well Gaga said if there is one he could names hundreds, and im now offering the opportunity to him :p

right here goes:

DooM 3 - too much hype with lil deliverance! just doesnt have the same feel as the originals

Psi Ops - again too much hype

Pro Evo - as much as i like football games this is way too overrated by the fanboys alone, i swear each sequel they bring out is no different to the last one!!!

dragonball z: budokai - for all that hype! the game was utter pants!!!!

mortal kombat: i will admit this now i was a fanboy of this, but comin out of it this is nothing more than a joke

tony hawks skateboarding - same obectives, same tricks, different levels, crap!

tales of symphonia - after finally playin this and completing it, this game bored the crap out of me! too much hype went into this

enter the matrix - crap, crap and ummmmm.... crap! movies tie-ins even if they do lead on the third movie oare just crap!!!!

devil may cry - the game was good to start off with cos it was new n fresh but it just became repetitive n lame!!

ok i'll leave it for now, need to try n think of more... i'll leave some games for you all to put in!!

Megaman Battle Network.
Seriously, over 2 games a year is enough, not even the classic series made that many games in its hay-day! The fact the games seemed to have gotten WORSE, (haven't played BN5, but BN3 was worse than BN2 and BN4 was shite.) doesn't help matters much.

Any Hyped Movie Tie In.
If its hyped. Its generally shite. Simple enough.

Every Other Bloody MMORPG.
Most of them aren't even fun to play. Wow looks semi-appealing (but I dont have that sort of cash lying around.)

Tekken: better characters than Virtua Fighter? Yes. Better gameplay than Virtua Fighter? Not a chance.

Gran Turismo: having hundreds of cars to pick from is fine and dandy, but if it's unexciting to play, what's the point? Gimmie Daytona any day.

Tony Hawks: What I said elsewhere. They've made too many of them now, too.

Grand Theft Auto (owned 2, played 1 and 3): Made me full asleep. Nothing to motivate you to keep going. Most fun to be had probably comes from things that are not part of the missions, which seem to invlove walking around aimlessy in circles.

Mortal Kombat: All gore and no fun. Plays like a dead horse. Plus the photographic sprites in the originals looked horrible.

Joust: As far as retro titles go, this one is crap. The aim is hardly made clear, and the controls are rubbish.

Counterstrike: Looks likethey gave up on it half way through production, and just threw out a beta hoping no one would notice.

King of Fighters: A decent enough series, but did they really need to release one every year when they barely change it at all? And this is coming from someone who loves 2D fighters.

Goldeneye: I still haven't figured out what splits this apart from any other FPS, or what makes it so darn special.

More later.

DooM 3 - too much hype with lil deliverance! just doesnt have the same feel as the originals
It was overhyped but i wouldn't call it overrated. It seems to get mixed reviews from fan, newcomer and magazine alike

mortal kombat: i will admit this now i was a fanboy of this, but comin out of it this is nothing more than a joke
Same here. I still have MKtrilogy upstairs which was the series at is best. For me the gameplay weren't bad but the highlight has always the fatalities and once the novelty wore off you didn't have much to work with. Hell even the storyline, which i quite like, relied little on fatalities so they always seemed like a visual extra more than a gameplay necessity.

One thing about MK 1 that's overrated was the graphics. People were like "rar! live-action capture" which might have been a fair technical advancement compared to other games but it still looked shit.. Either way i'd take street fighter anyday.

Anything to contribute? Halo, Goldeneye, Perfect dark, Grandtheftauto except for no.2. Dead or alive overrated? Seemed more about the wobbly kajungas those chicks wield more than anything. Anything beach volleyball seems like a cheap cash in.

Gaga- You have to remember that Counterstrike was a mod, made by one guy.
Suffice to say, he should be fucking shot for unleashing "ZOMG SPAM CAMPER PWN NOOB LAM0R!" upon the world.

