View Full Version : Are you afraid of dying?

Figured this might make for some interesting discussion.
I'm not, because quite honestly I just don't care. The only reason I would be motivated to live, is so that the people around me don't have to be hurt by losing me. And now I do have a pretty damn kickass future ahead of me, but hey, if I die, then it happens. I'm not necessarily afraid of death; just the aftereffects of it. What about you people?
Edit: Meh, commander. Woo.
Not really, To me death doesn't mean anything
I'm the first to say yes and if your saying your not afraid, you will be when the time is ready.
Speak for yourself, you must have no idea about the lives of other people
Yes I am. I could write a two page long story to why I am... But I'm not going to.
Everyone: *Whew*
I am, but I'm not. I'm afraid of death mainly 'cause I dunno what's beyond it or what it'd be like. I'm not afraid of it 'cause I sorta know that there is an afterlife of sorts and quite frankly, there are days where I'd rather be struck and killed along side the road than keep going.

eh..... not particularly. Then again, I have a bum heart and have kinda known for just about all my life that I probably wouldn't last til 50, so I suppose that I've always just accepted death as an inevitability more than others who plan on living longer.

No, it's inevitable anyways. Everything must come to an end at some point.
Of course, it is a natural instinct to be fearful of death.

No.
I'm not ready to die, but I'm not afraid of it.
All life returns to the Earth that spawned us, that's how the world works.
Death doesn't scare me, but the concept of not existing terrifies me.
If there is no spirit, no afterlife, no reincarnation, or whatever, so when you die you just cease to be in any form whatsoever- THAT concept scares the fucking shit out of me.
So
Death- No.
Oblivion- Hell yes.

This does borderline Religious Discussion, but providing it doesn't degenerate to "such and such won't get into heaven" "Lomgaf you guys suc for belevin" or the like, it's acceptable.
Basically - no hate posts, and no bashing other people's beliefs in this thread. Or it WILL be locked.
Other than the concept of non-existance - I do believe in the afterlife, (i.e Heaven), therefore, im not afraid of dying.
(as stated before, I am Christian, so I believe in this stuff, i'm just not one of those Christians that go "OMFG U SUXOR AND AR GOIN TO 'ELL!" , mostly because I Ignore the Old Testment. I'm one of those people who believe if you're good, you get in, sort of thing.)
I'd at least like to make a lasting impression before I go though.
I'd give myslf 20 years before a heart attack. Better get moving. :p

Everyone's afraid of dying to some degree or another. If you're not then go get yourself killed.

I dont want to die, but I accept it as an inevitability.
I'm not afraid.
Death is only the true beggining of spiritual ascension.
I give myself 20 years, (cancer or kidney failure) providing I dont go suicidal again like I did this summer and actually go through with it.
I'm pretty much in the same boat on the issue as GG. I'd hate the idea o not excisting in some form after death, but if my time is up, that's that.

I'm not afraid to die at all. When i die, i die. It's as simple as that. Why be afraid of the inevitable?

Let's talk funerals :D
If you could fully 100% customize your funeral.
Method- Burial
Attire- For god's sake, I will HAUNT anyone who shows up dressed sensibly. Sitting around in dark clothing, and sulking is for emos! Dress casual!
Songs to be played-
Devin Townsend: Stagnant
Mastodon: Pendelous Skin
Metallica: To Live Is To Die
Coffin specifics- Wheels, spikes, flames, engine, and chains. If the dead ever do rise to take over the Earth, I want to do my zombie apocalyps-ing in STYLE.

Haha, what a great way to get this off borderline religion (Sorry, Ace!)! I want my funeral to be a happy thing. Not like "Oh shit, he's gone forever!" I hate funerals like that. I want it to be looked at as, not "What a great life just ended," but "What a great life he had." I'm with GG on the whole dress casual thing (and the being scared shitless of oblivion, but realizing and not fearing that death is inevitable, though I'm not ready for it yet), and I wanna die after my wife does (Don't get me wrong, I'm not married yet), so she doesn't have to deal with my loss. I dunno how I'd do all the stuff. Like I think being cremated would be pretty cool, I could have my ashes somewhere important to me. But being buried... Eh, I dunno, it depends on what my mate does. I dunno what songs... It depends on what events happen throughout my life, and I'll find something with significance.

I am, because I am afraid of what might happen to my family that I plan to have. I have done a lot for my family and I am happy for what I have done. I also hate when other people die even if I hate their guts or if I don't even know them. I wished that people would never die, even though it is the circle of life.

I'm with GG. If "Death" means "to cease to exist", I'm petrified of it. But, if there's life after death, it'll be little more than a very refreshing nap.
I also agree with GG on this one. If we just poof, I'm gonna be extremely pissed. But if my "beliefs" are right, (not religous, just personel) it'll be welcome.

