:

Goku:Now I will use my Super Saiyan Ultra Kamehameha Beam Cannon! But first I must power up for 2 minutes, in which I am completely defenseless!

Baddie: I'm not waiting for this. (Kills Goku with massive energy blast).

Firstly, the Naruto show ROCKS! Secondly, DBZ is so repetitive it has patheticness to rival that of the PowerRangers. The DBZ games are good, but the show is clearly repetitive, especially the fight scenes. Its always the same thing, like they just stuck an animated GIF in or something, which they probably did. Naruto, on the other hand, isnt at all repetitive, and it takes a genius to come up with the stuff they come up with. Every fight is carried out in a unique way, and its always different. Now if only they put that kind of effort into thier games...