Doom 3- Opening twenty minutes = hell yes. Next seven thousand hours
"Oh. ANOTHER dark corridor with noises in it.....meh"

All Mortal Kombats except for III and Trilogy
- Fun for five minutes.

Tekken
- Idiotic shit.

Devil May Cry 2 and 3
The first one was brilliant. The second one was crap. The third is one of the most terrible games ever. Which is a pity as it's graphics are foooken lovely. Mundane boring gameplay, senseless controls, rubbish plot, etc

Goldeneye: I still haven't figured out what splits this apart from any other FPS, or what makes it so darn special..
I think it was the fact it was the first Console FPS with 4 Players. Other than that, no, its not a very good game at all, especially now.

Doom 3- Opening twenty minutes = hell yes. Next seven thousand hours
"Oh. ANOTHER dark corridor with noises in it.....meh"
Agreed. What didn't help was the fact you fought the same monsters over and over again. Ok, I didn't mind that in the first Doom, but come on! :g-hmph:

Another game to throw onto the fire:
Final Fantasy 8. 7 was awesome (altough that feeling is mostly nostaliga and the fact it was the first RPG anyone ever played), and the previous ones, 4, 5 and 6 were pretty good too. 8? Too easy. Too boring. Non-challengeness. I swear, I never once saw the game over screen on that game, unlike all the others in the series... Shame, everything else about the game rocked.

I actually quite liked that game before valve made crappy updates to make it more "newcomer friendly." CS's notoriously shitty community hasn't helped much either.

I feel Half life 2's overrated if you ask me. It's better than doom 3 to be sure, but it felt like Valve made promises just as empty as Id's. Gameplay is just as straight forward as Doom3's, too much reliance on the gravity gun, story's crap (or at least the ending, but even then i hadn't a clue what was going on throughout the game), i can't even say the physics are entertaining in the long run.

But if that critique fails, at least let me turn around and say Steam sucks Kracken shit.

The repititiveness stopped it from being scary or even jumpy after a while. I mean i like doom 3 but it really lacked replay value after the first playthrough, especially for me since i played it on the hardest setting on my first go.

My list of things i would have done.
. Bigger spaces for bigger exploration, possibly filled with more quiet times to make it more spooky. I wanted to get lost in labyrinths provided.
. Better AI, and make it less predictable. Rather than have them sit around waiting you can have set enemies patrolling vast areas in search of you, bit like what they did in AvP. This could also make it more scary. I'm tempted to say they should have more scary scripted events but after the hell stage if the player hadn't chickened out by then, then it might be alright.
. A longer time in hell; a good five levels rather than the one. Maybe throw in Mt Erebus or Limbo
. An arachnotron.
. A final boss or two beyond the cyberdemon.

Quake 4 sucks.

Tekken
- Idiotic shit.

i like Tekken. And the controls aren't bad. But there's something about it that says its just following everyone else's lead.

And i dislike any Finalfantasy game after 7.

I will say this now, im a huge Final Fantasy fanatic and do hang around with ppl are wasover the top fanboys of the series and i can honestly say that Final Fantasy VIII is NOT overated, if anything its disapeared into the background! the most talked about final fantasies which at time do me head in even tho i like em is VII and X. X-2 sucks arse and IX was crap altogether, but noone really ever talks about VIII that much, i dnt think they talk about it at all!! so i wouldnt class it as a overated game!

I loved Half Life 2 :p
Ace- Pfft, the glory that is Snes gave me loads of RPG's before FF7 :p

My views on new skool FF games

FF7 - Worship. It is not overrated. It DOES however have far too many idiotic fans.
FF8- I dont know where I stand on this game. The game keeps on switching between "Fun" "Ok" "Boring "VERY boring" "ok" and "Fun" at rapid fire. In it's defence, eeeeee the musics good.
FF9- It makes me want to cry how underrated this game is.
FF10- A 57 hour long movie that is very boring, that requires you to press the X Button and walk in a straight line to remind you that you're playing a boring game.
FF10-2- With a hatred that I reserve for anti-semites, bigots, nazis, and Big Brother contestants, I hope whoever came up with the idea for this gets cancer. There.
FF11- Urgh

In other news, my giddiness is growing each day in anticipation to the 1243 year late release of Final Fantasy III.
Done in 3D. For the DS. Hooray!

too much reliance on the gravity gun
I barely used the Gravity Gun in the game. Too much reliance my ass. And Quake 4 does not suck.

