I've been gone working on things like PNT, Exe7, and my art.
Well, lets add another thing to that list, eh?

Yeah, I'm deciding to continue on with my original project, RockMan X: Team Command, which I had put on indefinite hiatus over a year and a half ago when I began work with PNT. Without further ado, read the details below....

Sprite Style: 32 bit

Storyline:
Approximately 2,000 years after the events of X6. X and Zero fought Sigma one last time 2,000 years ago, forfeiting their own lives to ensure Sigma is destroyed for good.

In one blazing blast, the battlefield is consumed in a huge explosion and after the smoke clears, all three are just shrapnel...

Peace has followed since then.

Now in 40XX, Humans have long emerged from underground and are now functioning members of society. There are still reploids and mechaniloids, but risk of going Maverick was greatly diminished, thanks to anti-corruption technology developed by Alia. (Remember when she mentioned this at the end of X6?) With the risk of Mavericks, there is still a need for the Maverick Hunters.

The new Maverick Hunters Squad is led by Ace, a reploid with exemplary tactical and leadership skills. He is developed with a highly updated for of Signas’ CPU processing units.

Donovan is the group repair and mechanics expert. He is a human but has more knowledge on how machines work than machines themselves. He not only repairs, but also upgrades.

There is a female reploid navigator who can pinpoint danger a mile away and is top-notch in what she does. The reason she isn't much specified because I've yet to get her details all worked out...

The new mind of 40XX is Professor Sona, a descendant of Dr. Cain and a man who is single handedly responsible for the technologic revolution currently taking place. His IQ is higher than that of both Dr. Thomas Light and Dr. Cain.

The Main forces behind the new Maverick Hunters are Rei (pronounced “ray”), and Z.

Rei is an expert at swordplay and main weapon of choice is his wrist-mounted saber. Z is best at long range attacks and excels with his Z-Laser. I only have concept sketches of Rei done, but have been unable to scan it yet. Z however is proving a tad more difficult to accurately get on paper. Both were created by Professor Sona, which he created from pieces of X and Zero leftover from that perilous battle 2000 years ago. (This plays a huge role in the storyline)

The main problem of the story is that Sona’s first and personal favorite reploid has long since turned Maverick and is now terrorizing the world. It is later that we realize This particular female reploid is made with some corrupt parts of the highest evil, Sigma’s. Her objective is to revive the ultimate evil. She has created 8 Mavericks to gather supplies and giver her the time needed to do the revival. In some ways she is more dangerous than Sigma due to her craftiness and intellect. (Thanks a lot professor) Again, I'm also trying hard to get her down on paper. The X series was in dire need of some good femme fatales anyway...

I'm thinking Getting Japanese Versions of the last part of the name would be better, like in X4. Rather than having Frost Walrus, you'd have Frost Kibatodos. It just sounds much more superior and awesome.
I'm also not doing anything in terms of programming for a long while yet. I'm only doing art and maybe sprites later off.

wow, all the older sketches really suck when compared the the updated forms.

I doubt I can help with anything BUT programming, and thats only if you do it in GM6 =P

Programming is something far beyond me. Spriting enemies and whatnot is more up my ally. Though I'll need to study the 32-bit Megaman shading style.

Also, I have no guarantees that my sprites will actually look good. Just optimistic hopes. ;)

Guys, this was my first 32bit sprite ever. :D

I beleive it looks good for my tastes. Also, yes, it is to be made in GM, so hlep with programming will be nice too. I was gonna hold off on programming though until we had enough sprited material. Can't drink from an empty well, you know?

I didn't want to overwhelm you with a large page of enemies, so I only posted two of them instead. You may do any you see fit. I gave little explanations of them next to their name, so you get an idea of what they do.

Model 0001 only needs shuffling up and down poses while on a pole.(A dummy pole can be made too for referencing) as well as throwing poses.

Model 0002 only needs flying straight poses with moving wings. Also a bomb- dropping frame, but that should be easy.

Also, I'm not that kind of game developer where I have my slaves, er, team do all the work. Whichever of these you want to sprite, I'll do the other one.

