Proving that they missed Spider-Man 2, Chinese scientists are going to have a go at making an artifical sun!

Wow. Poor them. No Spider-Man 2? That movie rocked!

Hey..... maybe it won't actually be my country that destroys the world!

I doubt it. If Bush gets his hands on a Hydrogen bomb... Anyway, appocalypse (Spelling?) later!

I may just be being Mr. Ngative, but anyone else think that this sun will flop?
I don't see what's wrong with the one we have now...
DragonZero

Yeah... I thought our sun wasn't in danger of going Nova for like another 20,000 years at the very earliest.

Actually, there are several rumors and speculationsa bout our sun. Most of which don't depict anything happening for about a billion years or so...
Anyways if the sun blew up wouldn't it destroy the earth
DragonZero

Yeah, but we need vitamin D, which we get from the sun, to survive, as do plants, and animals. Sun go boom, plants die, herbivores no eat, herbivores die, carnivores no eat, carnivores die, WE no eat. WE no eat, WE die. Game over! *Blue Screen of Death*

If the sun were to suddenly Erupt, our entire solar system would persish. Perhaps Pluto would be spared, but not likely....

DZ: If our sun were to "Blow up" it would most likely engulf the earth, or come very close to doing so, in which case everything will melt, and/or boil.

Ow. That's even WORSE. So;
Sun X Nova=Blue Screen.
Before the sun explodes, it will expand exponentially, engulfing every planet between the sun and earth, leaving earth plowing through the outermost magma of the sun as it orbits.

Actually, our sun isn't the type that would actually go nova. Sol would just turn into a red giant, though it'd still incinerate us all.

Either way, we fucking die.
Well I guess it's safe to say that I won't be around when that happens

Actually I saw a clip if this from scientist. The sun well run out of supplies for nuclear fusion which is hydrogen and helium and explode 50% percent outside and 50% inside destroying mercury, venus and earth and also burning half of mars.
Then the sun will turn into a dwarf.
Yup. Earth is pretty well screwed.
But think about this for a second:
An artificial sun could lead to the development of a miniature, moveable, solar system. Theoretically we could create a large sphere with the artificial sun in the middle. The sphere would have to be big enough to allow the orbit of the earth and the moon. Using special technologies, we could move this solar system throught the universe, as a way of escaping our own dying sun.

Actually our solar system is moving as the galaxys are moving apart and if we run away from the sun our orbit will desease and pluto might just crash into us destroying us alll anyway.
More good news! Thanks, GG! =D

SILENCE!
We have at least 5 hundred billion years before the sun declares unto our tiny galaxy that he's sick of looking at us, and blows up out of spite.
Standing tickets are on sale now!
Unless of course this Chinese sun works.
Bugger!

its actually only 5 billion more years not 5 hundred billion
sorry im a bearer of bad news
We just have to move to uranus and warm up the place and make it a sea planet once again and create colonys of domes in the sea
Who knows. Maybe that would work in the future. Earth II. Hmm....

Earth II? Try "Earth VII"!

Earth II? Try "Earth VII"!
Sequels suck, most of the time.

Uranus? oh come on the human race could never live there - the whole time it'd be "heh i'm on uranus!" and nothing would ever get done.
Now the idea of sticking the fake sun, the earth, and the moon inside a big sphere and sending us off on a voyage through the universe is a bloody good one - not sure it could work but hell it sounds cool.
Earth II?
That movie sucked.
Well, I believe we'll all be boiled/drowned before that:
1. Global warming reaches its maximum point.
2. Most of polar ice melts. Ocean swells.
3. Most shore cities are destroyed. (In New Orleans' case, again...)
4. Extreme heat causes water to boil.
5. Animals in ocean are hot-tubbed to death.
6. Water evaporates, and cools the earth somewhat, enough for ice to form nautrally again.
7. But, all the water that was in the ice is now near the equator.
8. Polar icecaps are too damn small.
9. Human idiocy causes global warming to reach its maximum point again.
(Rinse and repeat until all icecaps are melted and almost all of humanity is wiped out.)

It had its moments, Earth III was good to start with, but the ending was crap, I mean talk about Deus Ex Machina...
Only five billion years left?
OH GOD NO.
This all reminds me of the beginning of 'Part Troll'. 'And luckily, he had an overhead projector with him...'
