TOTALLY not related to the "What do you want out of SI"-thread... ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Well, mostly Castlevania bosses and Souls of Aria of Sorrow for now. Maybe I'll add things from other games later.
Tox, please keep your hands away from the bosses of AoS. Besides Mantichora, headhunter, Graham and Chaos, they're mine.

Anything is better than a BMP, Terry. Namely a PNG. Good job capturing those already, though.

So i get the hard ones? XD That doesn't sound particularly fair.
I have a feeling you and I will rip most of this game by ourselves.

Oh! I saved them as a bmp? Didn't see that. Well, gotta fix it.
Okay, I'll do Chaos. He's the most difficult one.
Well, here is... *gasp* Death.
-He is awesome.
-He was hard to fight the first time I fought him.
-He is awesome.
-His arms were annoying to rip.
-His second form is even more awesome.
-*points to sig*
-Did I mention that he's awesome?

...
...
CHAOS.
DISASTER AND DESTRUCTION.
We're all gonna die.
I wonder why I didn't yet.
Because I was foolish enough to try to rip... CHAOS.
The storage of his sprites is as chaotic and evil as chaos himself is.
Like I foresaw, I wantd to smash my monitor, feed my PC-mouse to my cat and drown myself in baked candy, but I didn't want to smash my monitor because my mom would haunt me forever, I couldn't find my cat who is hiding all the time and I didn't find enough candy to frown myself in.
All in all, everything went wrong, besides ripping chaos.
It's only his first form... His second is still to be done.
Well, well.
- Gateway to Chaos
This is a strange room, empty besides a strangely pulsating beam-like sparkle thingy, where the last dialogue that isn't the ending plays. Ripped it because I had nothing better to do.
- CHAOS (First form)
I don't even want to TALK about this one. It could be that I'd poke my eyes out with a rubber band if I ever talk about Chaos again.
- Souls ("overworld")
Well, yeah, souls. All three colours. Chaos uses those too.
- Misc effects
Random rocks, dust and 'splosions you should see often in the game.
- Mugshots
Except Graham, every mugshot in the game. Hm.
To do:
- Bullet souls(I've ripped about a half of 'em)
- Guardian souls(I've ripped only the Flying Armour yet)
- CHAOS(second form)(GRAAAAAHHH!!!)
- Legion(Probably easy)
- Balore(I'll maybe have problems with him, but he shouldn't be as hard as, for example, CHAOS)
I just noticed... Isn't it interesting that if you shorten "CastleVania: Aria Of Sorrow", and exchange a single letter, you get the name of the final boss? Heh.
AddIt: Oh come on, people, post something! Seems nobody is even remotely interested in Castlevania. I hate you.
- CHAOS(second form)
Not as horrific as form 1, but still annoying...
- Ending castle
Not much. Jut the castle in the ending. Hm.
AddIt˛: Added the effect when ou gain a soul to the misc effects.

I got bored, and thus, here's the "Formor", the first boss of Metal Slug Advance.
6519
I think about submitting some rips from the same game to the spriters resource.
While I have a deep hatred against that site, I kind of wanna submit stufff there. Hm.

If you have such a deep hatred of that site, why not submit elsewhere? Theres other Sprite Ripping sites.
People's Sprites (http://www.panelmonkey.org), for instance? And a few others...
Terry von Feledae
22-06-07, 02:54
Hm, good idea... Though...
One of those already has many complete rips from this game(Sprite Database, except for some misc stuff, two bosses and some anemies, they already hav the whole game covered), the other one has a layout I don't appreciate(RGZ-sprites), and uh, that leaves People's sprites.
Sounds good to me. The only problem is that tSR is more popular than PS. Should I submit to both?
(I have waaay to many personal preferences when it comes to things I submit to... Really)

Uh... Right. Some while passed before I last posted here.
I've usually only been posting my non-MM rips on The People's Sprites lately, because I doubt that anyone would find them interesting. However, I'll make an exception this time, simply because the sheet is... Interesting. Or something. Or perhaps I just want to raise my post count. WORLD MAY NEVER KNOW.
*ahem*
Right-o. The sheet in question being Soma. From Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. As you might guess, the sheet is large. It's the sheet with most poses I've ever ripped, I believe.
Open on your own risk. And don't say I didn't warn you.

