View Full Version : Time to sell up our Gamecubes?
With the Wii just around the corner, and the fact that it can run gamecubes games, controllers and even memory cards, you can bet the Gamecube will be worth nothing when it's released. With that in mind, even if don’t intend to buy one at launch, it may be wise if I was to sell my Gamecube now while it's still remotely worth something over a tenner?
I mean, I'm not one to often buy a console at launch (with an exception of the Dreamcast). I mean, I didn't get a Saturn until late '97, but if the Wii's going to be as cheap as we think...oh, and there's going to be Super Monkey Ball and Wario Ware at launch (hopefully) so it's all good. Zelda and metroid honestly don't interest me much, and there still hasn't even quite enough good game announcements for me yet (I still haven't got used to not being able to own a new console with all the all the latest Sega games from the arcades on it.) but it looks to be a good investment, especially when compared to the competition that dont interest me in the slightest.
Still, I reckon I could get about £40-50 for the Gamecube with a few Sonic games I don't need (Mega Collection? Own the original carts. DX and battle? Own the DC originals.) I suppose. If the thing's region free, I might even pick one up in the US when I'm there this Xmas: might turn out to be cheaper.
This, and possibly a cheap PS2 are on my list to save up for. Not sure what the point of this post was, to be honest.
very interesting point you make there my man, i was planning on buyin a wii on the day of release so i might have to go n do that, put the money towards it :)

Nintendo doesn't interest me much and I have about four games for my gamecube so this really isn't an investment for me.

I bought my Cube for next to nothing, and no matter where I go, the trade in for it is even less than next to nothing.
I'll probably put it in a box and put it away.
I need to get a Wii on launch for the following reasons
A) I WANT ONE!
B) It's cheap!
C) EVERYONE I know plans on getting one on launch. Snooze or lose!
I am gonna keep my GameCube. It still has some games I wanna get, and there is a lot of fun games on it. Besides, I have enough money for the Wii already.
But surely, if the Wii runs everything the gamecube does anyway, you can just sell the console to put money towards the Wii? That's like keeping a PSone after getting a PS2: there's just no point, when it's all backwards compatible.
Damn GG 1000 posts? I bet like 650 include the word(s)....

Anyway, I've been asking my bro to sell his GC but he won't, I'll just sell my PS2 and get the Wii then not let him play it.
Ehh, I guess you're right, but still, what are the chances that I'll be able to get the Wii anytime soon? Barely possible. Cuz, there's gonna be a shortage of the Wii for the opening weeks. Just gonna wait.

Gaga- Maybe!
I like my Cube :p
I see as little point trading it for nothing as keeping it tucked away.
Just means less cancer in my lungs when the Wii comes out.
Hendrix: By crikey, this computer is as though forged by the Lord himself.
Thompson: Verily. Tis a fine machine indeed.
Bennet: Truly, it is the greatest mortal accomplishment.
Hendrix: This calls for a victory smoke. (checks pockets) ... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! (falls to knees in tears)
(I have a PS1 and a PS2. Simply because I have a lot of copied japanese games/rarities for it that I can only play on it/ (The PS1 isn't chipped. I use the Action Replay Explot The System And Chippers At Once thingy)
On more serious notes-
I probably will trade it in. Ten quid is ten quid.

You forgot
"Shut up."
"Needs to get laid"
"Cunt."
"Fred Phelps should be injected with AIDS."
"Acid."
"Learn to spell."
And I cant even think of ten posts I have made related to zombies, or even thirty related to Megaman.
So piss off.

That's actually an excellent point, though I don't own a Gamecube to sell.
..... to be honest though, I probably wouldn't sell a old system regardless. Even if I'm never going to touch the system again because of backwards compatability of the newer system (a la my original Playstation) or even if a game just sucks out loud, I've never really been able to bring myself to sell any of my old games or consoles. To me, the idea of selling something like that really makes no sense, even though I've bought a used Xbox and plenty of used games over the years. I don't really know how to explain why I feel that way, too.

I own the Sonic Mega Collection and Gems Plus.
As well as all those games on original.
The thought of selling any of them horrifies me :D

The only reason I'd keep Mega Collection Gaga is so if you DO ever play the originals, you dont have the risk of them suddeningly breaking on you.
That and having them all handy on a disk is.. well.. handy.
As far as the Cube goes - i'm keeping it, because I'm not going to be able to sell it, ever. I doubt you'll even get a tenner for it to be honest, let alone £40 - 50, even with games.
If I did anything with it, i'd "lone" it to the lan I goto so they can have a perma-gamecube set up with Mario Kart.
8 player Mario Kart = bliss. :p
But I also have Sonic Jam, so I have the Mega Drive titles on a disc anyway (excluding the spin offs, which I couldn't care much about), and the Sonic Jam, versions are not just roms, but enhanced versions of the games. Mega Collection to me was a waste of money, as I already have the games twice (mind you, it only cost me a tenner anyway). Gems, however, I'm keeping simply because it has Fighters, and I don’t want to scratch up my original copy of Sonic CD.
I'm sure there'll be someone who'd buy a Gamecube if I sold it in the Echo. You're being a little OTT when you claim you could barely get a tenner for a Gamecube. I've never seen one for less than £30, even at bootsales where consoles are as dirt cheap as you can get (Prooth? I got a Spare Dreamcast for £2). Ebay would be the worse place to sell it, though, so paper or bootsale it goes.
I'm not selling my gamecube, sure i don't have many games, but the games i do i have i love. Besides, I like my gamecube and its not like I'd be getting a wii anytime soon anyways cause its going to sell out and there will very likely be shortages.
Slightly off the mark, but this is my stradegy for buying a Wii. About two weeks ago my brother's friend indefinitely lent him a PS2. Which I thought was marvellous - I can now play We ♥ Katamari et al. But because the Wii's around the corner, I'm going to basically buy the games that everyone's been banging on about for as cheap as possible (Gamestation\Cash Converters\eBay), and then when the Wii comes out we'll return the PS2 and cash in all the games for store credit. Not the most cash-effective way of spreading the cost, but at least I can see how bad Shadow the Hedgehog is (Scunthorpe GameStation's offering it for about a fiver; there's about twenty copies in preowned...)
You won't get anything for them like that, though. Trust me, exchnaging at shops is the WORST way to make money on games. I've saw a guy bring in a whole bag of X-Box games once (there must of been at least 30) and he only got about £35 for the lot. I did an exchnage once, but never again. They put the games out for ten times the price I got for them! Better off just selling them yourself.