As you'll find out, I'm nice to my employees. :P

Hmm, managed to miss your post for twelve hours. I'll start on model 2. I doubt I'll be able to fit in all of the details you drew, but I'll include as much as possible without making it look cluttered.

Oh, and something about the arm on the boss looks... odd. In both the shading and structure. Mostly towards the bottom-left part.

alright, looks good so far. Only thing I'm noticing is that the tip of the mouth is too rounded. It would be lovely if you could sharpen it a little bit. That way, it looks more menacing.

Also, the direction is off, remember , he should be flying straight so it should be at a profile view.


Oh, just realized, this enemy would be a marvelous reference for direction and position.

Take as much time as you need. Hell, It'll take til sometime next week before I finish this one frame of Eregion R.

I never rush people, a spriter content with his time makes better sprites.

I recommend that anyone doing sprite work for a game should get themselves a thread to display it and ask for C+C. :P Just posting it here, or the rating thread, really won't get you the crits you'd want. (More so since this isn't the place for it technically. :P) It's perfectly alright to show the WIPs, or finished products here though to say you're doing something though.

Now, I think you said you're using gamemaker for this game, right? Well, I don't know a lot about that engine, but can it do something called, "real time animation?" It's something Castlevainia games use for large enemies and bosses. The end result can look pretty impressive if all the parts are done correctly. Though, that can conflict with the style to some extent.

And even though I just said this isn't the place for it... the style doesn't use a complete profile view for sprites. It's actually closer to a 3/4 view. (If it was a profile, then I couldn't see that bug's arm or wing in the back, let alone his other eye.)

It should be interesting to see this game done some day. I'd say with all that you want to do now, and odds are good you'll want to add in more things later... or revise... you might be done in 5 or even 6 years. :P Good luck.

Well, with only two spriters at the helm so far, it just might take 5 or 6 years :P.

Still, this won't turn out like 21XX where we quit after 8 years, might as well die if that happens. Still, I'm uber dedicated to this and can only hope the rest of my team feels the same (When I get them :|)

Also, I've been considering the real time animation for a long while now. It was one of the things I was pondering while on hiatus. The only problem being that As of now, no enemy would require that type of animation, nor do I think GM is capable of it. (It might be though, as each body part is actually a seperate object)

Also, If I want to show off the sprites for this, I will do so and make a seperate thread about it, sorry about that.

And yes, I did realize most of my Mavericks were serpentine.(Hell, I made them lke that.) But after I get Captain Venom's newer design up, only Bolt Strike Eel will be the only Maverick without legs.

Well, if you really want to get a jump on things, you could develop a basic movement engine for me while i get rei's sprites done. charge shooting was one of the things that gave me a tizzy of a time.

Let me just gather up some original Megaman X sprites to use to make the engine. You can switch them to your sprites when you're ready.

Some things I'd like:

Enemy collision, this is the hardest thing for me. Everytime I tried, I either died instantly because of repeating simultaneos collisions, or it just fails. I need to make it so you flash and go invincible for a second or two..

Standard running, walking , jumping, bla bla bla. not much trouble here, but since you're offering to help...

Wall-Jump(Optional) Major component in X series. I hear its quite difficult to do...

Enemy Collisions- Yes I can easily do that. The problem you were having can be solved with a simple five lines of code.

Walking, Running, and Jumping- Luckily for you, I have all of this pre-made.

Wall Jumping- Yes it does seem hard, but it can be tackled without a single line of code!

Anyhow, I hope you post some screen shots or an engine demo or something, since it's hard to progress in game development with no engine. :P

But luckily I have thought ahead and will be posting some mock screens in a week or so if I'm lucky. :P

When do you think the sprites for Z and Rei will be finished? I just want to know so that I'll be ready by then. If I finish the engine before you finish the sprites, then I'll just post screenshots of it without your sprites and you can make some official screenshots whenever you are ready.

Well about the engine, it is almost finished. I'm just doing some coding right now. I'll let you know when it's finished.

Alright that sounds good. As for the sprites, Rei, thanks to SC, is coming along well, though it may take awhile to do his sprites. Z i haven't even started yet, but isn't needed til the end of the first level.

Posting screens of the engine should do just fine as they show proof of workingmanship(totally messed up the word XD)
