I found this morning that I have about 10 DVDs to my name, having spent money on CDs and travelling to places and nothing else whatsoever. Bollocks.

I shink I'll be eBaying Azumanga Daioh and FLCL very soon. Are those Region 0 discs worth having a go with?

Ooh, I know all about that, and I've got the series on my PC but I'd just fancy a proper DVD or three of it...

Oh, I see... show me for the idiot that I really am. I'll have you know that that's not a big challenge!

.... wait, that totally sounded better in my head.....

EDIT: oh, and to stay somewhat on topic..... I might be getting a few additional shows, like Love Hina, Tenchi Muyo, and 100 Stories, from a friend of mine in my fraternity in the next few weeks. I'm looking forward to it.

Have loads of disney films and whatnot lying around but they're more for the family really. Technically Monsters inc was just lying around amongst my collection.

I only said it once. Theres really only so mucvh you can get out of anime though, I mainly just stick to movies now as the new series' are starting to seem too alike.

Funny you mention that i'm trying to build a dvd collection to rival that of my friend's or even Gagaman's. Neither in which do i have a hope in hell.

As a matter of fact you said it once or twice before on the previous forums. Just sounded like you disregard the fact that a lot of anime fans around here probably still tune into at least cartoon network and nickelodean as well.

Having said that i've developed the same attitude myself with animes, and it would be nice if we got more animation from other countries and continents.

I only said it once in this topic, and on this forum. I wasn't counting the old one at all because to be honest I forgot XD

The best animation out there currently is everything but Hollywood's. In particular, there's a lot of great films being released across europe this year (Asterix and the Vikings, Princess, Peurs Du Noir, Renaissance. Three of them are aimed at adults), but the real bugger is how most of those will probably never be released in English. Instead we have to suffer all these crappy animal CGI flicks coming out of the US at the moment.

Anime is mostly copy-and-paste formulas, but there has been the odd really creative thing coming out of it recently, especially Mind Game which is probably the most unique film Japan has given us in yonks. Typicially the good anime stuff isn't being picked up by western publishers, who are instead more interested in Love Hina clone no#2378213. Oh well, we do have Optimum, who are at least publishing the goods including Studio Ghibli's entire back catalouge that Disney dubbed, but couldn't be arsed to release here themselves.

Well looking forwards to the new Asterix :D

Anime series of recent years that haven't made me want to vomit blood
- Full Metal Alchemist
- Azumegadetho [Sorry, In joke. Azumanga :p]
- Stand Alone Complex

That's it.
I've yet to find a series I've enjoyed more than Escaflowne, [FMA and Azu come VERY close] pull your fingers out Japan!

Yeah a kick in the nueces. It's like besides Asterix and Tintin, a lot of stuff out there that for all we know is selling like hotcakes yet they don't get their chance in international spotlight because of "Another-tedious-cgi-flick-with-voices-from-annoying celebs" hogging that spot. I'll further torment you people by making mention of "Foodfight" again.

Given that Gagaman will get into the animation industry before any of us, you know what to do. :g-ninja:

Speaking of ninjas what would be cool to my collection is the complete series of the original TMNT. That would be sweet right about now.

gagaman
21-05-06, 09:15
They have those in the US at the moment, 2 seasons at the current, and I wouldn't be surprised if it eventally saw it's way over here.

BlueSonnet
21-05-06, 13:56
They've got quite a few seasons out in america at the moment if memory serves from my TMNT place. If they do get a UK release there's the sad off chance that it'll get random like most UK releases.

Videos aren't really hard to find at boot sales and charity shops i dare point out.