I once took in "The bouncer" (parents xmas prezzie, don't ask) and a couple of other significantly better games and they were only going to offer £10 for the lot. You can kinda imagine my words to the guy at the counter.

Ok.
I'm sober now.
I'm gonna go trade it either today or tomorrow along with
- 5 Gamecube games (The rest are being put aside for the Wii)
- XBox Crystal
- 12 XBox games
- 7 PS2 games
Reason- I want a 360 and a Wii, now that the 360 has games and I dont feel like spending a lot on it.
Simply because I cant be bothered putting the XBox on ebay, and no one I know doesn't already own one and therefore cant sell it em.
I really hope a chav buys it and throws a massive fit when he sees the lack of "bangin choons" on it.
(My Xbox's soundtrack = 700 tracks of rock, metal, drone, classical, grindcore, punk, electronic, jazz, techno, noise, noisecore, and some country. In other words, music. And not BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM HIGH PITCHED SQUEALING BITCH STOLEN SOUNDS FROM OTHER 'SONGS' WITH STOLEN SOUNDS.)
If another metal fan buys it I'm going to be hella pissed off :p

Update.
Got a 360.
Cant trade my Gamecube anyway now.
Gamestation wont accept it because I dont have an official Gamecube joypad.
GAME wont accept it because I dont have the little scart adapter thing (THAT I DIDN'T EVEN GET WHEN I BOUGHT THE SODDING THING!)
Oh well.
One week till Dead Rising! :D
I'm selling 360.PSP,and Gamecube,I WILL have enough,YAY!
UPDATE-I'm keeping the good ol' PSP. The money left over wil go to a few games for it.
But the 360 and The Gamecube can go for all I care.

Duly noted. Aw heck, come January I'll have enough money anyway for a Wii XD

Really he only got £35 for all the games? Because a couple of months ago my PS 2 broke so I returned it and got $40 for it and I returned Kolona 2 some spongebob game that never worked and Star Wars Bounty Hunter for $120. So I got a brand new PS2 and Soul Calibur III with the money that I made from selling that stuff.

Wait...You owned a Klonoa game and sold it?
...I'm going to murder you in your sleep.
(Just Kidding :))
Gaga- I got a killer deal on all that shit I just traded!
I beat Kolonoa 2 and I never played it after I beat it so I sold it, and got $40 for it which bought me Soul Calibur III

I beat Kolonoa 2 and I never played it after I beat it so I sold it.
Bah!
BAH I say!
(It took me forever to find a copy of that game [and even longer to find a replacement for the original] {and also a fair long time to find the Gameboy ones for prices I'm willing to pay} so the idea of selling it horrifies me :p)
I did the same thing,I played a few more times, let a freind borrow it,then,I sold it to. I find a copy evry time I look around...
But you alredy hate me so meh.
Ughh, Klonoa/Klonoa 2? Never heard of it.
1000 posts! WOO!!!
I sold my gamecube about 9 months ago and got 70 quid! I could see that as soon as the Wii gets closer, Gamecubes would become dirt cheap.
Overall I was quite dissapointed with the Gamecube. There were two types of games on it. Great Nintendo ones and crap third party kids games. Shame...
True, true.
Still worth it for Monkey Ball, F-Zero GX and Smash Bros alone, though.

Ikaruga :D
Selling my Gamecube today,I'm thinking about the 360,though...
Ikaruga :D
Try finding it. Oh, and it was on Dreamcast first.
In fact, most of the games I've wanted for he Gamecube I simpily cannot find anywhere. All the really good games seem to vanish after a while, so I rarely get them cheap if I can find them at all. Ikaruga still goes for £30 2nd-hand when we get it here.

It was on Dreamcast first.
I know, but it's easier to find on Gamecube :D
Not by bloody much, though. That's like saying the PS2 REZ is easier to find than the DC one. It is, but good luck wih finding either anymore.
True dat! Part of the reason I sold my Cube was because most of the games on it were on the Dreamcast anyway. Sonic Adventure, Phantasy Star Online, Skies of Arcadia, Ikaruga... umm. That's all I can think of at the moment.

I saw three copies of it on wednesday.
Granted, not with the joypad.
My Gamecube is staying where it is for now, I’m not going to be buying a Wii for quite some time, I was considering buying one and then waiting for the PS3 to drop significantly in price before continuing with my original plan (Buy PS3 and some games) of making my way into next-gen, but since I started working, the PS3 has became affordable for me. I’m also working on a 10 game system, if a certain console has 10 or over games I want for it, I buy the said console and games, the PS3 has already matched that, but Xbox 360 (2) and the Wii (1) have yet to fulfil the 10 game system.
