Originally posted by HeatmanOriginally word of this was sent my way by friend and supporter Fireman. Now that I've seen the article myself, thanks to DN, I'll go ahead and spread the word. In this month's issue of CoroCoro, concerning Ryuusei no Rockman (Mega Man Star Force), it's stated that next month's issue will contain what "all of humanity is greatly expecting" (Coro is always one for the dramatics). So what is this great event? After two years, "that" contest is said to be returning. "That" contest, of course, most likely refers to the boss character contests for the EXE (Battle Network) series, which haven't been held since EXE 6 was in production.

Whether the contest will focus on the constellation-themed boss characters or just the Navi support characters is unknown. The important thing, however, is that such a contest implicates the production of a sequel to Ryuusei no Rockman. Of course, anyone could have guessed that another RnR installment is in the works, but consider this the first hot lead. Stay tuned for futher details.

So there might be a boss contest for Megaman Star Force 2. I think I might enter if it's true. Now... DISCUSS!

Well, alot of people here say that starforce is 'gunna be crap, so if they make a sequel... nuff' said.

Yeah, but I'm saying it would be better with really freakin' awesome custom fan made bosses.

True dat', true dat'.

Has RnR already been sold in Japan?
If yes, maybe the ones who played it(or at least a majority of them) say it's good, unlike the ones who have only heard about it.
Fan-made bosses aren't always better than official ones. Mega Man 8 is a good example for that.
Anyway, if RnR/2 doesn't consist mostly on running around like the original BN, I'm probably even gonna like it.

Let's see,If i sprite one, send it to Capcom and then they accept it,and comes on the site and game...What's the prize besides fighting your own creation in the next installment?

EDIT:If i was able to enter-i would submit Lacerta (Lizard)..

Err... being in the credits?

Gaia, for some reason, I don't think you hve that much of a chance. Especially when you enter a sprite. And don't you think having your very own character in a professional game is enough? Just think of all the bragging rights you would get.

BTW, if this is real, and if I know more about it, I might enter it just for the heck of it. I have nothing on me that makes me think I could win, but it would still be nice. When I hear more, I would love to somehow send one or more of my design sketches.

It's true,we ALL have a 1 in 90,000,000+ chance in a Trillion..

But since i lack in originality, you are right...Unless i get better..And copyright issues..

WAIT! Before we get a bunch of flooding and stuff in here with custom bosses, you should now that MegaMan StarForce only has bosses named after/based on Constellations, or Planets (Gemini Spark, Taurus Fire, Etc.), just as the three versions (Dragon, Leo, and Pegasus)are (Draco Constellation, Leo Constellation, Pegasus Constellation).

Also, they'll have to be DRAWN. BY HAND. Not in paint or anything, with pencils, with a view of Front, Back, and Side (Left and Right if they're asymmetrical), just like Capcom's own Official art.

Boilman

The names would indeed be a problem, and the names influence the design. There are only so much planets out there, and the fact that I only know the milky-way ones doesn't help. But I'll manage something.
Still, not all seem to use the 'space-names'. What about 'Harp-Note'? I think that's what she was called.
Anyways, I said it once, and I'll say it again: I wouldn't start on anything like this until you know the exact meaning of what you should do.

GaiaX2

I could have trouble,No scanner...

Harp Note=Ara I think..

Lacterius Narcomis

My Star Nameb and themed warrior..If i could draw him out in two forms and scan him..>.<;

Dead Panda

Or you know, you could base it off of the Stardroids.

Boilman
25-03-07, 17:07
True. Those are perfect for this case, but I think that you'd have more chance by making a boss that's totally original.

Dead Panda
25-03-07, 17:11
Hmm, but is Gemini Spark that original?(Gemini Spark is one person who becomes two, just like Geminiman.

Boilman
25-03-07, 17:19
Still, Gemini is the star-sign 'Twins', so I think that there being two of Gemini-... is mostly his basic. No matter what.

GaiaX2
25-03-07, 17:23
Basing off the Stardroids lacks originality,OX FIRE and HARP NOTE are bound to return the second game, they allied Rockman in the first game..

Boilman
25-03-07, 17:25
1) You just said what I posted 5 minutes ago.
2) What does it matter if Ox Fire and Harp Note return?

Dead Panda
25-03-07, 17:33
Okay Gaia, that should go in a spoiler tag.

GaiaX2
25-03-07, 18:08
Yeah, still, they would return if Rock is in the worst case scenario..

Boilman

First off, thatpost makes no sense whatsoever.
Second, PUT THE SPOILERS IN YOUR PREVIOUS POST!
Why would they be needed here, if you already spoiled it?

Anyway, maybe we ahould use this thread for showing off our art, getting c+c, and editing them over and over like a filter till' they are game-worthy.

That might actually work. But until I hear specifics about this game I won't make a serious entry, or one at all for that matters. But I DO need to get used to the style before I can make dcent designs of this. Meh, I'll manage. I'd love to see what others come up with tough.

C+C please.

He looks good, promising too. You might want to consider giving either the character or the background a light-grey tint, so you can make out the gaps more easiliy. But I really wouldn't mind fighting that thing.

People, a few things you might want to add in your sketches (if you want to make it easier for the rest of the world)
Seperate parts, from front/side (two sides if a-symmetric)/back.
All of those on the same scale.
A picture of Subaru or Rockman next to it to show his height.
A pose in which he stands, an one in which he would look like in battle, again with Subaru next to it.