BlueSonnet
20-05-06, 19:50
Nah towards the end they nick your guns in favour of the gravity gun remember? And try getting through the sandlion level without it (might be possible but not without getting a few good slams first).

As for Quake 4, i got up to the stroggification scene and lost interest. It really wasn't that interesting for me. But hey to each his own.

Easy done.
You just need to RUN :D

BlueSonnet
20-05-06, 20:24
Too bad there's a stamina\power bar for running in HL2. The creepy crawlies will be on your tuckered-out arse before you know it.

edit: I'll cut Quake 4 some slack for not having a stamina bar though. I still think that game should have been Id's project however. Raven's done some good work before but Quake has always been a true child for Id more than anyone else. That's my view anyway.

Hey, that last part was fun. I mean, you get to take down a strider with a gravity gun.

Most overated?

Halo

Halo wasn't really overrated, since there was no hype to begin with and the button setup is the best I've ever seen for a console shooter. Its retarded sequel, however...

Half-Life 2 wouldn't have been overrated if it had come out a couple centuries earlier than it did.

Ready for the most overrated game ever?

Final Fantasy VII

I played Super Mario RPG before FF7 came out, and I must say that SMRPG is just more fun. Square added some stuff to make FF7 different, but it doesn't shake the fact that they had already made a legendary RPG when FF7 was born. FF7 is damn good for a game, but I stand by what I said - it's mucho overrated.

As much as I love FFVII, I have to agree. It's really, really overrated. If I could find my copy of Super Mario RPG I'd much rather play it. While it was a great game, people made it out to be a godly game. It wasn't nearly as good as others like FFI, FFII, FFIII/FFV, and FFVI/FFIII (damned American renumbering).

Anyway, a game that's overrated, you say? Erm... Dragon Warrior (the first). It's lifeless battlescreens weren't very intresting, and I didn't find the plotline to be all that compelling. Let's face it, FFI was much better.

Poke'mon. The first one was good, but then they got too popular for their content. And just... Just... Don't get me started on the show.

Final Fantasy seven is probably the most overrated game ever. EVER.

Great story or not, it's an RPG, and hardly one that did anything different than those before. The only real step up was the graphics, which haven't aged very well. Sqaure know this game is over-rated, and is now pumping it for everything it's got. I've barely ever haerd anyone who says they love the game actually explian why, oher than "because it is." and "BECAZ SEPRIROTH IS MAI BISHIE!!1!", although I'm aware not all fans of the games are morons.

I even belive it is most likely the best in the series, but it really has gotten out of hand with the fan-base and all.

Rainbow Dash
21-05-06, 10:22
I wouldn't say it's the best, though it's certainly up there. As I said, there are definetely better ones. I just like it 'cause Cloud's sword is huge (I wonder if he's compensating for something) and shiney. Do you think the rest of the fanbase is as dumb as I am?

It just occured to me that somewhere along the line in the old forums you were the one getting all excited for the doom 3 x-box release. Guess they let you down huh?

One game that really got me disappointed was Xenosaga...

Why? Well...its main problem is that THERE IS A FRICKIN MOVIE EVERY 5 MINUTES! Its boring as hell and you BARELY see any gameplay!

I'd have to agree with most people about the post 7 FF games. It just got all the same:
Guy has a big/gun/cool looking/generic sword, one guy is named cid and three plus girls. ----Blah blah blah, Ifrit redesign #30059 lots of other EXTREMELY LONG (unskippable) battle cinematics.---- Defeats bad guy and gets the girl that is either very important or the hottest.

However, GTA is definately the most overrated I say.
