View Full Version : Most Underated Games/Series.
Surely you have some games in your collection which you think should've gotten more attention than they did.
I'm putting forward the Rocket Knight Adventure Series.
There was only 3 games in the series, (Rocket Knight Adventures, Rocket Knight Sparkster (MD) and Sparkster (SNES), and yes, despite the last two sharing the same name, (and even the same box art O_o; ) they're COMPLETELY different games entirely.).
I have the good fortune to own all 3 of them (In complete condition too. Huzzah.), and must say - they utterly rock.
If you ever wondered where the "Spark" part of my name comes from, its from when I was completely mad on these games. (And even had the net avatar of a recoloured version of the main character)
Sure, the games are Sonic clones, but what of it? I mean it stars a Possum with a Rocket Pack. A Possum with a Rocket Pack, people.
Fun times. The only recongision the series got was a storyline in the UK Sonic the Comic. Other than that, its virtually unknown, which is a shame, I would've loved at least a few more games in the series.
So how's about you lot?
I never felt that Rockey Knight had that much in common with Sonic. Sure, it was a animal character platformer, but gameplay wise it was completely different. Now Tiny Toon Adventures, THAT was a Sonic clone (a decent one, though).
As for underrated series' n my collection, the only real 'collections' I have as such are onic and Dtreet Fighter/Vs games, and they're hardly underrated. In fact, almost all of my collection is indiviual games.
GunGrave on the PS2, alot of people thought it was just one of those shooters that was completely finished in three hours, oh but they were wrong, the level design of the stage to try and keep your beat up while supplying hordes of enemy you could take down yet not lose health *dependinh how good you were* yeah I believe it was under rated.....
And I felt Sonic adventure was underrated too. Not that many pop to my mind as of now....

Rocket Knight, aye.
Vagrant Story springs immediately to mind. Undoubtedly one of the most bloody magnificent and artistic games I have ever played.
Nice imagery + the occult + everyone talking with huge out of place comic like speech bubbles + ye olden English + Sydney Lostarot + the most awesomely generic hero name ever, Ashley Riot + More huge bosses than you can possibly fit in your ass + Badass plot + awesome controls = Awesome
It recieved millions of brilliant reviews, but was unheard of by almost everyone.
Why is this?
[Of course these days, it's a bloody huge cult thing]
The almighty Syndicate Wars. Until Deus Ex came, the perfect cyberpunk videogame, and what video game developers SHOULD be bearing in mind whenever they try to make a gritty game.
Hover cars, stupid futuristic weapons, carnage, setting people on fire, portable thermonuclea grenades, religious zealotism, Ghost In The Shell, Dungeon Keeper adverts, sunglasses, and mind control.
To this day, even with a team of three highly experienced mates and a multitap, and a full arsenal, we can't complete that sodding game.
Bloody Church motherfuckers!

Freespace for the PC. 1 and 2 still rank as the best space fighter simulators and more than make up for the crap that was the add-on.
FarCry and streets of rage for me, top notch games n rarely reconised!
I dunno, Streets of Rage is one of the titles all people who owned the Megadrive played, dunno if that counts.
Mind you, the series could do with a sequel.
Mr. Driller: If this game was released in the 80's, it'd be up there with DigDug and Pac man, or something.
Ristar: Nuff said.
If you wanted an over-rated list, I could think of hundreds XD

Mr. Driller
Love and acid.
As soon as I get my PS1 copy back [as it's better than the DS one, as awesome as that is] none of you will ever see me again.
If you wanted an over-rated list, I could think of hundreds XD
But how many of those games would you have actually played? :p
Quite a few actually. I bought them due to all the praise, only to be totally disapointed. Example point: Tony Hawks 2. All the Dreamcast's praised it as a brilliant score attack game, but I found it to be dull, repetitive with lousy controls.

If you include NES games, let's not forget StarTropics and StarTropics 2: Zoda's Revenge. The music's decent, the gameplay's pretty good, the graphics... awesome for 8-bit, hell, better than some 16-bit games. Plus another thing: you would get something like this if you crossed The Legend of Zelda with modern times. Just trade a tunic for vacation clothes, a yo-yo for a sword, and an alien for a sorcerer pig. There you go.