Ideal death
Either exploding, or being stabbed in the heart by Russel Crowe after having sex with Lucy Pinder (for five hours).
Either way there'll be a mess I wont have to clean up.
Why Russel Crowe- He's awesome.

Ideal Death: After a shit ton of sex, drugs, and sex. And everyone would be willing to accept my death, not dwell on it. I die before the down of the drugs. Like between the high and low stages. So I'm sober and not depressed, and I would die of natural causes or something.

He's been banned now.
Time to go back to directing contempt at the floor :(
A few quotes first...
Kryten, Red Dwarf. "Human heaven? Goodness me! Humans don't go to heaven! No, someone made that up to prevent you all from going nuts!"
Woody Allen. "I'm not afraid of death, I just don't want to be there when it happens."
I'm not afraid of death and I don't believe in the afterlife. I like to look at the funny side of things instead. That's why I don't have time to be depressed!

I do not wish to comment on whether I am afraid of death, but I believe there is a afterlife. You aren't just dead and sit in your body for all of eternity. That would be boring. Plus, you'd be dead, which would suck, too. Actually the reason I have not commented on whether or not I am afraid of dying is because I have not been close to dying, so I honstly wouldn't know.
GG Hendrix

I've been in three near death occasions and I have walked away from them with not a single worry or fear.
(we have just been hit by a fucking van)
"Shit! Is everyone ok?! Mark?!"
"...Yeah?"
"You ok?"
"...Fine...You?"
Ironic, as I am terrified that this is some deep psychological apathy to my own life or whether it ends, which in itself is a paradox...
I crap my pants at the subject, i fear deth, i mean not knowing whats gona happen when i die what will happen to my family friends and my sister...i mean it freks me the fuck out!
I used to be afraid of death... but as time went on, it wasn't as big a fear for me. Now, it's just something that happens, and until it does, I enjoy every day I've got.

And that's really all we can do, King Reaper. There is no way we can completly know what death will be until we have died.

I personally am not afraid of death, because I believe there is a better life afterwards. Though I don't want to die yet, because I'd like to experience a lot of things that are here first.
Though, I don't want to die a sad or stupid death. I don't want to die of a disease or old age, and I don't want to get killed by bees or something like that...The best death would be in an epic battle that involves swordplay...

It's ironic, I was just listening to a song by John Lennon. It was "Yellow Submarine", but that's beyond the point. I would prefer to die of old age, because then you would have more than enough time to see and do all the things you wanted to do in your life.

Making light of a dark topic :)
As long as I got to meet John Sebastian Bach, Kenneth Horne, Nietzsche (who will probably hate me for conflicting opinions, and the fact that I always call him Frederik and not Friedrich), Ronnie Barker, Winston Churchill, various other dead comedians, Jimi Hendrix, and Layne Staley, the afterlife will be pretty bitching.
Why people have the idea that Hell is going to be awesome and have really good music, is beyond me. IT'S HELL.
Satan probably has bitching music taste, but he'd much rather play shite so everyone else can suffer.
God created John Peel, and therefore has the most ecclectic taste in the universe.
And Jesus is a grindcore fanatic.
Hell-
Overcrowded
No chairs
No smoking
No drinking
No substances
No sex
Your diet consists of devil semen, brimstone, and McDonalds
17 inch razor sharp blades ON FIRE rammed up your ass and dickhole daily. Probably.
No good music. You have to listen to the song "I'm Not Ok" by My Chemical Romance, "War" by Burzum, and the entire Disturbed/Incubus/Trivium discography for all eternity.
Heaven-
Best fucking party in the universe. Also, the only place in the whole world where you'd be able to watch an orchestra conducted by...I dunno, Beethoven, discuss human morality with the philosopher Plato, have a drinking competition with various dead rockers, and watch Bill Hicks argue with people.

Sorry, I have to disagree with you on that. If there is ANY bad music it'll probably be nothing but ear bleeding screeching that vaguely souns like music. Besides MCR and Disturbed isn't ALL bad. The music's good but the fanbases suck ass.
I agree with everything else you say though.
I am starting to be afraid of death, long ago I would try all of these stupid things that could of gotten me killed, but now I have a g/f with a baby on the way, and it changed me when she told me about it. I want to live as long as I can now, I want to see my child grow up into something I can be proud of.
As for my funeral, I just want to be burried upside down with my cross and guitar, so all of my enemies as take the time to walk over to my casket and kiss my ass.
I don't know if you/me revived this thread or not, but whatever.
Anyways, I just wanted to say congrats on the kid man.

Thank you, we are hoping its a boy, b/c I have a ton of shit left over from when I was a baby, so half of the shopping is done there, but if its a girl, then I have no idea how I am gonna raise her.
