NES trouble?

I recently hooked up my old NES and just about every time i turn it on, i get this annoying glitch where it blinks between a black and gray screen, does anyone know how to help/stop it?

Blow into the cart slot. I'm pretty sure everyone who has had a NES has had this problem at some point, they ALL had it.

Its still not working, and i kinda went light-headed blowing

Tap it really hard?

Honestly, that's all I can think of. If blowing into it or smacking it doesn't work, then I'm clueless. The NES always was a console that could take some tough love, after all.

Turn it on, move the cartridge to the left or right and maybe in a little, reset, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repete, blow, repeat, repeat, repeat.

That's how I do it, anyway. I sometimes spend longer getting a game to work than I do playing it. Also, it might be your cartridge, as if it's in bad condition, it may not work at all.