Those will make it easier for both you, and the rest. And if you seriously want to make a chance, then you probably need to make it Capcom as easy as possible.

I also have an idea for a character, named any of the following:

Scorpio (Enforcer/Force/Anger/Power) (if supposed to be stellar name)
Scale Scorpion (if more X-like)
Dard le Venin (if more Zero-like)
Venom Man (if classic-like).

His picture should be up when I fully drawn it. Right now, I got mostly everything down, except from his tail and his head.

You also have to color it...Because full body concepts have color,'cept facial expressions.

Boilman
27-03-07, 20:34
Yes, but I thought that color in design sketches is so commnon, that it doesn't need mentioning. The things I listed are the generally overlooked.

GaiaX2
27-03-07, 20:39
Have you seen Rockman's Scketch,it is colored.

Boilman
27-03-07, 20:43
Gaia... read what I said. Did I said you needed to color it? Yes? Oh wait, that's right, I did. But first I only listed the generally overlooked ones. When you mentioned coloring, let's see what I said, shall we?

Yes, but I thought that color in design sketches is so commnon, that it doesn't need mentioning.

I believe this means that it DOES needs to colored, but tha it is so common that I didn't mention it. What's the next thnig I 'forgot'? You need to draw it on paper? With something that can write you say? Why no carrots?
Really, pretty unnecassary post you just made Gaia.

I haven't completely settled with the design. When I'm done that I'll colour it.

Eh, I'm doubting anyone who submits a half decent character will be accepted. Did you guys see the ending credits of MM8? It showed the winning entries of that contest, and most of them looked like a 5 year old drew them (and probably did). Also, there were a lot of changes made to the accepted characters. They also showed other entries; a lot of those were way better than the winners, but they didn't make it.

Boilman
28-03-07, 06:54
Yeah, contests like this one mostly revolve around who they got to see first, and how it looks is only a second. Still, it's pretty fun to do (in my opinion) and IF you somehow land at the top of the heap, then you might make a bit of a chance, because you included everything they needed to know. I think.

To anyone who wants to enter (and don't regurly visit Atomic Fire).

We now have some new details about the boss character contest for the sequel to Ryuusei no Rockman. The theme for the designs, naturally, is space and constellations, probably with a preference toward constellations. This time around only one lucky winner will get their design incorporated into the game. The contest results will be announced in the December issue of CoroCoro, which would indicate that the game itself will probably release in December.

Just for chuckles, here are the sample designs created by the Ryuusei manga author and a couple Ryuusei game staff members. They are, from left to right, Southern Cross Father, Cup Legend and Galaxy Meijin. Thanks goes to Dark Napalm for the scan.

http://www.atomic-fire.com/storage/mags/rnrbossconcepts.jpg

OK, the main points of the magazine article are:

This time the theme is Space and Constellations for a boss in the after-transformation form. They give some examples made by staff etc. Galaxy Meijin, Cup Legend and Southern'Cross Father. They suggest you research the constellations and things about space and be careful not to use themes of bosses who have already appeared in the first Ryuusei no Rockman.

How to enter: get a Japanese-style post card and on one side draw the boss' design, the name for the boss, the skills he has, and other things you think are important. On the from side of the post card, write your address, full name (furigana), age and phone number.

First prize (1 winner): Character appears in game, your name in the staff roll, and you receive Ryuusei 2.

Second (10 winners): Ryuusei 2 and Ryuusei no Rockman goods.

Third (20 winners): Special signatured paper from the manga artist and some Ryuusei no Rockman goods.

Judges will include Inafune Keiji, Corocoro and Capcom staff.

The bad news for most people is that the cut off date is May 14th (about one month from today).

There's also other news on the final Card in Ryuusei no Rockman and other special things, but I'm just helping Heat on his report.

Well Japanese styled post card is just one that on one side you write your address and information and the other your note. So one side is completely blank and one is not. I'm not sure if they're any different from the regular post cards in America or not. I can get them at my local convenience stores, but that's probably not the case for most people.

Although the contest makes no mention about what language in which it must be written; considering it's a Japanese magazine with Japanese judges for a Japanese contest and not aimed at people who don't speak Japanese- I would say, if possible, write it in Japanese.

Furigana is the reading for kanji or letters that aren't kana (simple Japanese characters; hiragana and katakana). So the furigana for English names may be necessary too as the reading for them is probably not clear if your name is any harder than Ted Smith.

The address is also in the Corocoro, I'll post it later when I get a chance. School project right now. But if you really do intend on entering, you better get thinking and designing quickly. As I said, you have exactly one month from today (April 14th).

I don't know why people keep asking for the e-mail when I never said there was an e-mail. Nor did I say anything about April closing date, I said May 14th.

Anyway Boilman and the others, here's the address. I hope you're not doing your design on Fornax... because that's mine, and he's almost complete too.

Postal 101-8023 Tokyo Kanda Postal Box Office 93, Shogakukan Corocoro Comic (5) "Ryuusei no Boss Chara Contest"

Just to go over a few things. Remember people, there's no e-mail, you need to write you boss character name and attacks (basic or complex) all in Japanese, and you need to send it by post which may take a lot of time and/or money.

And i just saw it only takes real little time and money for me to enter. If only I'd know enough japanese...