The palette is probably all wrong(for the reason, see below) and I think I got the order of some of the animations incorrectly(but only of some; Most should be correct), but overall, the sheet is useable and pretty accurate.
So, I'll be ripping more from DoS in the next few days or weeks or whatever - provided my PC doesn't act all broken again. There are, however, a few problems.
- Faulty emulation. The only emulator I know of that can actually play DoS is iDeaS, but iDeaS makes the palettes all incorrect and has no inbuilt tile or palette viewer, meaning I can't view correct palettes of things that are translucent in the game - and there are a lot of those. Disabling layers doesn't work either, as iDeaS disables either all layers or none, and nothing inbetween.
If anyone knows of an emulator that can play DoS and has some sort of palette viewer or something similar, please tell me! It will make my rips instantly more accurate.
- My lack of patience. There are some sprites that only appear late in the game, and I need to see them to get their palettes. And honestly, I lack the patience to play this game on a super-laggy emulator until I meet Death or Menace(both of which I want to rip at some point).
So if someone got some savestates for iDeaS or knows where I can get them, please tell me! It will make it possible for me to rip some of the later bosses and enemies.
ALTERNATIVELY, it would be even better if it was possible to extract and open the palettes of DoS like Clownman and Barubary did with the X-series games. If someone knows how, please tell me! It would be the best solution of all.
Err, post over. More to come.
Superquickedit: Not quite over yet. I forgot one thing.
Most of the older rips in this thread are, simply said, bad. I have to re-do them at some point... Particulary death. And, uh, basically everything else Castlevania related I ripped.

Palettes in the later Castlevania game are not that easy to find, the best I can do for you is tell you how to extract the tiles from the rom itself.

Well, on my endless harvest for palettes, I got the more-or-less great idea to take them from screenshots that are on sites like IGN and such...
Turns out 90% of available CVDOS screenshots were saved as JPGs.
JPGs. JPGs. Who got the great idea to save screenshots of non-3D-games as JPGs? Aren't they supposed to give an accurate view on what the game looks like? Are these guys blind or something, not knowing that a JPG of a sprite looks like a piece of fractal geometry's dump?
Arrrrrrrrrrgh. Looks like I'll have to play through the game with an amazing speed of 1 FPS.
ANYWAY, despite the wonders of completely gawd awful emulation, I have been rather productive lately.

Wow, his sprite really is bad. I suppose Konami didn't have the time to fix it's completely obvious mistakes.
DOS: Golem

Don't expect the palettes of any of the above to be correct.
Unlike this one:
CVAOS: Death

Wanted to do this a while ago.
CERTAINLY better than the last sheet of him I made.
Thanks to Toxic Seahorse for sending me a savestate.

Before I post my next rip, let me tell you how much it pains me to post something with a completely and utterly incorrect palette. I mean, faulty emulation and all, but still... I don't like making palettes up on the spot at all.
So, if you've been in FlashChat regularily, you'll probably already know what comes next. Or if you looked at the avatar thread. Or rather, Solarblade's post in it. Now, if THAT didn't tip you off, you probably never played CVDoS.
Wait, why am I dragging this out so much? Because I don't like making super-short posts, I suppose.
Anyway.

Right-o. If Inc would have a Castlevania section and I would submit it there I would, of course, have to cut out that tag, but since that isn't the case, I felt that it belongs there.
Obviously, you could also contact me on the forum if you know the answer :P
That reminds me, I completely forgot to submit my recent CV rips to the People's Sprites. Well, a few touch-ups to Soma's sheet and I will do that.

Um... When you're emulating the Game, wouldn't a simple ScreenShot contain a more accurate Palette? I mean, this guy's obviously too big to be Screen Ripped, so you probably used Tiles, but couldn't you just get the Palette from a ScreenShot?
Terry von Feledae
19-12-07, 23:01
Of course, that's the simplest solution. But the simplest solution usually doesn't work.
Before I can take a screenshot of him, I have to get to him via emulator - and quite honestly, I do not want to play through the entirety of the game at a speed of 1 FPS likely only to find out that I can't get his palette anyway because various graphical glitches make his colours go kaputt.
Superquickedit: Yes, I searched for savestates. No, I didn't find any.

Terry, I might have found a way to get the palettes in DoS, but I have to check it first.
Nevermind, my idea didn't work.

Terry- 1 FPS? Damn man, my computer's 10yrs old(and uses win98) and runs it faster then that. Good rips though.
BTW- Golem looks odd now that you ripped it, yet it looks fine when running in the game

OFFTOPIC : TAOR - You may not know but Win98 is faster than XP when it is coming to playing games.
