View Full Version : Megaman: Debug Mode
Hey guys, whats up. :g-ninja: I'm a new memeber to this forum, although I have been to a lot like this. This thread is for a game I'm working on, Megaman: Debug mode. It's a 8-bit megaman game that I'm making with gamemaker. I used 8-bit so that i can increase the variety of characters. I'm planning on using bosses and players from a variety of games, then if possible make the battle mode. I'm thinking there will be about 20 characters when done. :g-Gaga: Anyway, sorry for talking a lot.
(by the way, does anyone have any megaman 8-bit sound effects?)

im just going to put up an alpha version of the game, it is an alpha so don't expect much from it. i've included the game, the two intro videos(you really dont need them so dont download them if you dont have the time) and a videoless version(so that errors wont pop up from you having no videos)

I must admit, that's a nice REAL screenshot. Everyone else likes to think it's funny posting fakes and thinking we are all gonna waltz over and want to join their crew... Looks good though, hope to see it finished soon.

unfortunately the game will not be done anytime soon, thats why i need help. Well, nothing is needed at the moment, but sounds would definitely help.

"Recovery" damage system (similar to Capcom's 'Gotcha Force'
the recovery damage system causes you to recoil from attacks (as it should) if you are hit in the air you will keep falling backward and taking damage until you hit the floor or recover. Recovery is done simply by pressing your shoot key. A similar event will occur when hit on the floor with a 'critical hit'
When completed:

Various original moves as well as 'super moves'
Ability to play as all main characters as well as bosses
2 player mode supporting various forms of characters (Protoman:MM3, Breakman, 'Shadow', Battle and Fighters)
(think DBZ Budokai)
Hand drawn Cutscenes

Story:
The game story involves the post-Megaman and Bass events.
This includes the birth of Zero, the end of the Megaman original crew, and the birth of X. I WILL BE MAKING MY OWN INTERPRETATION DUE TO THE FACT CAPCOM HAS NOT REVEALED THESE EVENTS. :g-hmph:
The game will start with the birth of Zero and the death of Wily. It will then go onto various missions which involve playing as characters besides Megaman. Because Wily was killed (by the Maverick Zero) as he started to hatch his master plan involving way too many Robot Masters, they are unleashed and start wreaking havoc. But the dark robot Zero does more damage than all of them combined.
The story will have various sideplots and will include various destruction missions for Zero (think Venom, Ultimate Spiderman).

Destrucion levels as Zero? Mindless destruction you say? I love it.
hurrah for mindless destruction and huzzah for a co-op mode
oh right, co-op mode. i was going to make it a versus, but now that i have that idea i think i will make a two player co-op story
this is a pic from the intro cutscene for the first mission. you play as bass in his crusade to be stronger. there's also a pic from the first draft of the menu.
The cutscene doesn't look very good, sorry.

why is everything zoomed out so far
the ctscenes supposed to have a film grain grunge look(its just an intro to the mission, like the title screen on a tv show where it tells you the episode name) and everything is so small because if i made it bigger it wouldn't fit and i dont want to got through all the trouble to put it on photobucket(the game is actually fullscreen. ill try to put it in jpeg so that i can fit bigger images, kay?

ok everyone knows what debug mode is right? you code things and fix up the glitches? well,its sorta like that. i put in the the missing link to the story and patch up what was missing. also in debug mode you can do things that you usually wouldn't be able to do (like be the boss, or play through the level as bass), and then there's zero going maverick, you'll have to 'debug' him (by beating the smack out of him).
well actually the big reason involves the beginings of the game and something i called Rockman Double 0, but i'll talk about that later...

Hmm... wow that makes a lot of sense calling it Debug Mode, there's a lot in a name it seems.
This should be good, what stuff do you need help with?
well at the moment all i need are megaman classic series sound effects, midi music is easy to get, but sounds are near impossible. oh and also if you have any effects from megaman xtreme 2, that would be nice
UPDATE: Right now im working on the part where Zero meets the other characters. In prolouge(not done yet) Zero is awakened and kills Dr. Wily, then you proceed to wreak the lab as Zero and destroy a robot master. The first level is where Bass tries to get stronger, fights Protoman, and later in the level meets up with protoman again who is injured(like in megaman and bass). Protoman teleports away and Bass goes on to find a 'virus' form of Zero, who proceeds to wreak the battlefield.
Below are virus zero(he's just a recolor so don't complain) and a preview of Zero destroying stuff(the final version will have debris instead of that stupid effect) (zero smashes his sword into the ground and electric towers come on both sides and destroy the blocks)
I can hook you up with the sounds from Megaman 1-6, I have them all. PM, we'll talk.
the game's not going well right now, im having trouble with zero's programming, but i'll probably have a pre-demo release soon enough, its very glithcy though and i might end up redoing the whole gravity system

And Megajosh, I hope you know, Rockman is the better name...ANYWAYS Although this game looks suprisingly different than most fan games, I can't wait to try it

hey look im back. anyway it seems that i had didnt realize that when i put this up, anyway i think rockman is way cooler, and the logo looks cooler too. anyway here's my cheap reason for that, its ,uh, untranslated at the moment...
anyway the game is still glitchy as hell and everything is crap. i need to redo the gravity system and do it the professional way but i have no inspiration and will probably start working on it again when i get a scanner and can draw and scan and color and whatever and can make the art for the game and cutscences speaking of which i have the art for bass and megaman sketched out and the style set and this really big run-on has come to an end!
EDIT: I just remembered. I'm working on an 8-bit mini-game till i can get i scanner. "Eddie's Rush Delivery". Maybe i can get a finished game on this site. By the way, how do you keep a health bar in one place on the screen in gamemaker?

For some reason I could not log back into my HIRED_gun account. This game is officially dead. All of the work was wiped off my computer and there is no back up. Too bad.
Because Ace deletes accounts if they haven't logged in over a year.
